Express-News

Spurs forward guard DerMarr Johnson has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to officials at the city's magistrate and detention center.

Johnson, 28, posted $1,000 bond and was released this morning.

"I just had a few cups of wine," Johnson said as he stepped into an SUV with tinted windows outside the detention center.

Johnson, an unrestricted free agent with the Spurs, said he did not think he was intoxicated at the time of his arrest but expected the charge to affect his position with the team.

A few cups of wine may be why this guy has never reached his potential.

I can't believe he is even defending himself - "few cups of wine."

Great, now Pop is more in love with Finley then ever before. Unless DeMarr was drinking A to Z wine, he's probably gone.

I never thought DerMarr was anything special to start with... good thing he gave us an excuse to kick him out

You think?!? Come on man, you make enough money that paying for a cab shouldnt be an issue.

We didn't want him to clique up with JR Smith anyway if we went after him. I think DJ was pretty much gone, regardless. On a team that desperately needed some youth and shooting on the perimeter, he couldn't even get off IR in the playoffs.

Pop might have turned a blind eye to the DWI, but "cups of wine"? NO way, he's gone! :lol

"Cups of wine" is a classic line.

No sh!t! These guys in the NBA can make lots of money, but it sure doesn't buy them an ounce of class and minimal sophistication.

So much for my "Free DeMarr" campaign.

The only way he comes back now is if he can convince Pop he wasn't drinking anything under $5,000 a bottle.

well hopefully he called RC or Pop to tell them he was arrested before they could read it in the papers. Or at least be a man and tell them he did it and is responsible for his actions. i'm sure they would like that.

Oh well, he wasn't the only one putting back a few after how this postseason ended.

Nah, DWI's are rather serious in my book. He should be able to afford a cab.

I wonder if this is from Friday night, when I saw him putting it back at Kona Grill with Ian Mahinmi (I know it was DerMarr but not 100% sure it was Mahinimi). I was near him at the bar for about 20 minutes before leaving and the guy had put down two martinis already.

That might be true - if he had been arrested by Joey Crawford.

A DWI might make him more attractive to the rest of the league. good move, DeMarr!

Pop has a way of signing players at the end of the season just to rest his starters and to take a brief look at them. DeMarr has always been one of those players. I don't think he was or ever will be a serious thought in SA.
