6'11? Hows he gonna play the 3 ?

A very Good player IMO
the spurs won't get him like batum expect if they move up
We don't talk about him cause we know he'll be gone when we pick but will be the perfect fit ( long 3 , versatile , can rebound , block shots , can shoot the 3 .....)

He's 6'9, and he's a very fluid athlete. He's a prototypical SF.

Curious minds want to know why the Spurs, picking at the tail end of the first round, are interested in Syracuse forward Donte Greene, a projected mid-first round pick? Racine Journal-Times

I just read it
Greene for me is probably the best option in this draft for sa
long 3 can do a lot of things on the court
the spurs will have to move up if they really want this guy

Very interesting. In the same article, they said that Warriors (pick 14) and Wizards (pick 18) are looking to trade their pick. :stirpot:

Why wouldn't the spurs be interested in getting oneof the best SF's in the draft...But wanting and actually getting are two totally different things.

Why is a Racine newspaper talking about this?

He measured more like 6'9" in predraft measurements with a 9' standing reach and 6'10" wingspan (which is considered not that long).

Because he IS exactly what the Spurs need at the 3. Hopefully they are working on a trade to make it happen!

Dude, not that long? He had the 2nd highest standing reach of all SFs measured. Standing reach is the number that scouts are paying attention to now. Wingspan and height can be misleading, especially if the player has a long neck.

Don't complain to me -- DX lists it as an issue, although they like him. He simply doesn't have the tentacles some players have.

Yeah I saw that too and didnt get it. Im guessing the scouting report was written before the official measurements.

I wouldn't consider his arms to be stubby, exactly. Beyond that I don't really care: short and normal-armed players can be good, too.

I don't see how we can move up; I don't think we have anything to offer outside of the big 3 and Ian... Maybe Pop and RC have something up their sleeve.

Maybe the goodwill of Nelly and an abiding hatred of the Lakers?

Splitter + Cash + Misc Add On + Portland, Nuggets, or Suns = Not likely but possible
I haven’t bought into the "Splitter pick has no value” crowd yet. We are talking about a guy who in two years will/may (depending on who you talk to) join the NBA. What type of pick would he be in two years, top 5 maybe? So why wouldn’t a team (in the 13-20 range) that is in salary cap hell, or has too many young guns, or doesn’t currently have a clear need, make a trade for a future prospect with a high ceiling?

The Spurs have been quieter than normal during this year's draft process. Either RC is busy filling his new role as the Coyote's ringleader and doesn't have time ... or perhaps there is CIA activity going on. Pop being in town and granting an interview is weird, too.
Hmm . . .

They probably have metal detecting wands going at ATT and the practice facility right now.
Its CIA level orange right now.

Can the Spurs package the trade exception with cash to move up or is the exception not tradable unless it involves a player. Not very knowledgeable about the rules but can the Spurs use the exception to pick up a bad contract to sweeten a trade, even as a sid agreement before or after the draft?

They can only trade the exception by taking back a contract.

He would counter the Lakers long, athletic front-line of Bynum (7'0) at center, Pau (7'0) at power-forward and Odom (6'10) at small-forward.
The Spurs could then have Oberto (6'10) at center, Duncan (6'11) at power-forward and Greene (6'9).

Well, if they were going with a 'Greene' frontline then replace Oberto with Mahinmi (6'11") next to TD.

:tu
That is more like it! Much better than any line up with Oberto in it.
Now take that and add JR Smith or Kelenna Azubuike from FA and we are back! :lobt:

Starters
1 Parker
2 Smith
3 Bowen
4 Duncan
5 Thomas
Bench
1 Vaughn
2 Ginobili
2 Barry
2/3 Udoka
4 Bonner
4 Mahinmi
5 Oberto
IR
1 - point guard picked at #45 or free agency
3 Greene
4/5 - project big using LLE
The one problem with most of the SpursTalk.com wheeling and dealing is that the roster is fairly set as it is, assuming Barry and Vaughn exercise their options to return.

I agree that whoever is picked up FA will probably see PT ahead a rookie...However, I would easily rather have greene on the 12 man roster rather than Bonner due to multiple positions he would be able to play.

Im going to have to disagree, I dont see the Spurs trading down in the 10-20 range to grab a player to put on the IR. That just dont make sense...

This man is a terrible defender. He's a streaky shooter that's all. He has very poor shot selection with no heart what so ever. He's afraid to go inside on a consistent basis with his height. This is a huge no.
Then Barry or Udoka will have to leave.
I agree, someone is going to have to go if the Spurs bring in a top tier long 3. Im guessing it would be Udoka.

Green seems like he could be slipping. He went at 25 in Ford's latest mock.
A long small forward who can hit threes? Sounds like a player the Spurs could want. At 26, I think he'd be a very good pick ... even though he probably needs some time in Austin to reel in his wildness.
And the Spurs have already worked him out. Hmmm . . .

Would the Spurs go with two IR players in Austin next season? As long as they trust that Mahinmi doesn't need anymore Austin time, I don't see why not. It'd probably justify the expenses of the Toros when the Spurs report to Holt.

That would be terrific. Greene slipping was unexpected, but a number of other guys are rushing into the late-lottery or just past. At 26 Greene has a lot of value. A lot.

I don't know. I think if they trade for another 1st rounder they'll use it on a big.
Wow this guy is tearing it up in Summer League. Everyone keeps talking about CDR, Chalmers, and Arthur, but he may be the guy we passed on that ends up having the most game.

Aint this about a blimp, now in the other thread texas triple threat i made a comment about greens 40pt game and was said to be over excited and wetting myself. I be damn spurs fans are something else. Ive noticed if a player is going or they think will end up a spur they have so much good things to say about that player but let a team like rockets get him. He will be a bust, he wont do as well in the league, and any other reason why they wont do well. Same with scola before rockets got him spurs fans were so high on the guy as soon as rockets got him spurs fans tried in every way to cut him down.:bang

I am guilty of trying to downplay Scola because I thought he'd never make the transition to the NBA, but you definitely got something special in Greene, I'm not denying that. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a main rotation player for you guys this season.

I agree with you, it may only be SL, but I still think the Rockets got a steal here. It was funny on draft day when everyone was blowing up about not drafting CDR, Chalmers, or Arthur, I was like WTF, what about Greene, thats who you should be bitching about. Size wise the guy is a perfect NBA long 3 and he slipped from about the 15 projected pick to the 28 pick.

Yes, he was drafted with the # 28 pick. He was projected to get drafted as high as 15 but dropped on draft day.
He is currently leading Summer League with 40pts and a 60% FG%. Not to bad for a number 28 pick.
