The Spurs are also trying to move up into the mid-first round for a shot at Robin Lopez.

Given Spurs record to do the exact opposite of Spurs' fans guesses, I can see them drafting a big while everybody was expecting for a perimeter player.

True. Thomas is expected by all to re-sign, but that's not done yet. Even if he does, he'll likely not be signed past the 2009-10 season. Oberto's deal also ends then. So in two years the Spurs will have some room and a need in their bigman rotation. Also add in the fact that the Spurs do not have a 1st round pick next year. And that this draft seems fairly loaded in the first round with bigmen talent.

Robin Lopez is really the only big that could be available in the second half of the first round that could come in and help right away. Perhaps even start. I liked him as the Spurs pick at 26 earlier in the process before his stock started to rise.

Lopez and CDR wouldn't be a bad haul out of this draft, if they are prepared to bring 3 rookies in next season. Well, someone would probably end up in Austin. Maybe they'd dump Bonner then.

Lopez is only 20 years old. Good size and athleticism for a big. The question is how far would the Spurs have to move up?

Supposedly R. Lopez has been invited to the green room, which means he'll probably be a top 15 pick. I've heard him as high as 10. The place to nab him would probably be somewhere like 16 ... or 19 if he begins to slip.

Portland at #13 may be available. Then Washington at #18.

I could live with him @ 26. Trading up for him would make me vomit.

Hibbert?

Hibbert?Hibbert and Duncan would likely be too immobile of a frontline. That said, Hibbert is in a very similar situation to Splitter last year. Hibbert would have gone much higher if he entered the draft at any point in the last few years. Perhaps the Spurs go with the boring pick and bring in Hibbert and hope he can eventually turn into a Rasho type player.

Well, he might have received a promise from a lottery team. Or the NBA simply wants to promote the twins as they both go in the 1st round.

Maybe the NBA is just being nice, and feels that having only one twin in the green room would be awkward... I haven't seen any mocks that have Robin going in the top 15-- have you?

Ford saying the Spurs are interested in him makes me think that the Spurs want no part of him.

With Pop involved very much in the goings on this summer, its making for a bitch of trying to figure out wich way they are gonna go.

I really think Spurs are trying to move up.
When you try to move up, you can't do it with discretion. You had to contact a lot of teams to see if they are interested in trading down. You also had to tell agents that you try to move up if you want to work out players that are projected to be gone at your initial pick.

Rumors about Spurs trading up are likely true and should come from other NBA teams and/or some agents. I also think only Spurs really know what player or players motivate them enough to try to move up.

is robin the good lopez or the bad lopez

He's the hustle player that's defense-first. Brook is the guy that'll go higher because he has the offensive skills to succeed in the NBA....plus he's got good measurables.

If there were a few more Lopez brothers maybe somebody really good would slip to 26. :)
