Rockets' Sura has back surgery

9/21/2004

HOUSTON (Ticker) - Houston Rockets guard Bob Sura had surgery Tuesday to repair a herniated disk in his lower back and will be out at least two months, the team announced.

Sura suffered the injury during an offseason workout September 1. The successful corrective procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins of the Los Angeles Spine Surgery Institute.

Sura's rehabilitation is expected to last at least eight weeks. The Rockets begin training camp October 5. The 2004-05 NBA season begins November 2.

The Rockets signed Sura as a free agent August 9. Entering his 10th season, he is expected to play at both backcourt positions.

Sura, 31, spent last season with Detroit and Atlanta. The 6-4 combo guard started 18 of 27 games for Atlanta, averaging 14.7 points, 5.3 assists and 8.3 rebounds

Bad news for the Rockets. Wasn't he going to be the starting point guard?

Sura was supposed to back up Mcgrady. I think the PG for Rockets was between Ward, Lue, and some rookie.

Blake Undergoes Surgery
Second-year guard expected to miss 10-12 weeks
September 22, 2004

Washington Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced today that guard Steve Blake underwent successful surgery to remove a chipped bone from his right ankle. The surgery was conducted by Dr. Mark Myerson of Mercy Hospital in Baltimore.

Blake, who sustained the injury during a pickup basketball game at his summer camp, is expected to miss 10-12 weeks.

“It is an uncommon injury, but we expect Steve to make a full recovery,” Grunfeld said. “Steve is a very diligent worker. I know he is anxious to begin rehabilitation and get back to action with his teammates as soon as possible.”

In his rookie campaign with the Wizards last season, Blake played in 75 games with 14 starts. He averaged 5.9 points and 2.8 assists per game.

Blake entered the league as a second round pick (38th overall) of the Wizards in the 2003 NBA Draft. He finished his decorated four-year career at Maryland as the school’s all-time leader in assists (972) and games played (136).
