I'm boycotting the NBA Finals. The NBA is all about money, so if we all turn off our TVs the NBA might lose money. This Finals is a sham and a scam. Who's with me?

I'll say yay, but it's not like it will make a damn bit of difference. I'll probably catch a couple of games though, until I see disgusting HCA calls in favor of Kobe in game 3.

You mean the shit that was good enough to wipe the floor with your world champs in only five short games? That shit?

I vote yay because I don't watch the Finals unless the Spurs play or unless there is a team that I really want to win (2004 Pistons over Lakers)

I didn't call the Lakers shit, nor did I call the Celtics shit. I'm talking about the general hype surrounding the Finals. It seems like overhyped matchups are always due for disappointments.

Great, solid take btw.

This hype associated with the Lakers and Celtics for this finals matchup is no way in shape or form like the 80's Celtics/Lakers rivarly, it can't even hold it's jock strap.

So true... everyone at my job who knew shit about basketball the entire season seems to be stoked about this....

As for myself I wont be watching... could care less who wins.

What? What is the point? That 10 people from SpursTalk not watching the finals is going to make a difference?

There are going to be hundreds of thousands of girls who just realized the Lakers played again watching, on top of all of NE.

This finals is a dream come true (or a plan that was actualized) for the league, and a SpursTalk boycott is not going to matter.

I don't generally watch basketball after the Spurs' season is over. Especially if it's the Lakers in the Finals.

Why would I want to watch that?

Nah, I watch the Finals every year regardless of who is playing

Supergirl

It's all about marketing. If millions of people actually got together in an organized fashion and turned off their television, all the advertising money poured down the Lakers, um, the NBA's throats would be wasted. And THAT would have an impact on the NBA.

But you're right - if it's only 10 people from Spurstalk who boycott, it won't have an impact. And judging by the way the the voting seems to be going, people are just sheep who will watch whatever our televisions give us, regardless of whether it has any meaning or substance. Welcome to America.

So because people want to watch 2 very good basketball teams play each other, they are sheep? What a stupid statement. I agree that a lot of people watch dumb shows, but as a basketball fan I am very excited to watch the nba finals, even though the hornets are not in it. If you were a basketball fan, you would feel the same way.

Your cable company can track it, but that is not how Nielsen ratings are measured. Nielsen ratings are the standard currency for TV ad revenue. So unless you have a diary or a people meter, what you watch or don't watch doesn't matter.

I won't watch the games in full, but I'll probably flip over them for a few minutes now and then. In the battle of Collusion West vs Collusion East, I'll take Collusion East because of Doc Rivers, his past with the Spurs, and his role of keeping the Spurs focused for the '99 title.

If he could keep them focused so that they could win the title three years after he left, I'm not sure if that speaks well or ill of his prospects in the finals.

I would believe the former would be more accurate yea? I think my viewing habits would be a little bit different if I knew Nielsen was looking into everything I am watching.

It wouldn't be an accurate sample of the whole market/country because only a certain percentage have digital cable.

Why would Spurs fans boycott the Spurs next year as well, instead of another (seemingly?) staged Finals? Of course Spurs fans would watch until the Spurs won, or got eliminated. Then, presumably, they would boycott the Finals if suspicions arose regarding the legitimacy of the league.

I'll watch the Finals only to root for the Celtics. It would be nice to see KG and Ray Allen win something before they retire. Plus, I don't want to see Kobe, Phil or that a-hole Vucijac win anything...and I hope James Posey throws in a classless 3 at the end of the last blowout game for good measure...

I don't know about that. If the Celtics lose, the management may blow up the team - their window is rapidly closing considering Ainge traded their future by dealing Al Jefferson. Then we wouldn't have to worry about the Celtics as contenders anymore. The whole thing is a lose-lose situation. One team has to win. But I guess that means it's a win-win situation too, right?

Even at its most basic level, it comes down to a matter of principle. Some people won't be watching because they question the league's ethics. Lakers fans...do know about ethics, right?

I'm not going to boycott.

If I don't have something better to do with my time than watch TV, and there's nothing better on some other channel, then I'll watch the Finals. I'm not going to make a point of watching, and don't much care who wins (prefer Celts, but whatever...) but I'm not going to boycott. Some of the games might be exciting.
