President Bush says the government should "call to account" broadcasters who air obscene words or pictures, though parents are still "the first line of defense."

He says, "They put an off button on the TV for a reason."

During a C-SPAN interview, the president responded to questions about recent fines for on-air indecency, and proposals by lawmakers to increase the penalties.

Bush says he doesn't favor censorship, but does think government should set limits. He says the outgoing chairman of the Federal Communications Commission struck a good balance.

Michael Powell announced last week he'll be leaving in March. Meantime, several lawmakers have said they'll soon introduce measures sharply raising maximum fines for indecency.

Last year, the FCC received more than one million complaints, though most involved the exposure of singer Janet Jackson's breast during the Super Bowl half-time show.

I say it all the time.

My guess is a state-sanctioned, lethal injection murder on T.V. would be OK with Yoni as long as people had their remotes near-by just in case reality TV got to, well, real.

I know, lets go to a country that denies women the right to choose the destiny of their own bodies and catch the gore that is, illegal abortions.
