I don't think Boston will resign him and he could be had for cheap. I also think it's difficult to judge his play this season because he's been recovery from a knee injury. Prior to his knee injury he showed signs of really coming on. Maybe he regains some of that approaching next season.

Not my first choice by any stretch, but I wouldn't cry in my beer if the Spurs signed him.

One move was made last night when the franchise failed to make Tony Allen a qualifying offer, thus making the guard an unrestricted free agent, according to his agent, Mike Higgins.

The arrival of draft picks J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker definitely hurt Allen's chances to return to Boston.

"Obviously they had some tough decisions to make," Higgins said late last night. "With the number they're at [player wise] they couldn't sign everybody. For the past month, he knew they were either going to make him an offer or they weren't. He understood."

The 6-foot-4-inch, 213-pound Allen averaged 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds last season after missing most of the previous season following left knee surgery.

In terms of fall back options, I would be happy with Tony Allen. His defense is really solid. 2.5, no more, though. This, of course, if Smith, Childress, Azubuike and Siskauskas all spurn the MLE, which I'm sure we'll offer one of them.

Well, it is kinda of like that. Too bad, but it is what it is.

What will happen is that the Spurs will offer the full MLE to someone, and if they don't get him all other full MLE options, save possibly Siskauskas, will have already committed, so they'll have to sort through players like Allen. Although, it looks like the market is very cold on Azubuike, so he could be the top fall back option. Given Baron Davis' opt out, Azubuike looks free for the taking. GS is not in a position where they can match. Hope for a protracted negotiations with Davis, Ellis, and Biedrins.
