Does anybody watch this? It sounds kick-ass! I bet MMA fighters are really deep, complex people! I'm sure there's a lot of Kerouac readers in that circle!

LOL, yeah Dana tried to actually spin that and say Chuck was sick and deprived of sleep. He was deprived of sleep obviously because he had been out partying all night long and probably went straight to this appearance that morning. He was completely smashed.

OK MMA fans, answer me this. Is there anyone looking into uniting all the different brands of MMA? It just seems seems like the sport is scrambled all over the place. I don't know how many different organizations are out there, but wouldn't it be better for the sport if they all merged? I'm sure it's a money and ownership issue. It just has a wrestling kinda feel. Like anyone w/ enough money could just recruit a bunch of guys and start their own MMA company. Major sports don't work that way.

As a non MMA fan, how the hell am I to know Elite is not the same as UFC who's not tha same as blah blah blah........

Are the rules even the same between each group?

Would you MMA fans want this to happen? Or is there some benefit to the current setup?

Well the ufc has maybe imo roughly about 85-90% of the top fighters in the world. I dont mind the small orgs. the ufc needs them, because it's where people start out to get the ufc to look at them. kind of like college football and the NFL. Because you cant start your career at the top and thats where the small orgs are necessary. I dont think the ufc will ever buy everyone out and dana probably doesnt want to. and the ufc will probably never be popular in japan, because the jap leagues have most top jap fighters locked up.

A better alternative for the UFC is to just sign their fighters and let the leagues go on.

Only people who are looking to make a profit.

It just seems seems like the sport is scrambled all over the place.

Thats because it is. This sport is still very much growing and reshaping..how often does a new sport emerge that is popular? Sports is big business .. every time a league expands individual business men and groups are tripping over themselves to get in....same thing happens when its a simple team sale...and everyone wants into sports.

It has completely reformed itself from the old "no rules" days. It takes time.

Like anyone w/ enough money could just recruit a bunch of guys and start their own MMA company.

Same with any sport...anyone can try and succeed or fail to various degrees. Look at the AFL, NFC, NFL, XFL, USFL, CFL, Arena League 1 & 2. There is even some talk of another league right now but I can't recall the name.

Major sports don't work that way..

See above.

But as of now MMA is not a major sport and who knows if it ever will be....but this thing is growing rapidly. Keep in mind nobody would have said NASCAR would be one either 10 years ago. Also, nor is MMA like any other sport. Who knows what it is capable of.

As for new leagues...its just more frequent in MMA at this very moment since the sport is still so new and growing. There was barely any movement like this 2 years ago and all of these leagues popping up is a very new thing. Throwing money at it is the biggest way to fail just like taking a crappy team and going crazy in free agency.

As a non MMA fan, how the hell am I to know Elite is not the same as UFC who's not tha same as blah blah blah........

The UFC brand is easy to spot since their logo is everywhere.

Are the rules even the same between each group?

For the most part. The key unique rule is elbows to a downed opponent. UFC has it, most do not. I suspect this rule will change soon.

Would you MMA fans want this to happen? Or is there some benefit to the current setup?

Merging;

The UFC has already bought some of its biggest competitors in the past, WFA, WEC and PRIDE.

As for the rest...let the fans dictate who stays by purchasing PPV's and merchandise. Everyone is trying to cash into MMA so fast and we will be seeing a lot of failures over time until people figure out how to do it right.

Which they will.

Competition is good and healthy as the sport grows but so far nobody can even come remotely close to touching the UFC. Which is one reason I am now so highly critical of EliteXC because they were on the right track before they decided to focus their entire league on Kimbo Slice.

I'll ask an mma (kind of) question for anybody who knows the story. A couple of days ago I was watching the Fight Science: MMA special on NatGeo. As anybody who watched it knows, it featured Dean Lister, and this got me to thinking; a couple of years ago I heard Ryan Bennett mention what a nice guy Dean is and how his ex-wife was a total b*tch and that she had really screwed him over. I'm thinking either Evan or Leonard would know the story that I don't behind that statement.

I went to high school with Dean Lister, while I haven't talked to him in years and don't follow mma (i've actually never seen him fight) I can tell you he's a real nice and cool guy. Real good guy, he was probably too nice and she took advantage of him. I hadn't heard of this, but that sucks. If you're a fan of his then :tu

His wife was some model. He wasn't training and wasn't really fighting. He had said because of her he lost his will to fight. Don't think there's too much to the story. He still looked like crap after the divorce.

Thanx for the video, not bad at all. Those long ass arms come in handy in grappling. :lol :lol His technique is good, looks like he can do some serious damage.
