You don't think Mike D is calling up this series as it would help his call. Really, if you watched that series, it had a lot to do with Sac choking and missing their foul shots rather than the refs letting it go 7 games.

I concede the Kings choked it away... but they should have not even played in game 7.

The problem is, FTAs arent a great way to rate officiating in a series - unless those FTAs get you your final 16 out of 18 points. Truly ridiculous officials blow that many whistles in the fourth quarter of an elimination game of the WCF.

Is this what kind of thread this board must degenerate to? If what Donaghy says is true, there is probably an asterisk on every trophy going back years. Particualarly, any game Donaghy himself reffed. Also, you can start adding to the list of suspects any ref he directly or indirectly implicates. You know which ones I mean. If anyone loses here, it's all of us fans. We are the ones who pay the salaries in the long run.

Solution is simple. Get rid of Stern and crack down. If change doesn't come, there will always be doubt and bitterness and the league will fail. There needs to be a time to accept what has happened and move on. Before it's too late, of course.

He's an idiotic bandwagon fan. Now that his Mavericks lost he jumped ship to the Celtics.

Thanks, anyone that knows me here should be aware that I keep a serious tone to my posts. One of the reasons I stopped posting at message boards about basketball for a few years was the Kobe rape accusations in 2003. Every single thread at AOL was inundated with 12-15 year olds calling Mr. Bryant every name in the book. They had to make a whole new Rape forum to try to weed out the trash. So, it makes it hard to find a good read when there is so much trash talking going on. I don't go to any Laker board, I like this one. The good fans here are pretty sharp, and I enjoy what they have to say. I am not going to change this place on my own. However, it is now getting hard to find a good thread here.

If it makes people feel better, I see there is reason to believe in conspiracies, and yeah, Lakers probably benefited in game 6 WCF in 2002, and probably other times as well. At the same time, they have probably been on the wrong side of fixes as well. Is this 2008 finals series fixed? Lord, I hope not. Basketball will be destroyed if that comes out. That affects every team, and every fan. Be careful of what you wish for, you may get more than you bargained for.

"Game 6 between the Kings and Lakers in 2002, however, tugged at the league's credibility. Three terrific veteran officials -- Bob Delaney, Dick Bavetta and Ted Bernhardt -- called what I still consider the single worst-officiated game in the 28 years I've been covering professional basketball. It was egregiously, embarrassingly bad for the league and for the Kings. It's the only time, I think, I've ever written an entire column about refereeing for the purpose of being critical."

Honestly I feel like the 99 championship was the only championship that might not deserve and asterick. Everything at least after 02 until the present could have been influenced, I really believe Stern might have maybe not necessarily helped, but allowed San Antonio to win those championships as sort of a decoy. No one would suspect that the NBA would want the small market, boring, blah blah Spurs to win, making people less likely to believe that there is any conspiracy. Then in the even years he could help dictate outcomes to sell more tickets and make money.

Question:

How have these allegations effected the ratings of the Finals?

Answer: They haven't.

Like steroids in baseball, I don't think the majority of fans will stop watching these games based on some allegations.

If anything, it actually makes the game more exciting: Is that ref corrupt? Was that a valid call? Will the "super observers" catch that one?

I think Refs are human. They make mistakes. They are influenced by superstars (duh), home crowds, and what the coaches are saying to them.

That doesn't make them corrupt, but it doesn't excuse Stern for not doing more to punish bad refs and reward the good ones.

Question:

How have these allegations effected the ratings of the Finals?

Answer: They haven't.

While I don't believe we would see the ratings be cut in half from one Finals game to the next based upon these latest allegations, I very much believe the fact that Lakers-Celtics, the most glamorous possible NBA Finals matchup, can't even crack a 10 rating, is due in some part to the cumulative effect of fan distrust in the legitimacy of the NBA over the past several years.

I just rewatched most of that entire series over the past few days.

Anyone who doesn't think that series was rigged to go 7 games is an idiot. Games 2,5, and 6 were decided on extremely dubious calls......Game 6 being the worst by far. With these new allegations there is no doubt in my mind that this series was fixed to go 7 games from the get-go.
