North Carolina or California?

I plan on going out of the state of Texas someone in July or August and these are the two states I want to visit the most. Let me explain to you why.

1.) California: I really want to visit Los Angeles and all the cities around it (Hollywood,etc). I just want to experience the atmosphere person for myself.

2.)North Carolina: That state looks pretty badass. The countryside looks fucking beautiful, the small towns seem chilled out and laid back, the beaches look nice, etc etc. Wilmington and other cities catch my interest.

I do plan on saying that I visited both in time but for now I can only choose one. For people who have been to BOTH or at least one of these areas, what would do you think about them?

I live in So Cal, have visited South Carolina (brother lives there) but not North Carolina. I guess it's kinda like asking if you like hot or cold, the two are polar opposites so it really comes down to what do you want to do?

The only part of Southern Cali I like is San Diego. LA is dirty, frenetic and no matter what you just feel like a tourist. San Diego and the coastal area to the north- Del Mar in particular- are relaxed and enjoyable.

I've only been to Charlotte and NC for one day and night, but I thought it sucked balls. Greensborough is probably pretty cool though.

Having lived in the South, and visited California, I say go to NC.

Georgia >South Carolina >North Carolina >California; and I ain't just whistling Dixie ;)

California by a mile... especially in July or August.

1. Huntington Beach (SW of LA) has the best waves in the country (discounting Hawaii) and hot latin chicks... Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beaches are awesome places to chill. Malibu waves kick ass too (though the water is polluted there).
2. Joshua Tree, Mt. San Gorgonio, and Mt. San Jacinto are amazing places to hike and get away from civilization, and are easy day trips from LA. The tram on San Jacinto that goes up to 8000 ft or so also makes it the easiest ~11,000 foot mountain there is to climb.
3. San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Rosarito are all easy day trips from LA.
4. Los Angeles has three jaw-dropping drives: Angeles Crest Highway (through the mountains), PCH (along the Pacific), and Mulholland Drive (through the hills).
5. Los Angeles average high temp in July/August = 85 degrees or so
6. Big Sur, San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, and Las Vegas are only a few hours away by car.

Hollywood sucks ass though. If that's the big reason you want to go to Cali, you're going to be really disappointed when you go on Hollywood Blvd. and see a bunch of homeless schizophrenics and wide-eyed tourists.

Having grown up in LA, I agree with baseline -- California will provide a ton of options for entertainment, but Hollywood's really not one of them. If you're looking specifically for an urban/city So Cal experience, the museums in the Wilshire/Miracle Mile area are fantastic (LACMA, MoCA, Tempo Contempo, Peterson Automotive Museum). There's a lot of stuff to look at in the well known Hollywood areas (Sunset Blvd., Hollywood Blvd., Mann's Chinese Theater, the Hollywood Hills, etc.) and I would definitely not discourage you from checking it out if you're curious, but don't expect it to take up more than a few hours.

California. If you go to L.A., drive along the coast (I think it's PCH?) up to Santa Barbara. The drive is extremely scenic and Santa Barbara is a lot nicer/prettier than L.A. IMO.

The Getty and the Getty Villa are spectacular museums also (and are both free, though the Villa requires a reservation).

My father is from N. Carolina......and Ive been to LA too many times to mention. LA is nice to visit.....good food, many places to go.....nice drives......very busy and crowded as well.

Carolina has alot of history though.......you can see many historical buildings and areas. The scenery is also very beautiful......50-100ft. pine trees. Nags Head is a wonderful place to go if you like the beach or fishing. They have piers that go 1/2mi. into the ocean.

Its really up to you.......I like visiting LA, but there is noway in HELL I would live there.

Personally, I'd go to Nothern California. You have the Redwood Forrest, small town atmosphere, and the incredibile coastline view.

It's definitely worth your time.

Really, if you want to go to LA, while also visiting an area with the characteristic you described about North Carolina, then I'd go to California. However, I wouldn't spend my entire time around southern California.

I have worked in Hollywood for years...You have to like freaks, crowds & tourists to enjoy the town….Where else can you see Trekies heckle the Star Wars Geeks for waiting in line at the wrong theater for opening premiers?

The Grove, Farmers Market, Melrose Ave, Walk of Stars, Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles are points of interest...

I have lived in both States for over four years each...both have different advantages.

There is so much to do in California that it's overwhelming. From the National Parks to the cities. It's a great place to spend a lot of money.

I wouldn't mind retiring in North Carolina. It's beautiful and the people are great.
