1. This only happens when I am watching youtube vids or a video within a website. Half the time my screen goes black.. the cpu is on but the screen just shuts off? The only way I can fix it is by manually holding down the power button and shutting it down like that, and then starting it back up again. That can't be healthy.

At first I thought there was an issue with my screen, but it's not the screen because it only happens watching videos within a website. So what's the issue there?

2. This is no big deal, but some stupid ass windows programs were disabled when windows starts cause they are useless. Now when I start windows it tells me so and so has been blocked. Okay, I fucking know they are blocked why does this tell me every time I start windows? How do I get rid of that?

Sounds like it might be a problem with your video drivers because nothing else crashes but your video card. Are you using nvidia and if so, have you tried updating your nforce drivers?

Vista? If you don't need them can you just uninstall the programs or does windows disallow that? If you are using Vista and if I were you, I'd just downgrade to good ol' XP.

I don't know what to tell you. I just spent about half an hour looking for answers and I came up empty except that this type of problem (when using a different brand of video chip than your ATI Radeon Xpress X1200) is usually related to a bios/motherboard issue; which isn't good news. Another option is that you have a broken fan and literally your video card is overheating? Does it happen when you view other types of video in WMP for example?

I stand by my original advice. Re-install Windows and run a good driver program. (Drivermagic is a good one). If that doesn't fix it, take the motherfucker into someone who actually knows what the hell they're talking about.

If you don't want to do that, cool, but I truly just spent awhile researching this issue and I don't know what else to tell you. Good luck.

As an aside- Are you really that opposed to reloading Windows? Especially since you have the pre-loaded POS copy that came with your machine? That Best Buy/Circuit City/Any Commercial retailer Vista is the worst thing you could run. I reinstall xp it as often as I can even if I am having absolutely no problems with it. Nothing better than a brand new, bare bones and clean as fuck Windows every three months.

Upgrading from Vista to XP might be a good place to start. I know I had lots of problems on Vista that I never had on XP, and the problems did not continue when I switched back.

Downgrading can be an asspain since vendors don't always provide XP drivers for all their Vista machines. I would try reinstalling Adobe Flash Player and maybe Java since YouTube is killing your machine. Also, what browser are you using? See if the same thing happens in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. If it happens in all three, that could be a video driver issue.

Well I know my fan isn't broke. Overheating may be an issue. I've been told Toshiba's are good at that.

Hmm turns out this happens watching any video. On WMP, YouTube, whatever. So I think it's the video card.

This laptop came preloaded with Vista (home basic-- i know don't lecture me lmao) and I updated it with SP1, and it runs smooth and niice. I don't understand everyone elses issues, I've never had a problem with Vista. However I don't do much on here other than surf, download music and such.

XP was fine, but I like Vista better. I guess cause it doesn't give me any problems.

But yeah it seems to do this watching any video really.

mouse - Check above reply.

J.T. - Again I just have never had issues with Vista. Again, probably because I don't do very much other than waste time here and DL music. But yeah I don't see a need yet to downgrade, or.. upgrade as you call it haha.

Chump - I've learned since your reply that it does this watching any video. So I don't think I need to reinstall Java or anything.

I run Firefox btw, but as I've said I believe now it's just a problem with the video card. That I have no idea to fix or whatever.

When my friend gets off work he's supposed to call me. Dude is a whiz on computers. More so than anyone I have ever known. Maybe he'll know what's up!

hey try doing this

plug in a monitor to the laptop, see if anything appears on the monitor...if it appears, then its clearly not the drivers or the video card hardware....could be the lcd screen....
