Pacers are idiots. If they had done this trade a year or so ago when it was pretty obvious, they could have gotten back a lot more for O'Neal.

Raptors actually make out really well in this. They'll have a nice frontline now with Bosh/ONeal/Bargniani.

Toronto got screwed. On the plus side, we'll get to see ploto trash the Raptors.

They may be idiots for not doing it sooner, but at this is point they robbed the Raptors. :lol

Pacers got the better deal. Looks like they won't be drafting D.J. Augustin afterall. If they do, you've got a Hook 'em backcourt!

ploto stopped posting when Rasho lost his starting spot in the playoffs -- again.

LJ called Rasho's picking up his option and I called his being traded shortly thereafter.

Hah, they could have gotten Bynum and possibly LO for him a year ago, thanks larry.:lol

I don't think that is the reason she stopped posting - i mean we're talking about ploto - master of "spin anything into something positive about rasho".

As for the the trade: I think pacers got the better end of the deal here, but it all depends on what other moves both of the teams will make now.

i think LA offered Kwame,Bynum and some fillers, but indiana got greedy and wanted odom instead of Kwame, so im happy they rejected that trade.

Toronto, depending on which role player they choose to package with them (Whether it be Kapono, Humpries, or some one else) can make this a good or bad trade. They need to play Jermaine less time then he got in Indiana, until he can prove he can play big minutes and not get injured. Indiana gets a great deal out of this. They have been shopping O'Neal since i think '05 and got a PG (Ford) that way they can package Tinsley in someway to get a big man. Really it could be a win/win for both teams.

Pacers desperate to ditch O'Neal
Chris Mannix

NEW YORK -- How desperate were the Indiana Pacers to unload Jermaine O'Neal? They were willing to accept a mid-level draft pick, an expiring contract and a point guard one good fall away from retirement for him.

The Pacers have agreed to send O'Neal to Toronto in exchange for guard T.J. Ford, center Rasho Nesterovic and the 17th pick in Thursday night's draft. Because Ford's contract makes him a "base-year player," the deal cannot be completed until July 9. The trade is contingent on O'Neal, who missed 40 games last season due to a knee injury, and Ford, who has battled a chronic neck injury since college, passing physicals.

The Pacers have been actively shopping O'Neal since the start of the regular season. According to NBA front-office sources, Indiana offered O'Neal to virtually every team at the February trading deadline. The response was lukewarm, with teams being scared off by the two years and $44 million remaining on O'Neal's contract.

O'Neal, however, may just be the first domino to fall in Indiana. Sources say Indiana was willing to trade everyone but small forward Danny Granger at the deadline. "They made it clear they were willing to blow it up," said a Western Conference executive. Contrary to reports, front office sources say the Pacers have been shopping forward Mike Dunleavy -- who is owed $29.3 million over the next three seasons -- while showing some reluctance to part with center Jeff Foster, who is considered a favorite of Indiana coach Jim O'Brien.

With O'Neal out of the picture the Pacers are now in full rebuilding mode. With Ford and the remaining three years and $25 million of his contract now on board, incumbent point guard Jamaal Tinsley is expected to be moved or have the remaining three years and $21.4 million on his contract bought out. Pacers GM Larry Bird also told local reporters this week that second-year forward Shawne Williams is "on thin ice."

Ford, however, is a risk. An ultra-quick, streaky shooting point guard, Ford has the talent to be a 30-35 minute per game starter. But Ford missed 13 games with a neck injury last season, the same injury that caused him to miss all of the 2004-2005 season. There is literally the possibility his career could end at any moment.

For Toronto, acquiring O'Neal means the All-Star power forward Chris Bosh will finally have some help in the frontcourt. Despite an injury-plagued 2007-08 season, it is widely believed that O'Neal's knee problems are not an issue anymore (Pacers officials recently told reporters that O'Neal's knee was healthy) and that had O'Neal been playing for a contender, he might have been able to play late last season. While not a pure center, O'Neal averaged 19.6 points and 9.4 rebounds in 2006-07 and -- when healthy -- is still a force in the pivot. Both O'Neal (2.1 blocks per game in '07-'08) and Bosh (1.0) are intimidating presences around the rim and will form a formidable frontcourt.

The move also frees the Raptors to re-sign Jose Calderon, a restricted free agent who has made it clear that he was not interested in returning to Toronto as a backup. Calderon shared the point guard duties without complaint when Ford returned from injury last season, but his All-Star caliber play (he averaged 12.9 points and 8.9 assists in the first half of last season) proves that he is more than ready to take over the point guard duties full time. Though the loss of Jorge Garbajosa hurts (Garbajosa was a key player in Toronto's 2006-07 playoff run before playing in only seven games last season with a leg injury and eventually being bought out of his contract), with a healthy O'Neal the Raptors -- the sixth seed in the 2008 playoffs -- could be strong enough to jockey with Cleveland, Orlando, Washington and Detroit for the 2-5 spots behind Boston next season.

If Jermaine is healthy, that is very realistic. IF though is the big word. Plus the east blows outside of Boston (MAYBE Detroit pending on what moves they make). The Cavs keep building shit around Lebron. They need to land 2 stars as 2nd and 3rd options to be in an elite class. Orlando/Atlanta are up and coming teams but they arent there yet. Considering it's the east, that isnt an unrealistic situation.
