George Hill looks alot like Rajon Rondo.
Both about 6'2", long and wiry and both excellent rebounders and good athletes.
Hill has a better jump shot but Rondo was also 2 years younger when he enetered the league.
He has all the tools to be an awesome defender at the PG spot... not just a hustler and tenacious like JV
He may "look" alot like Rondo, but he doesn't play like him.
Hill will never put up 16 assists in an NBA playoff game...he's not the type. Hill is a score-first guard with the potential to be a lead guard. That's what the Spurs saw, but it's not exactly a sure thing.

The only positive I see is Pop agrees with the choice, he was a PG and he knew what's important for PG (not like Rasho), he can develop PG, his products were good so far (TP, A Daniel)!!! so hopefully he made the right choice

Have any of you even see George Hill play? Just because he went to IUPUI doesn't mean he's not good. Plus he could have gone to Florida but decided not to to stay close to his Grandpa.

"A slow 6-1 shooting guard. Just what we need."
Okay, first of all Hill is one of the fastest guards in the draft and second, height doesn't matter.

Okay, first of all Hill is one of the fastest guards in the draft and second, height doesn't matter.
The problem is that for the past 3 years he's been playing Southern Utah, Oral Roberts, North Dakota State and other second tier teams in the Summit League. I would hope that he looked good against those teams.
No one will be happier than me if he proves that he can thrive in this league.

He's pretty good, but it's not like he's "panned out" already. He's basically coming out and playing pickup style basketball...wait until Tony and Manu are back and we'll see how he contributes within the system.

thanks, man :toast
hill is a ball player, period. great instincts on the defensive end and his offense is coming into form. he'll have his ups and downs but today he showed that he has all the tools to be a solid player in this league. more importantly, i think Pop really enjoys coaching him. Pop is really taking his time to develop hill just like he did with tony. several times i saw pop and hill chatting during dead ball situations and i could swear Pop was almost like a proud father encouraging his son. with that type of trust, george will only get better. shit, hill's confidence has to be through the roof after abusing big ass YAO all game :lol:lol

yeah, its not like there have been a lot of doubters...it was like: WTF are RC doing...cant recall anyone backing him up!
I think, we should stay calm, as its still early. but after all he has shown realy nice play and looks like the best backup pg this team has seen, since speedy...whith much more upside
will be interesing, if thats it for vaughn...I liked him, as a steady player, which is husling and fighting, but I hated him, if he tried to score (allready using past :))

Looks like Pop was exactly right regarding who the best PG on the board was. In fact, outside of Derrick Rose, Hill right now can put his stats up against any rookie point guard.
Westbrook, Bayless and Augustin don't have better stats. Dragic certainly doesn't have better stats.
Let's hope Hill can keep it up so that SpursTalk will owe Pop and the scouts an apology :smokin

Question- So far how does Hill's defense compare to Mason's? Can they defend similar players? And, which one has a better chance of helping against Kobe, since Bowen and Udoka both struggled last year? If Bowen has lost more than a step, is Hill going to used to defend some of those matchups?

Hey well since Pop and RC are so much smarter than us 'internet GMs' I"m sure they'll have plenty of playing time ready for Splitter when he plays for us next year....oh wait, he isn't? Oh because he used the Spurs FO so he could get a better contract overseas? Oh OK. Well at least we have Marcus Williams from last year to be a good role player....what we don't? Oh damn. What about all those other foreign players we drafted from 2000 -2007 that had so much 'upside'? Oh they play in Europe...oh ok.
Sometimes it's ok to say that RC and Pop SUCK at something. Yes yes, they got Manu and TP right but WHAT ELSE???? Let me answer that....NOTHING. They are lucky that Timmy can carry anybody to a Championship. They should build a statue to him right now in front of the AT&T Center.
Had to QFT.

Right now, they are about equal. Hill's better man to man but Mason understands the team defense concepts better. But going forward, Hill should easily become the better defender. He has the perfect build to be a point guard stopper.
But no, they don't really guard similar players. Hill is good against the quicker point guards and has some success against the smaller shooting guards. Mason can guard the slower point guards well and he can also guard shooting guards and some small forward.
Hill is too short to guard Kobe. Mason probably can't really guard Kobe either ... but then again, Ray Allen had some success against Kobe last year in the finals and Mason is a similar build to Allen. Kobe is going to have to be guarded by Bowen again. The second option on him will probably have to be Mason since Udoka looked horrible against Kobe last year. The Spurs best chance is probably to stick Bowen on him and then keep a fresh defender such as Mason or Ginobili on him when Bowen rests. Too bad the Spurs didn't get a tall and quick player or a tall and physical player to put on Kobe . . .
To answer your final question, no Hill can't really be counted on to be a Bowen replacement. Maybe against some of the point guards Bowen usually guards such as Nash, CP3, DWill, etc. But Hill just doesn't have the size to guard shooting guards who are much bigger than players like AI and Ben Gordon.

He fractured it... tried to come back too early... reinjured it and prolonged his outing to season ending his sophmore season... he then aquired a medical red shirt which is why he was a 22 year old Junior... His foot is 100% healed... I believe when he broke it.. he tried to keep playing (tough as hell?...but shouldn't have done that lol) .. then found out it was broken.. Hill played all of that off season with out incident and played with fire his whole junior year with no loss of mobility because of the foot.. so its a completely false rumor.
