Watching everyone's reaction to this draft made me wonder what would a 2001 Spurstalk draft day thread look like. :wakeup

I was happy as hell. He was the player I wanted. I targeted him since the 2000.

Yeah - but you're one of the very few who actually research this stuff and know who the players are.

sure timvp..:p

We honestly have no clue about this George Hill guy, I mean we can hope he becomes a tony parker, but no one knows

From the numbers, he looks like a pretty well-sounded offensive player, and defensive-minded..I don't really understand the PG position though.

Dont we need someone down low to help timmy or at the 3 position?

Do you really want to see another year of Jacque Vauhgn as the backup point?

Enough with the comparisons to Tony Parker. Parker was drafted seven years ago. We haven't had a successful draft pick since!

Simple.

Who was our PG when we drafted TP?

Who is our PG when we drafted Hill?

That's why I'm pissed.

:lol

The Spurs have been looking at veterens at the back-up PG since Beno became a bust (and until the 2005 Finals, Beno was actually servicable as Tony's back-up). I think it's a good idea for the Spurs to try to go young here.

So you expect TP to play all 48 minutes all season?

TP can play havy mins a night if we need him to.

I expect our backup PG to be able to give him a breather. That means someone not having to learn on the job. Someone that can stay on the floor and not LOSE leads every time he's out there.

How fast will Pop go back to Manu at the point with a rookie PG? Pop has options, he'll use them.

Developing a backup behind a young all-star is a long process.

A. It's not clear that George Hill can play the point.

B. Even if he can, it's quite possible that Damon Stoudamire of Jacuqe Vaughn will still be better point guards.

I don't think the first round is where you go looking for backup point guards. I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs intend to play him more at the 2.

Cheer up. As we speak Goran is calling up Beno asking him what he needs to do to make big success in San Antonio.

I would have been thrilled, Parker was making waves in France well before the draft and was a very well known commodity. Hill was so great, he got a whooping SI draft grade of 0...

We would have been better of drafting Judson's best player...
