Precisely why they'd be smart to operate over the cap, instead of using cap space. They won't have a max slot, but they'll have more picks to trade in the summer. They could also keep some of their players easier.

Yeah the Irving trade isn't even official yet. It's not impossible that it'd eventually become a larger one, with one or two more teams involved. Both Nets and Mavs have other moves to make.

Presumably the same way LeBron and Irving have worked in the past. Definitely risky for Dallas, but they were going nowhere anyway after making terrible mistakes, such as refusing to re-sign Brunson at 4/55.
