I think Barlow and Wieskamp are the two-way guys this year unless Joe gets an international deal or something.

While I'd say Sochan is more agile than Diaw, I'm not sure he was more athletic. I'm pretty sure Boris could still outjump him, and his coordination for his size was still excellent.

I'm thinking Branham and Wesley might be there. I feel like I'll know more about Primo's ceiling during the summer league when he has time under him but isn't trying to fit in. I don't know if I can get a good feel of who's overall ceiling would be the highest but: Offensively: 1) Branham...

Yeah, the thinking from a lot of us at the time of signing was that he would get that second year if he showed anything at all. The only reason to cut him would've been to stretch his salary to get max cap space. That doesn't seem necessary anymore, so Collins makes more sense to keep as trade...

It does jeopardize cap space quite a bit, but I also think they were unlikely to look at big signings after their draft anyway. I'd say were in for a similar off-season as last year in terms of overall strategy. Most of the empty roster spots will get used on salary dumps who won't make it out of...

The SL has historically been my favorite part of the year. I've really hated what's happened to it after ESPN brought the broadcasting rights. It went from being a treat for nerds/hardcore fans to a casual spectacle. I miss getting streaming access to every game for like $15 back in they day. I...

Hoop Intellect put his board on YouTube. According to him, the Spurs went into the draft with one pick in each of the second, third, fourth and fifth tiers. They came away with one prospect from tier 2, two prospects from tier 3 and one prospect from tier 6. Barlow was the 49th guy on his board. If...

So Durant is definitely better, but you don't move Murray in the pursuit of Durant. You keep Murray, snag a max guy in free agency and then go all in on Durant. Obviously you keep who you can. But that has to be the structure of an off-season that involves a Durant trade. Anyway, if I'm Pop, I...

I don't know how many people remember how after the Aldridge signing in 2015, a bunch of OG STers came back for a bit. Is this draft going to be the next Field of Dreams moment for the site?

I do find myself sleeping on him, even in the context of Barlow. It feels like an "extra" selection, when in reality, he and Branham fill different needs. Obviously there are "too many" guards right now, but that doesn't mean only one of these guys is going to get the short end of the stick. They...

Holy shit, Barlow is 6-9 barefoot with a 7-3 wingspan. It wouldn't surprise me if he had a higher standing reach than Duren. He wouldn't be a giant center, but it's a position he might be able to grow into.

Sochan didn't get measured at the combine, as far as I could tell, but Branham is 6-4 without shoes. If Sochan is a 6-9 without shoes, it would explain the size difference. Wesley is even smaller at 6-3 barefoot. Barlow is 6-9 barefoot, so he'd be considered 6-10 under the old system. That's...

I agree that the draft checked most of the big boxes. I wanted: A PF who could defend the best forwards, a guard who could defend the elite PGs, a strong offensive player, a backup center with potential. I would say the Spurs got the first two unambiguously and might well have gotten the...

I mean, if you told me the Spurs were going to trade down from 38 to 48 then draft a guy to give a two-way to, I wouldn't be that mad. Blah, blah, still good players there and all, but I wouldn't hate the value. I guess the team really scouted the PF position this year. Obviously Sochan being a...

Yep, I considered that. There were some decent players who didn't get picked, and the Spurs using a two-way on them rather than using it on a random vet definitely takes some of the sting. I don't know if Barlow was the guy I wanted, but it seems like he's a guy folks didn't really get to see much...

So apparently the Spurs signed Dominick Barlow to a two-way deal. This is what ESPN said about him: Doesn't seem to be the center I wanted, but he is a big with potential.

Often, I'll only superficially look at the pre-draft stuff, pick a few guys who seem worth watching a YouTube vid or two on, and then wait for the actual selections to look into them. That's the case with Branham. I do like what I've see. He and even Wesley seem to fill a need for offensive...

There are going to be at least seven players on the roster who don't play in the everyday rotation. Collins might be one of them. He's way more vulnerable to losing his spot for a lot of reasons. Sochan might play the five because it's a position he can play in the NBA, especially off the bench for...

As I just typed, I don't think the Spurs picked any bad players. They didn't move any future capital or lose any rotation players, and I think they got three guys they were happy with. I do think they were active on the phone lines during all three of their first-rounders and failed to get anything...

Yep. Also, as I've mentioned before, it's bad juju to trade a pick like this. I wouldn't be surprised if Chandler were a guy STers moaned trading away. I didn't love him as much as some options, but he was mocked in the first, so he has talent. Memphis of all teams knows how to realize that. I...

If the Spurs had been able to pull off the Johnson trade, then Bridges would make a lot of sense. I don't think he does with Sochan and Keldon on the roster. I don't hate Jalen Smith, but I also don't see it worth it to have both him and Collins back up Poeltl. The other guys are rotation players...

Yeah. There are going to be good players picked at or below that spot, and the Spurs have room to take a guy there. I wonder if they couldn't find a guy who agreed to be a two-way? The thing is, it's very hard for a single second to be worth it. Even the 31st pick next year isn't necessarily better...

Not a fan of trading 38 for only one pick. They could use a young center and had the chance to draft one that could make the roster. They shouldn't need cash -- they have a tiny payroll and will undoubtedly get more cash as part of their rebuilding trades. They now have a huge hole at PF/C but...

I think when the Spurs drafted Sochan, STers like were "Finally, PATFO realizes the team needs size". Then each successive pick has been shorter and shorter.

What you think it "needs to be" what and it's likely to be are two different things. I hope Sochan blows them out of the water and starts right away too. But the last rookie to start from jump-street was literally decades ago. There's a ton of pressure to start another guard too, given the talent...
