Quote:
Texas A&M is up to No. 3 in the Recruiting Rankings with two more 2019 commitments on Super Bowl Sunday from four-star recruits in receiver Kam Brown and cornerback Bobby Wolfe. And more seems to be coming. It's obviously very early in 2019 and there will be twists and turns as it ebbs and flows, but as it stands right now, the Aggies are in great shape for many more of the state's top targets. I went ahead and put in Crystal Ball forecasts for those prospects, five-star offensive tackle Kenyon Green, receivers Theo Wease and Arjei Henderson, defensive end Marcus Stripling, safety Demani Richardson and cornerbacks Erick Young and Marquez Beason. Beyond those two, the Aggies are in great shape with Top two-way athlete Jeffery Carter and defensive tackle DeMarvin Leal.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
I got him on ignore but I think it would be great if he actually started one and a bunch of Aggies joined in. That would be fun. I would not mind reading it. Or any other school. If he could pull off a TFloss and actually get people reading and responding without major trollage, cool.
-
Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
I think it's a great idea..hopefully keeps it updated

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
Quote:
OT Kenyon Green, Atasocita: The state’s top-ranked player, the Aggies are in very good shape with the five-star tackle. He publicly named A&M his leader and it is going to take a lot of work by another school to keep him from being an Aggie.
Quote:
DE Marcus Stripling, Katy Mayde Creek: The 6-2.5/260 defender was blown away by the new staff in Aggieland. He was already really high on A&M and is in College Station frequently to see friends. It is likely an A&M/OU battle but the Aggies are positioned well.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
OP aside, it's not a bad idea to create separate threads for other colleges. i've always felt bad about having to post aggie information on the texas thread. of course, tfloss does such a great job with the texas thread it's just so hard to pass up. (i actually am considering starting a thread on local high school talent - or even afar if we can get input- so we can give relevant updates and takes on the high school players.)

not shocked to see Gunnell decommit as i think it was expected by quite a few. a&m still in play, of course, but i expect this one to play out for a while.

A great idea. I for one like to see where the local kids end up.

I actually see him end up in Arkansas, lots of family ties and the new coaching staff that can showcase his talent.
Not a big loss for aggy as I think Jimbo is looking for a QB like Winston that has some running ability. I know he went and visited Roshon Johnson a few weeks back.

Gunnell must have picked up on something that must have made him nervous about his situation with A&M. i agree that Arkansas is a front-runner but i wouldn't rule out OSU either.
-
Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
Maybe Gunnell and A&M was a mutual parting of ways? Jimbo has as I understand it visited several top QBs for the 2019 cycle.

You guys are in the drivers seat for a ton of talent.
Easily the team to beat for Kenyon Green, and Theo Wease. According to 247 that would be a sweep of the top 3 in state. Though, I don't think they will end up top 3 in the final rankings, but it's still good to know if your an Aggy.
But truth is I'd rather see these kids end up at A&M than Oklahoma (if Texas can't have them).

Aggies need to realize that Jimbo has taken on a 4 year project, your not going up against the Big 12 anymore, you have to beat Bama and Georgia if you want to make the playoffs, that isn't going to happen overnight.

i read somewhere that the hope is to crack the top 10 after three years, which seems like the most realistic view to take for one hoping for a best case scenario in a short time frame.
-
Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
Top 10 in 3 years is very realistic. Jimbo needs 4 straight years of great recruiting and getting a guy like Jamis who can win games on his own. That is how you beat Bama and Georgia. Frankly, I'm thinking Florida is going to be back pretty fast with Mullen leading the way.
Keep this in mind, Saban realistically probably only has 4 to 6 years left in him, maybe less. That is when you guys need to be ready to strike and take over the West. I have a hard time seeing it happen before he leaves. But you have Jimbo for 10 years so we shall see.

6'4 and 6'8. Do you know who he is? I'd be surprised if you didn't since their family is 100% Ags

Kyle Tharp | Cibolo Steele | OT | 6’6/310
When Cibolo Steele reloads, it reloads. The monster tackle is another underclassmen prospect for the Knights coming with elite potential. At 6’6 and over 310 pounds, Tharp already looks the part. Tharp could be a huge asset to what is already one of the strongest positions at Steele in 2018.

from what i know, ags are still recruiting nakobe dean (ILB from MS), WR dylan wright from mesquite, adisa issac (DE from NY), marcus stripling (DE from mayde creek) and devonta lee from LA (athlete). i can't see more than 25 or 26 tops assuming there are no decommits.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
Jimbo took a number of commitments from some lower tier guys, I wonder if he might cut a few guys lose to make room for better prospects? Not saying he would do that, but if he did, I'm curious how that would go over with THSCA. They don't forget things like that.

I considered that as a possibility, that he would let go of some of the three stars to make room for another four star but that would be a new low and would set a dangerous precedent if he did so. i certainly hope that is not what transpires.

I want to revisit this Leal decision in December to see if it was a good one or a bad one. There is still a lot of football to be played. Texas lost to a Maryland team, that is probably on the same talent level as a WVU or Tech. Ags beat a 1AA team. I guess it's all about perception especially when it comes to recruiting.
Even if they get clobbered by Clemson and Bama, I'm sure Leal will find enough positives to want to stick with them. It's what happens when the Ags play USCe, LSU, Miss St, and Ole Miss that will determine the direction of the program.

i actually saw him at the steele game as he was in attendance. he had no college gear on, if that matters. i think bama has a shot at him but there are always external factors that come into play such as family so who knows.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
texas is going through their version of the a&m fran years but, unlike fran, texas continues to recruit well so that gives them an advantage in that regard. i think it's harder for a&m to recover from lean years than it is for texas to, mainly due to the brand name and appeal of texas to recruits. but if herman continues on this downward spiral, then the next coaching hire has to be out of the park.

It already has to be. Right now this is looking like 1984 all over again. Back then Oklahoma was winning championships, Aggies had Jackie and they were on an upward swing. Then you had the out of state teams raiding Texas for top talent like Miami Nebraska, and Notre Dame. Texas isn't in as bad a shape because unlike back then when Akers refused to recruit Inner-City kids, Herman at lease is doing a good job recruiting.
Still Texas can't afford another David McWilliams, or John Macovich, they need a proven commodity. Texas boosters have screwed this up too many times, they always want to get their man, well this is where we are now. Texas needs CDC to step up and take the bull by the horns and get the man to get the job done. If that means breaking the bank then they should do it. Offer Dabo a 5 year 50 million contract and make Clemson either match or make him say no.
This is the only sure thing Texas that can do to dig itself out of this whole mess.
And my goodness, Texas needs to get rid of the LHN and either move conferences or start a conference network. LHN is worthless while Texas sucks, and even if they were good, the only thing worth watching is Texas game day. Back when when this thing was starting up the idea was to fill in programming with high school games, but the NCAA shot that down. Now we are left with this abomination that really does nothing but create bad will with other schools. Time to call it a failure and move on.

revised history. Herman didn't hire beck over Brewster, Brewster chose not to come to Texas. Beck is the OC, Brewster was never going to be a OC, he is a recruiter and nothing more. They let him coach TE at FSU and A&M so he has a title, but the truth is he has one job, and he does it very well.
I'd be okay with moving Beck to TE coach he is still a witch of a recruiter, look at the job he is doing in California.

Texas is in the middle of one of the weakest runs in school history and is still making over 87 million. It's a nice story for aggsy, but it won't last long. Texas will eventually be back and #1 again. Just need something for the fans to be excited about.

Apparently, Shephard got into a physical altercation with a coach during spring work, with $9.95ers present, Fast forward to this fall and he's done something similar again.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
I wonder if he has a coach he hates like I did. Back in my senior year of high school, (A very very long time ago). I had a coach that everyone on our team hated, he was a wanna-be hard ass. One day my best friend and I decided to get him back. I played on the offensive line and him on the defensive line. we locked up and acted like we were in a big time struggle, while we were locked up we both ran sideways and just plowed him over. Both of us fell on him. When we got up all the coaches gave us a pat on the back for going at each other so hard.
I still think back on that and laugh my ass off. Today we probably would be kicked out of school and charged with assult.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
As I said on the Texas thread, I'd love to get him and him keep his commitment, but the truth is, if he does flip it will be two commitments after two emotional games. the likelihood is he will just do it again and again. I'd prefer him to take in everything and then make a well thought out decision not an emotional decision he will later regret.

Re: 2019 Texas A&M Recruiting Thread
overall, i wasn't too disappointed with the bama loss. this is the scariest bama team i've seen in the saban years as they have their typical defense, RBs and WRs but they finally have a great QB. ags moved the ball here and there and shut down the Bama running game but the secondary was shredded. it's no wonder that the aggies have been focusing on the secondary in recruiting. mond missed some shots but held up fairly well. and the front seven for a&m finally looks like an SEC front seven. what they lack is an edge rusher. as for bama, georgia is the only team that i think has a shot at them. auburn doesn't have enough of an offense (same for LSU).
