Chris Anderson? Free agent?
We haven't talked much about the Birdman, but he could be our 6th big. I'm not sure if he still has game, but he's probably worth thinking about.
We could probably split the MLE between Azubuike at 3.25 per year and the world's worst dunker at 2.5.
Anderson would be hungry and eager to please after sitting in the corner for the last couple of years.
For roster purposes, this would leave the LLE untouched. Depending on how things shake out, the Spurs would have that as an option after mid season buy outs.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
Why do you need Chris Anderson when you have all man, all meat, all automatic Machine ----> Mr. George Hill.

I remember watching that contest. I had to turn away I was so embarrassed by/for him.
Still, he's a good shot blocker with high energy. We could do worse filling out the big rotation.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
I floated The Birdman out there about a month ago but no-one took the bait.
Then I looked up his age - he's 30. We should go young and can do better.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign for the Hornets and play a valuable role off the bench for them next season (their bench bigs are crap).

Thats true. Beyond West and Chandler the Hornets don't have a very capable frontcourt. A few years ago they had the 12th and 15th picks in the draft and spent them both on posts. As a result you got Cedric Simmons and Hilton Armstrong...two underachieving bigs. That was supposed to be the resolution of their bench big problem, but it only mired them down further.
Andersen was a capable (and well liked) player the year before. Of course he was dismissed for his drug issues. The Hornets pulled off trades for Marc Jackson and Aaron Williams that year to fill the gap. And a Steven Hunter trade was approved initially but overturned when he failed his physical. Their frontcourt has been a work in progress for sometime.
Honestly, I have always thought this would be a great place for Bonner to go. The Hornets value shooters and really need posts. Bonner could undoubtedly find a role in this offense. I always felt that a Bonner for Rasual Butler trade made sense for both parties.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
Birdman is like Elson...minus the tan AND the jumper. Pass.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
You know you have a problem when you bring out JR Smith for his assist skills. The Spurs have no need for Tom Copa 2.0, as they now have white players that actually contribute during the game.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
Birdman > Gist. You may not like him, but it's a little much to compare a proven rotation guy to a late second round pick that is a long shot to make the league.
And Birdman =/> Elson. His shot blocking and pulse probably provide some seperation. But they are the sort of guys that should be in play as our last bench big.
There are only three swings out there that will market the full MLE--or that we should consider paying that much--Artest, Smith and Siskauskas. Artest still hasn't opted out, Denver, inexplicably is threatening a red match on Smith, and Siskauskas would demand the cash, but one wonders if his game would translate.
That leaves players like Azubuike for less than the full MLE. I'm using Birdman as a brainstorm for splitting the MLE. He's still young enough that the Spurs might want to wrap someone like him up for a couple years in a MLE split.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
I've not seen this guy play. My question is what has Birdman done is this league to warrant a look by any team?

His m.o. is high energy shot blocker. He's the sort of player that is active around the hoop and will get 1.5 in 15 to 18 minutes of playing time.
We've discussed Javtokas for the same reason, and he's completely unproven. Birdman > Javtokas.

Re: Chris Anderson? Free agent?
San Antonio doesn't have enough meth labs to lure him over here.

Seriously, couldn't the Spurs just place a bag of vomit on the end of the bench with "burdmahn" scrawled on it in crayon?
