Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
looks like Detriot is now a player as well. Basically anyone with the MLE available will be linked to CM, however he cant sign with all of them. Even with the Boston report on ESPNNEWs yesterday, i think they put that up since it was a slow sports day yesterday. I am sure BOS is talking to him but i doubt they would offer the MLE so soon, esp. if it would drive posey away which it would, and there is no promise that PHI or GS will not offer 10M next week and blow everyone out of the water and leave them with a pissed off posey. I am sure the spurs offered the MLE, but i do question who these "sources" are saying he would sign there. I think alot of the talk is based on the spurs offering the contract and it "making sense" that we would go there. but if anyone breaks the bank for Mag, I know he bolts for them. If he only gets MLE offers, i say its 50/50 he goes to the spurs.
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
Maggette, if he ends up signing for the full MLE, will select a team which can offer him the ability to opt out in 2010 and receive from that club (or from another in a sign and trade) the large long-term contract he seeks. Boston will most likely be unable to so that. Detroit could, but that's assuming Wallace and McDyess would be gone.
Among those offering the MLE, only the Spurs and Magic can offer Maggette that scenario. And I expect him to sign with one of those if he signs for the MLE.

However, the Celtics don’t have a starting job for Maggette, who is being courted by several other teams that can.

A number of winners, including the Celtics, are targeting Maggette, who seems prepared to take less money.
"If you want to win, you have to make sacrifices," Maggette told the Boston Globe.

maggs to the pistons doesn't make sense either to me. with the celts or the pistons, he's looking at coming off the bench while he's gonna start with us.
come on, corey...make it official already!
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
The more teams get in the less likely he is coming.
Yeah move on, the guy aint coming.

Well this takes the Sixers and the Warriors out of the picture. I don't see the Pistons as a good fit. I still think that its between us, Boston and Orlando with us and Orlando having the most to offer. The family ties to Boston could still land him there though.
I ain't moving on until the ink on a contract...
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
We'll probably have this all figured out within the next 3 days.
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
I have my doubts about CM coming to the Spurs too, but I never thought Finley would've chose the Spurs over those other contenders either, some 3 years ago.

If either of them offered him a deal starting at $9-10M, he'd sign in a heartbeat. What's he supposed to say? "I'll go for the money first, and if it isn't there, I'll sign with the best team available."?
It's all about the Benjamins. They'll say otherwise, but it's just spin.

i highly doubt it. i think he really wants to start winning now. i believe there comes a time in your career when you come to the conclusion that you have all the money you need right now in life, and all thats left is just to win.
cmon its not like hell be playing for free for 5.8 mill for 1 year.

Despite the fact that he'll be making about 2mil less than he would have been making had he not opted out, I wonder if other factors may come into play. Factors such as no state income tax in Texas and the additional earnings from a deep playoff run.

Plus all the press and endorsements he'd be dealing with during his stay in San Antonio :lol

Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
Boston and Detroit are bad picks for Maggette if he's looking to cash in in 2010, neither team will offer him the playing time to sustain the numbers he's been putting up recently. Not that he'll put up those same number in SA but they'll be closer to what they are now then if he's a back up.
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
Detroit makes less sense for Maggette than Boston. Besides, doesn't Detroit want to play their younger group more?
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette

You actually pray for additions to a basketball roster?
Good...I didn't want to be the only one. :)

Shit, I pray every quarter.
Re: Yahoo: Spurs front-runners in race for Maggette
its not always about the money, there are still plenty of examples of players taking pay cuts, i hope maggette realizes that we can offer him the best role among all the contenders.
