We actually need the bench scoring more than we need the defense. Posey is a great bench player and role player, but he's not much of a scorer. If you leave him open, he'll hit a dagger 3 in the clutch- just as Lakers fans. But you couldn't count on Posey or any other Celtics bench player for double digits in points almost every single night because none of the Celtics bench guys create for themselves.
Our defense was easily the best in the NBA last year and while the offense was very good, at times, we had some decent sized streaks of not being able to score the ball when the 2nd unit came in because none of them could create for themselves. Pierce, KG or Ray always had to be left in or the offense would go to complete shit.
Tom Thibodeau also helped turn Ray Allen and Eddie House into a very solid defensive players when they were viewed as "terrible and complete liabilities" so I have no doubt he'd do the same for a much more athletic Corey Maggette.
exactly..
Posey can make shots, but he can't create his own shot..he doesn't have nice athleticism..he's getting old IIRC..
he doesn't really fit our team at all..
he would fit a team like the Lakers, because they need perimeter defense..but we need some offense/athleticism..
