Nocioni is available

Here's an article from ESPN, saying the Nets are looking to trade for him. I don't know that the Spurs have anything that would interest the Bulls, but if all they want to do is slash payroll, we could help out there I guess.

Nets Target Nocioni
The Nets' payroll restrictions are a bit more flexible than agents were led to believe when the free-agent market opened.

For example, the Nets believe they still remain in the running for the likes of Eduardo Najera and Keyon Dooling -- two of the very few players they agree deserve three-year commitments -- but not so much for guys they think are worth only two (Mickael Pietrus, etc.).

They are pursuing that as well, with Andres Nocioni being one of their primary targets. The veteran forward is available, GMs throughout the league confirm, for one reason: Chicago needs to slash payroll in order to give Luol Deng the $55-60 million to re-sign. -- The Star-Ledger

A 3rd team would have to be involved as Nocioni is a BYC player.

any other year i would LOVE to have nocioni. if any player fits perfectly into the Spurs system it would be him.

Nocioni was pretty damn bad last year. He turned into a ballhog offensively and he didn't play defense. I used to really like him but last year it was scary seeing how bad he was.

That said, I'd probably still take him but I don't see how a trade would work.

That'd be nice but a sign-and-traded player has to sign for at least three years. The first year has to be fully guaranteed.

To get Nocioni, the Spurs would have to get pretty inventive. It'd require something like:

-San Antonio receives Andres Nocioni from Chicago
-Chicago receives Matt Bonner from San Antonio
-Golden State receives Thabo Sefolosha from Chicago and Michael Finley plus two second rounders from San Antonio

Finley would have to sign a three-year, $12M contract with the only the first year guaranteed. Golden State would have to actually want Sefolosha (or some other cheap talent on Chicago such as Tyrus Thomas) and be willing to eat the $4M Finley would be due.

The trade would trim around $7M from Chicago's cap and give them room to re-sign Deng. And the Spurs take on the long contract of Nocioni.

Pretty damn unlikely but that's the type of trade it'd take for the Spurs to land Nocioni.

I might be wrong but I beleive Chapu was injured last year. Not to mention EVERYONE in Chicago played horrible last year. I am sure this affected Chapu's play.

In a good environment he is a true BEAST. See Argentina National team.

But I do agree Maggette is a player who creates own whot and is faster and more athletic than Nocioni. On the other hand, Chapu is a proven clutch winner. tough call on who is better.

Hell no! When you have guys like Maggette, Pietrus, Smith, Azkubuike, R.Mason, Posey, Childress all out there on the free agency market, why would you even consider it?

Nocioni wuold help no doubt... but Maggette > Nocioni

For the Spurs, and for any other team in the league.

Nocioni plays defense 10 times better than Magette and he's stronger. He is a better rebounder, passer and 3 point shooter.

Magette is faster and can create his own shot out of the dribble constantly.

Not going to happen. Bulls will ask something like Udoka+Thomas/Oberto and a 2nd round draft pick. They need to reduce the payroll but they aren't Memphis.

Before last year, I would have agreed. But last year Nocioni didn't play defense nearly as well as usual. I don't know if he was banged up or just pissed about being on a bad team but his defensive effort wasn't there. Last season, Nocioni's main concern when he entered games was firing up as many shots as possible.

Last year Maggette was 5th among Small Forwards in PER ranking.

Nocioni was 35th..... just amongst SF... so yea he was pretty terrible.

But when hes focused and playing to his capabilities.. he has intangibles Maggette doesnt have.

But Maggette is what the Spurs need, and in any case hes simply a better basketball player....

From the interviews I read, he was very frustrated. He even had an argument with one of the coaches during a timeout. He later apologized to him and his teammates, but most of them didn't seem to give a fuck about it. He was banged up for some stretches, but when he came back from the injury he couldn't load back the minutes he had before.

In the interviews given to the Argentinian media, he implied that some of his teammates didn't give a fuck about winning or losing, and he just couldn't accept that. From my point of view, Skilles lost the plot and he also lost the respect of the players. At one point of the season, the Bulls were a team that jacked up shots with no coherence at all, and played no defense.

This is a guy that would throw himself to the stands to save a loose ball with his leg broken. If Manu has a will to win and hates losing, then Nocioni arrives home and starts whipping himself after every lost game.

After the 2006 World Championships where Argentina lost to Spain in the semifinals, in a game where Nocioni missed the game winning-shot, he set a picture of that shot as a wallpaper in his laptop, and a video of the same shot as his screensaver. He said that image reminded him that he needs to improve and work hard in practice every day.

Maybe it's possible to lure him somehow, because, after all, this are the Bulls. Since the 2004 season, when they had a very promising team, they have made the dumbest moves in the offseason and wasted draft picks. If the Spurs are able to get him, they've got the long 3 they've been looking for years.

From what I could find, his salary went up from about $3.5M to $8.5M, meaning that since this is his BYC year we would need to offer up half of his BYC salary in compensation. So we'd need around $4.25 in return. If you include the Beno trade exception we would only need to include Bonner in the trade or the trade could be Bonner + Vaughn, depending on how much room the Bulls need. Either trade scenario would be okay with me.

Since this is the first year of his contract, that would make it this year wouldn't it? Last season you wouldn't have used his $8.5M (or half that) because the $8.5M salary is for the '08-'09 season. Last season he made around $3.5 M.

I checked out more info on BYC trades and those are tough. I think it would require at least a 3rd team which adds an order of magnitude of difficulty to the equation.

The NBA has that one covered. It would require a multi-year deal w/ Finley with the first year guaranteed, and Finley would have to agree. So w/ the guaranteed Finley and Bonner contracts, the Bulls are no closer to finding relief from the salary cap. Thus no incentive on the Bulls part to pull the trigger on that deal...

Nocioni has to be one of the most overrated and overpaid players in the NBA. Sure he can shoot and all, but this team would benefit far more with Maggette in the lineup than Nocioni. Match-up wise Maggette gives you more versatility than Nocioni.

If you guys dont remember Andres Nocioni missed 1/4 of the games in 2007 due to a foot injury comming back in the Miami Heat series that same year, perhaps thats what made him worser in 2008

The only reason why Andres Nocioni did bad last year was because his teammates were being assholes no disrespect to them. At times according to inside sources, Nocioni and Joakim Noah, and even Chris Duhon would start fights with some of the Bulls players because they thought the players just gave up on the team. Andres Nocioni is a perfect match for the Spurs, he will stay under your skin and piss the fuck out of you similiar to Bruce Bowen, he can shoot the three very well and best of all HE IS INTERNATIONAL lol.
