Ginobili still playing waiting game over ankle injury
Manu Ginobili is hopeful that he will be able to play at the Beijing Games but is still uncertain if his left ankle injury will prevent him from helping Argentina defend their title. The superstar guard flew to San Antonio this week to have his ankle examined by doctors and then returned home to Argentina.
“After the second injection they applied on my left ankle in San Antonio, I need to rest three or four days and then have some rehabilitation for five more days,” Ginobili said. “If after that time the pain is acute, then things will be complicated.”
Argentina basketball fans are waiting on the edge of their seats to see if Ginobili will be able to play in Beijing.
Ginobili says everyone needs to be patient.
“They haven´t given me a definite date (about a decision),” he said.
“They only spoke to me about rehabilitation and then we shall see.
“I personally would prefer to have a definite date but for the time being there´s nothing for me to do but wait for the updates every 24 hours.”
San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich and the Spurs did not want Ginobili to play last summer at the FIBA Americas Championship, advising him to rest instead.
“What did Popovich tell me when I was in San Antonio?” Ginobili said of this week’s visit.
“He wants me to go to Beijing but just like the other executives, he told me to be honest when the time comes to take a definite decision.”
Argentina coach Sergio Hernandez, meanwhile, is remaining optimistic about Argentina’s chances in China.
“What would happen if Manu cannot go to the Olympics?” he said.
“There´s always a Plan B but I am optimistic that he will recover.
“But if that didn´t happen, you cannot cry in a tournament because you are missing a player.
“What the team must do is not to focus on the ones that are absent but on the potential the team has.”

For many people they are.
Very few simple-minded people believe a local tourney is more important than a world event.
I wonder why most of these simpletons live in the US. Coincidence? I think not.

Yes, basketball is a business and he does get paid millions, but the guy has already played a major role on our team for 5-6 years now and signed for less than we would have gotten on the open market. Re: Ginobili Still Playing Waiting Game Over Ankle Injury
Ginobili Still Hurting: As discussed in this space last week, San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili may still be hurt and could be forced to miss playing for Argentina at the Olympics in Beijing. "It was worse than [Ginobili] let on," Spurs forward Anthony Bonner recently told the Toronto Star. "When I was watching Ray Allen go right by [Lakers guard] Sasha [Vujacic] every time and lay it in every time, I was like, 'Yeah, it must have been really hurting.' " Because of the injury it's looking quite likely the Spurs will ask Ginobili not to play. The Spurs as a franchise are one of the few big proponents of their players getting involved with their respective national teams, so asking Ginobili not to play would make it seem they are quite worried. Bonner's statement raises another issue too, this one for Lakers' restricted free agent Vujacic. He earned quite a bit of praise and presumably made himself some money this summer specifically for his defense on Ginobili. Yet, following that up with the defense played against Boston's Allen made some wonder. Could this be the answer? Vujacic simply looked good because of Ginobili's injury? Manu is probably nodding his head, and it's something the Lakers need to take into account. The defensive duo of Jordan Farmar and Vujacic works well when the Lakers want to spread the floor and play full court pressure defense, but in a halfcourt set the answer may be Vujacic isn't good enough to stop the better two guards. He's quick, tough and a little bit sneaky, but he's hardly the player to body someone up to stop or alter a drive to the hoop. There is still little doubt Vujacic re-signs with the Lakers, but it will be interesting to see where the numbers end up and if Vujacic and the Lakers are close as to what the value should be.
1. The Machine didn't lock down Manu?
2. Anthony Bonner?

idiots didn't want him to play in the conference finals cuz he was hurting the team, yet most had no problem with him limping and showing guts because thats what he gets paid for.
I really wish the US would go to a college player, young NBA players 3-4 years in the league or less and players at the endo of the their careers 10yrs or more that actually want to play in the olympics. We don't even want to watch olympic bball anymore because the players are greedy selfish, would rather be on vacation and are only there according to cuban to make more money. Yet when we see real nationalism, players that want to represent for their country, players that see olympic gold, hell silver and bronze as a greater accomplishment than any trophy including the obrian trophy they are viewed as selfish and greedy. We just don't seem to give a dam about national pride anymore, keep our players out so they wont' get hurt. I would ask what people thought is Manu was actually up for the US team, but this country is so jaded that it would be a no brainer, don't play, its only the olympics

Re: Ginobili Still Playing Waiting Game Over Ankle Injury
Despite being injured, Manu surprised everybody taking place extensively of the first golden generation practices in Rosario.
Followed every instant by Chad Bergman, the Spurs athletic trainer sent by the Spurs, Emanuel Ginobili started with a light differentiated session for the rehab of his left ankle with the rest of the national team. The sessions are having a very close control from the Spurs and will get tougher with the arrival of David Smith, one of the main doctors of the Texan franchise, that is arriving with the purpose of doing the last evaluation on Manu. Ginobili said he is supposed to arrive the 20th. When they told him the team is supposed to be leaving for Spain the 19th he said: “ well, I will have to let them know”. As per his agent Carlos Prunes, Smith will be in charge of give him or not the approval to play the summer games.
Meanwhile, it was a surprise yesterday the activity held by the player, that started doing some abs and weight lifting on the (upper body and some lower without using his feet) next to his teammates on the muscle development gym. Then the work continued on Newell’s Old Boys stadium court. Those were 10 minutes of cycling next to it and ended up with stretching exercises and shooting 30 free throws but without jumping or moving from the line.
“Until tomorrow he will surely be under the effects of the infiltration that was injected in San Antonio, so we will start planning on his work on a daily basis with Chad. Possibly tomorrow he will start with some pool work” doctor Diego Grippo (Argentine NT) said. Yesterday night on the basketball practice, Manu walked on the sidelines for 10 minutes, did some stretching work again, abs and then slow motion movements with the ankle (all this under Bergman’s supervision). When the team started with the tactic movements, he sat on the bench to observe.
Raul Foradoni president of Santa Fe Province Basketball Federation that is organizing Wednesday’s match against Poland, referred to Manu's good will to come despite the injury. “What he did is extraordinary. He is Maradona. He could have easily opted not to come, but he wanted to be part of it and we will always be grateful for that. What we do regret is that the public haven’t taken into account the effort to bring so many NBA’s, some of them born and raised here [Nocioni and Delfino], that defended the province jersey in so many Argentinean championships and are beloved. Something weird happened: the day that Manu announced his injury and that he wouldn’t be able to play here, we were selling tickets and the people when they noticed, started to leave the lines”. The rage of the front office official has to do with only 4000 tickets being sold so far. “ I trust that in the last day people from the area that likes basketball a lot, come to the stadium to support the Olympic champs”
The comparison with Maradona made some journalists talk about that Diego played 1990’s World cup finals with his ankle infiltrated and minimized Manu’s injury. “There is only one Maradona” Ginobili pointed out. “Surely I don’t have even the half of what he did, but it’s cool that people from soccer bring their opinion; it is good for basketball as it brings more attention and that makes me happy.”

- Manu was the most solicited by the fans. The guard of the autograph hunters is permanent at the front of the Riviera Hotel. And everything strengthens and invigorates when the players come and go from the training facility. The shouts of “Manu, Manu!” could be heard from really far. Since yesterday there is also a police custody on the hotel's main entrance. It wasn’t even enough with the Hotel employees and the bag carrying guys; now the control is more rigorous. But everybody in the team have the best vibe, they stop and satisfy the requirements of so many fans.

Well if Manu plays in the olympics INJURED, than I don't expect him to do anything better than what he did for the Spurs while he was INJURED. That is why if he is INJURED he should sit this out because he will not really make an impact and he has a strong chance of getting worse.

Bynum was injured for HALF of the last season largely because they did not opt for surgery right away and instead decided to wait to see if it would heal on its own. Had they done that he would have been back for the playoffs. The Lakers have the luxury of not rushing things with Bynum, he's only 20 and has a bright future in this league.
BTW, he played two full NBA seasons before that without injury. Why don't you tell me how Elton Brand is injury-prone because he missed one season?

The Ginobili homers have nothing to unleash. It's fairly obvious to tell who is and who is not one. I understand both sides of the argument but what it comes down to are those who defend his decisions - however rash they may be at times - no matter what, and those who are much stricter with the concept of (Spurs) team-first.

Yea :rolleyes
It depends what you mean by saying DEVELOPING
We have absolutely no base for any kind of development.
No talent can be 'consumed' acurate, if you can use such words.
In our leauge there are less and less polish guys and not much people give a shit about it.
So I don't care. I only will care when they will show NT on tv.
Well hmm in Euro which will be held in Poland.

Tell me ducky boy, is it you think watching game film is going to heal his ankle faster?
Enjoy dissing the man during this off season. Next season, you'll be quiet again.
staying off your ankle and letting it heal will make it heal faster then playing on it
what are you 2?

Ducks you're the only poster on this board who still rips Manu for how he played in the WCF even though he was seriously hurt. You want him to watch film of how he played poorly in a series he couldn't move for what reason? To humiliate him some more? To make him sad? Jesus Christ are you one stupid jealous son of a bitch. Not even the devoted member of the CoM hates Tony half as much as you hate Manu. I'm amazed they haven't banned your ass.

It's really sad when ducks is more clever than someone he's in a fight with. I hadn't expected that to happen.

Sorry, that was badly phrased. What I meant was echoed by others though - if Ginobili had to choose between playing for the Spurs and the Argentinean National Team, he would pick the latter each time.

He was the main reason there even was a Game 7, jackass. Your boy Tony stunk out the joint in Dallas in Game 6 and needed Manu to bail his ass out. I guess you forgot about that. :lol:lol

Manu comes up with big plays down the stretch to seal the win for Game 5.
Manu goes crazy in Game 6 for a win to lead to Game 7.
Manu was a major driving force along with Duncan and Finley to come back in Game 7 and go up by 3.
So yeah Manu was the reason, Pop even quoted it in the articles above.
Manu > Tony 'nuff said.
I can't believe we are paying Tony so much and Manu so little, way unbalanced.
