Dear Corey Maggette...
Speaking on behalf of all the Spurs' fans throughout the country, we would like to say congrats on the the new 50 million dollar deal. I understand why you took the money, I would probably too. 50 million dollars is hard to turn down. Best of Luck in Golden State where you will never reach the playoffs again. Heres to a 44 win season at best:toast

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
Mr Correy I beg you to come to SA
you will see atleast 25 minutes a game
You will also get to earn your right to start
You also get to play with a guy named duncan
duncan will help create open looks for you
he is way better then anyone you every played for
and spurs basketball is about team not I so everyone gets lots of touches
-
Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
We don't beg for anybody. That is for the rest of the loser chumps in the league that have never won a damn thing.
If he doesn't want to come here, start and have a very good chance of winning a ring, then screw him.

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
Dear Corey,

I agree. What's with this waiting game? Maggette doesn't need to do us any favors. The rings are his to win with the Spurs should he opt to sign with them. If not, go somewhere else and good luck trying to win a Title.

did you beg for duncan, manu or tp to stay with the spurs?

Go there. They're good peeps.
You might even get a reach-around from Manu or Tony while stretching in the halls before games.

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
I like the quote that Payton Manning said to the Colts GM (I think), when he was trying to decide to take either Manning or Ryan Leaf. It went something along the lines of "Either you can take me this year, or I will come back and beat you for the next ten."
I think it applies here. Either you can come to San Antonio, or you can watch the Spurs beat your team for the rest of your career. Not like it'd be any different from your career up to this point.....

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
Dear Corey,
The Clippers may be red
Violet and blue,
But if you're smart you'd be black and silver
And this is why, fool:
If you look below the surface
Into the Celtic sea of white and green
You'll see nothing but a bunch of has-beens
On their last championship team
But you might go down south
To play for the Magic
Or even down further to Miami
To play for the Tragic
Hell, you might just walk across town
And play next to Kobe
But unless you take him to Colorado
You won't get a pass unless it's from his attorney
And speaking of the Rockies
You might find attraction in Melo
Who, aside from the pot, tattoos, narcissism, speeding and not snitching videos
Is probably a real good fellow
But if you find your way into Texas
Into the Lone Star state
Just make sure you ask for the Alamo
Unless you want to see how the Spurs' ass taste
Because while the Clippers are red
Violet and blue,
The Spurs know how to be champs
And if you join them, you might just learn too
-

Dear Corey Maggette,

But please come to San Antonio

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
only one team in the nba has bought a team and won it all that same season.....this yrs champions boston celtics.(that im aware of since 1973)..others have tried and failed...im proud the way we put together a team from other parts of the world....im proud that players who didnt speak english tried to understand each others slang before asking....hey where's cherry street?..in life you dont beg.......you go out and grab, and if you dont get what you want....you go out and grab again and again, until you have what you want......begging is like saying sorry, its a sign of weakness......our spurs may not be like they used tobe, but they are not beggers, and im sure everytime someone drops the ball or gets in someones way during practice by accident you wont hear them say......im sorry...(you forgot to check you mailbox timmy, im sorry) you left a towel out in your locker manu...im sorry) hey you knocked down my tooth brush tony....im sorry....get the picture........begging.......please

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
Dear Mr. Maggette,
Please come to the San Antonio Spurs. I'm sure by now that everybody has talked to you about the tough but fair coach, the best PF in the history of the NBA and the fun packed international locker room.
But the main reason, no make that the only real reason, why you should consider making San Antonio your home is their fans. Forget anything you have seen and experienced so far because we are second to none. This will become obvious the moment you announce your decision to join our favorite club. People will kiss the earth you walked on (among other things) and start numerous threads in several forums comparing you to Michael Jordan, Magic Jonhson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar (concluding in a fair and documented fashion, that none of the aforementioned players are good enough to even be mentioned in the same sentence as you), but that will be only the tip of the proverbial iceberg sticking out of an ocean of topics discussing the Spurs' next 3 LOB trophies, where they should build an extension to the AT&T center for their display, who on the Spurs will undoubtedly be the finals MVP and the % of probability that the Spurs will win 82 regular season games during the next 3 (maybe 4) years (it should be somewhere around 89%).
If by any chance you would happen to miss your first FG during a pre-season game we (the above mentioned best fans in the NBA) will crucify you alive in the media, bars and internet forums of San Antonio. We are extremely good at this and quite fast. The first "Trade Corey" threads will appear even before the ball reaches the basket. But don't worry those will be short lived - they will however be followed by increasingly meaner threads, where we will dissect your lifestyle, form, technique and motivation piece by piece, tacking great pleasure and pride in surpassing the level of nastiness posted by the previous poster. Photoshoped pictures of you will appear, depicting you in all sorts of embarrassing poses ranging in style from gay porn to circus freak shows. We might stop at bestiality but, just as with your playing time with the Spurs, there is not guarantee.
We are by far the most hardcore, meanest and above all dysfunctional fans of the NBA. Please come to San Antonio and meet us. You'll love us (or we'll make you).
We are your number one fan. There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be just fine. We are your number one fan. :)

lol no need to throw it back in our faces. What he said is fine. If Corey Maggette didn't go sprouting off and talking shit about making sacrifices and taking less money to win I wouldn't be mad at all, but since he did and then went to a lottery team that he doesn't even fit into he can go FUCK himself.

Can't be mad at Maggette. He would've been a fool to leave that much $$$ on the table. After all, it's not as though he committed to coming to the Spurs then changed his mind. He was holding out for a better offer from the gitgo.
Be mad at the Spurs for not having a suitable fallback option in place in case Maggette spurned them.

I don't know, you tell me.
The Bay Area is a pretty nice place to live, lots of hot chicks and great views....pricey though, but CMaggs can afford it.
Style of play would also seem to be ideal for him. If he averaged 22 ppg in Dunleavy's walk it up the court offense, how many might he score in Nellie's run and gun gimmick offense?
Bottom line is he got almost double the money per year. It could have been a hellhole like Cleveland or a wasteland like Utah and he still would have signed for $10 million per instead of $5.8 million per.
No brainer, winning is completely secondary to the money for NBA players 99.9% of the time. The .1% only applies when a player has made over $125 million in NBA contracts prior to the most recent signing.

You are 100% correct. There is not one person on this board that would take $32 million over 5 years vs $50 million over the same 5. That is $18 million that no one would leave on the table.

agree...in fact, who leaves a job to go to another job paying LESS money. i'm not mad at him, he's taking the guaranteed cash right now whereas with the spurs he would have to wait a couple of years to get his payday.

Re: Dear Corey Maggette...
The way these owners and GMs are willing to grossly overpay to outbid the next team, it was unrealistic to expect that Corey wouldn't receive an offer that exceeded the MLE that was initially being thrown at him.
More power to him. Good luck in GS. You're gonna need it.

Thats cool...at least I have my integrity...which can't be bought. I don't really understand why you are here wasting time trying to be Maggette's mouthpiece. You should probably be trying to figure out how to keep your team from spiraling into mediocrity...which might be just as much of a waste of time as what you are doing here because its probably inevitable.
