Why do you REALLY think the Spurs didn't win the championship in 2008?
way past that......and im sure everyone has said it over and over and over....
Then just vote. I want to see the official tally of where people stand.
If I could I would vote for the first 3 things.
I voted the first option, but you really can make a case for the first 3.
The referees was killing us against the Lakers
stern wanted lakers v celtics, and he got it, nothing was going to stop it from happening
just like in 03/04 with the fakers going to the finals cause they had 4FHOFs
Don't think it was any one reason, but more a combination of reasons. Manu was hurt most of the playoffs, I would say dropping off to about 50 percent by the fourth quarters.
Lakers were well rested by the time we got them, while we had just finished a dog fight with the Hornets, and were worn down.
Finley and Horry are both getting too old to bring it for long periods of time.
We don't have a backup point guard that is a scoring threat.
And then you have to consider when a season starts, your team has only 1/30 chance to "win it all".
Ah, and let's not forget the "NBA conspiracy" against the Spurs.
Wha wha I want my bottle cause Manu was hurt wha wha typical wha wha Spur wha Fan.
Something else: "NOT GOOD ENOUGH".
even Year
how about...
because they were not the best team in the league?
because manu couldnt score
I think it was several reasons. Mainly, the west was a dogfight. Had the Spurs survived that, I believe they would have beaten the Celtics. That's my opinion, for what it's worth.
this was already settled a long time ago. Lakers cheated and got Pau Gasol for nothing.
Cuz the Lakers whipped their ass. 4 to 1. Retool!
The Spurs can't hang anymore, they are done... Retool!
This team should be rebuilt. Keep Parker, Duncan, Manu and Thomas and the rest of the team needs to leave. Late.
Team is built around Tony's and Manu's ability to penetrate and score. Spurs need two capable players to fill in if either Tony or Manu goes down.
Manu didn't show up. It's that simple.
Manu's swollen ankle the size of a baseball might have been problematic...
But seriously, the Spurs weren't the better team, at least not this go around. You can come up with any number of excuses, but at the end of the day they weren't good enough in 08.
Easy question
1) Innability to score outside of Duncan, Parker
2) Manu injured/did not show up vs. Lakers
3) Tired old legs due to series vs. Hornets
4) sleeping in plane 2 night before game 1 and thus losing 20+ point lead
5) no-call on crucial play where Barry got fouled
6) Spurs playoff schedule
7) Spurs toughest season schedule in years which meant no home court after round 1
after all those reasons I am shocked Spurs got that far
We didn't win because Manu was injured, and even if he wasn't I believe we would have lost to the Celtics. That team was on a mission. Better for the Lakers to get beat by 40+ pts than us.
This, and the whack scheduling during the WCF really cost us a few critical games that would of given us a real good shot at winning the series.
After that, who knows what would of happened against the Celtics, but I truly believe we would have beaten the Lakers had those 2 things not happened.
The biggest reason didn't even make the poll. As some have noted above, the WCF scheduling, combined with the extremely short turnaround after the semis, which was further abbreviated by the plane fiasco, is what did the Spurs in.
Of course, you gotta play the schedule you're given, and the Spurs could have improved their chances, despite the non-sensical WCF scheduling, by taking care of the Hornets in 5 or 6.
That said, is there any doubt the Spurs hold on to win game 1 of the WCF with a rested squad? And if they'd had an extra day or two off during the WCF, surely they would have been able to win at least one of the other games they led. IMO the Spurs win the WCF in 6 with a more "normal" schedule. Could they beat the Celts even without a healthy Manu? I don't know, but they'd have put up much more of a fight than the Lakers did.
manu was injured then our offense struggled
I think the spurs would have lost to the celtics, pistons, and maybe even the grizzlies. we're lucky gino's ankle held up long enough to get us through the hornets series.
he was our scorer this past season. i can't put him above duncan as far as being our best player, but he's our instant offense (like kobe or pierce).
i think our defense was pretty stout for most of the LA series too. offense was clearly the issue, and that stemmed from not having the big 3 at full strength when it mattered.
without any one of the big three firing on all cylinders, the spurs are not a championship calibre team.
Because of the league wide conspiracy that makes the Spurs lose but doesn't make the Spurs win. It's so obvious.
No rest between series
