He is not a PF !!!! He is 6'7, a natural SF and can play SG easily. I prefer Nocioni over Finley, Vaugh, Hill, Gist, Pargo, and even Booner.

Can you imagine Nocioni as our starting SG,,,,and then Manu coming off the bench ?? thats sick....
Starting:
Tony
Nocioni
Bowen
Duncan
Oberto
Bench:
Hill
Manu (Mason)
Udoka
Thomas
Mahinmi
Or in a final possesion in the 4th quarter, when we need a rush 2 points....... this lineup:
Tony
Manu
Nocioni
Duncan
Oberto

The best part of threads like this is the fact that they alway materialize into reality.
And you can start Nocioni with Bowen but Bruce will be the starting SG.

Although that is the best part, I have to say that the goget'em attitude comes in at a close second. That is the kind of enthusiasm that Spurs Fans need . I say this is an overall A+ thread!
i knew this thread was coming after watching arg. vs cro. i bet evalongoria was watching the game this monan....(hope it was in hdtv)......its alot of fun watching Argentina play, we have two of them on our squad, and we know just about every players name. but dont get to excited, after watching some of the usa vs greece game, id be scared to be anyone playing'um

??? The question should be could we afford him or can trade him? not do we need him or not coz its an upgrade to have him. I dont know if youre aware of Nocioni's scoring ability. His feet was slow, but his job normally is knocking down shots. He played abit D here and there as well. He will be excellent player off the bench, he also is Manu;s teammate and statistically speaking he's okay...its an upgrade to have him. Go review Bulls game previous seasons (not just last season) and then u know what Im talking about...

I dont think he is an upgrade over Udoka. A bit bigger and a better ball handler sure. But we need a guy who can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, finish or draw fouls. I have not seen him do that. In fact, he looks out of his league in the NBA at times.
On a bad team he will put up OK numbers but on a contender, No way. Plus his D will IMO be an even bigger liablity against the glut of tweeners that dog us every yr.
Can you see him having to defend Melo, West, Odom, Dirk or Howard, Durrant or Green, Artest? I would like to see us get ARIZA from LA, they dont need him and will likely lose him to free agency next yr.

If we don't make another upgrade before this season, we will finish 5th or 6th in the improved West and probably get eliminated in the first round. Champions don't play on the road for the entire post-season! Celtics win nadda unless they play at home---agreed? WE need to be the 1 or 2 or 3 seed in the West to get to the finals. The current roster isn't enough to get us there. Argee or Disagree? Nocione would at least give us some Udoka attitude on the court. Hopefully the FO has another move in mind!

i disagree. i think it all hangs on the pargo signing to tell you the truth. he and mason could bring that youth and extra offense we need to get over the hump. not letting it all hang on the BIG 3.
when the offseason started i wasnt in panic mode like most spurs fans were about the roster. i knew a couple of tweeks here and there and well be good to go. also health has a major factor as well.
i agree that our chances with a great SG wing players would improve our chances greatly but it doesnt mean we are in bad shape right now.

actually, it wouldnt take that much. noc is due 8 mil next season, so for the spurs to swing a trade for him, they have to send out at least 6.32 mil in salary. bonner + oberto is enough salary wise. its sending out a package that has enough value to interest chicago thats the issue. they may be willing to move noc if it saves them enough cash, but they probably still would like something of value too.

Making Moves: The Chicago Bulls are still trying to tweak their roster before camps open, notably the Bulls still have made no progress with Ben Gordon and his camp. One NBA source said the hold up with Gordon is simply an unwillingness on Gordon's side to even consider a deal for less than $9 million per season. Bull's sources contend that Chicago has a $60 million package on the table for Gordon, a package they will not consider increasing. It's been suggested that if Gordon is not signed by the start of training camp the Bulls will pull the offer. It's also being suggested that the Bulls are also looking at trade scenarios involving Larry Hughes and/or Andres Nocioni – both players are not considered long-term for the Bulls. In fact, one Bulls source said the Bulls would trade Larry Hughes for almost nothing, simply to clear the roster spot and the long-term salary. Look for Chicago to be active in mid-season trade talks, especially if nothing happens with Ben Gordon before camp opens at the end of September.
I know this a Hoopsworld article, but man we NEED Nocioni :). How serious do you think the Bulls are in offloading him? What do you think they'd be after the most? Expiring contracts to clear cap space? I wonder if the Spurs have contacted Chicago this off season about him.

I think the Bulls are working different scenarios at the same time.
-somehow dump Hughes (more or less impossible)
-trade Nocioni but get some talent in return
-trade Hinrich if it gets them the really needed piece (low post scorer)
-S&T Gordon, depending on what they get back.
they won't do all 4 moves. maybe 2 out of this list. if they look for just cup relieve in Nocioni's case, we would have already seen him traded. his (declining) salary isn't that bad compared to what he delivers.
as we know, our assets look somehow bad. depending on the other moves of the Bulls (in the back court) they might be interested in a player type like Hill, but similar to all of us they can't know if he will ever be a NBA player. Oberto could be somehow interesting for them, next season is only 50% guaranteed (Spurs could send cash to cover this), it's almost an expiring contract. a very smart veteran big like Oberto could find his niche in a minor role in Chicago for some time. maybe the Splitter rights are attractive, if they see a chance to ever bring him over. in general Splitters abilities to score in the paint would fit great with them. maybe they see this ability also in Ian (unlikely). Bonner need to be the filler for the salary match.
I think it's not totally impossible but very unlikely to find a package the Bulls finally want. but or course they should try hard.

Yeah, you are right, the Bulls would have already traded Nocioni if they were looking for expiring contracts. I guess like you said above Nocioni is a player that you should be able to get talent in return for.
I completely forgot about Splitter though. I wonder if the Bulls would be interested in his rights? I think the Bulls would be kicking themselves over not going for Scola if the offer was there last off season.

Given Gordon's current situation I don't think the Bulls are looking to move Hinrich anymore. I'm not even sure S&T'ing Gordon is an option considering how much money he's looking for. Would Gordon really be able to get $70 mil on the open market as an unrestricted free agent?

yes and no. I agree that the Bulls wouldn't want to take back the equivalent of the starting salary of a 70M contract, but there is still the chance of a 3 or 4 teams trade to make this work. it's not that such things don't ever happen.

Man..if we could take everyone on ST and turn them into one person and make that person GM of the spurs we'd have won back to back championships since Duncan was drafted.
But instead we fail to sign Maggette because we didn't have enough money, we were unable to sign Pargo because he went to Europe, we were unable to sign JR Smith becuase of money and the fact he makes bad decisions, we drafted boring old Hill instead of young versions of Josh Howard, and we let Manu Ginobili represent his team in the Olympics. What a shitty, shitty front office.
Can you imagine how good our team would be if ST members were the FO? Pop wouldn't be the coach, we'd have Nocioni, JR Smith, Maggette, Pargo, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Ginobili would have been traded since he is old and broken, Brent Barry would have resigned, not to mention our veteran Allen Houston backing up TP, and we couldve signed Chalmers as a weed buddy for JR smith too.
We'd be so good.
Tony Parker/Allen Houston/Pargo
Ginobili/JR Smith/Barry?
Maggette/Nocioni/Bowen
Duncan/Bonner
Oberto/Thomas
Seriously, how baller of a lineup would that be. Best of all worlds. We add Allen Houston so we still have a really old Finley-esqe player, JR Smith has Chalmers in the same way that Oberto has Ginobili so they don't get lonely, we have Maggette, Nocioni, and Bowen so we can switch between all offense, some offense some defense, all defense. They all compliment each other so well too! Duncan and Oberto are unselfish so there should still be enough shots to go around. We won't have Popovich so JR Smith can still shoot halfcourt 3's and Maggette can dominate the ball as much he wants. Nocioni can hangout with Ginobili and Oberto on the bench. Barry will probably get injured and miss most of the season but whenever we play the Lakers he'll put up 20+ points so will still be worth it.
Sometimes I get sad knowing it will never happen.

Barry will probably get injured and miss most of the season but whenever we play the Lakers he'll put up 20+ points so will still be worth it.
Sometimes I get sad knowing it will never happen.
I like this guy. Last time I got high and played NBA Live I made a player named after myself and was on that team, too!

Re: We need NOCIONI Now !!!!
People overrates Nocioni trade value by a huge margin.
Nocioni a quite big contract and hasn't played well for nearly two years. I highly doubt teams are offering tons of things to Bulls to get him. I'm not even sure Spurs are interested in getting him.
Bulls have offered Nocioni+Simmons+first round pick for Brad Miller and Kings have turned that down. It gives you and idea on how low Nocioni trade value is.

Re: We need NOCIONI Now !!!!
this rejected offer didn't have much to do with the real trade value of Nocioni.
Kings are like many teams getting into position for 2010 when the contracts of Miller, SAR and Thomas expire. they are in position to become a major player in the free agency. Nocioni's contract goes till 2012 and would have cost them significant cap space.
the other point was the pick. (like the whole trade rumor) it has never been confirmed that the Bulls were willing to trow in a 1st rounder. another rumor said that the Bulls did NOT want to add a 1st rounder and just offered a 2nd rounder.
it also not exactly accurate that he didn't play well for two years.
in fact he played a very good season 2006-07 till this plantar fasciitis thing happend and he missed 30 games. he came back for the 07 PO far from healthy and played poor in this POs.
(PF problems: see Duncan, Tim. poor POs bc not healthy: see Ginobili, Manu)
last season he was a bit of a victim of the desater coaching by Scott Skiles, who started to panic after a few weeks and changed his rotations from games to game. Skiles just didn't have any idea how to use Deng, Nocioni, Thomas and Smith at the forward rotation.
the first 2 months under Boylan Nocioni played pretty well and effective again, before the whole Bulls team totally fell apart and turned into one of the leagues worst teams in March. not a single Bulls player played up to his potential in this weeks.
IMO Nocioni is quite worth the money he gets. it's not a bargain contract, but it's far from an albatross. and I also think that he would fit great with the Spurs system. not because of all the Argentinian relations (that's a plus of course), especially he should fit great in a small ball line up alongside Tim.
I would give the Bulls EVERYTHING outside the big 3 if it brings in Nocioni. he isn't overrated, in fact he currently might be a bit underrated and this could be the best chance to somehow get him.

Nocioni, Larry Hughes, and Drew Gooden for Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili might work.

The fact that Bulls made an offer for Nocioni has a lot to do with his "real trade value".
What is important is how Bulls value Nocioni. They obviously don't put a lot of value in him and were ready to trade him with a first round pick in an almost salary dump trade (Miller is old, not that good and Bulls are in rebuilding mode).

Thanks for explaining why Nocioni trade value is quite low. The 2010 free agent class is great and a lot of teams want to have cap space that summer. It makes the market for Nocioni smaller if I've well understood capitalism, it lowers his value.
Chicago is also among these teams that want cap space in 2010 and that's a reason why they are trying to trade Nocioni for player(s) with short term contract(s).

I trust the source saying that a first round pick was offered and even with only a second round pick, Nocioni has still a low trade value.

I've said nearly two years. Nocioni hasn't played well since January 2007.

Agree, Nocioni will be at his best as small ball PF.

That's like saying that you prefer dogshit over catshit, cowshit and horseshit. Shit is shit. And he wouldn't take the Spurs where they need to go. Someone with much more substance is required to boost the wilting Spurs.

I "love" Nocioni and I would like to see him with a Spurs jersey.
