Dragic to sign with Suns
http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archiv..._after_buyout/
The Phoenix Suns will get their man after all.
After trying to sign European point guard Goran Dragic all off-season, with most believing the efforts a long shot at best because of Dragic's buyout situation, the Arizona Republic is reporting that a buyout with Tau Ceramica has been reached and that Dragic is en route to Phoenix to sign a contract to play for the Suns this season.
Once he arrives, Dragic will sign a four year contract with the Suns, with the last year being a team option.
Phoenix has been high on the point guard ever since acquiring the second rounder for $500,000 in the June NBA Draft. They see Dragic as an immediate backup for Steve Nash, and potential future replacement.
The Suns considered the idea of drafting Dragic with their 15th overall pick in June if Robin Lopez, their eventual first-round pick, was not available. They ranked Dragic second only to the top overall pick, Chicago's Derrick Rose, among all point guards in the draft.
"From Day 1, he wanted to end up with Phoenix," said Rade Filipovich, Dragic's agent. "It was very important for us to put him with the team this year.
"He's very excited. People in Phoenix are going to be very happy. He's going to be a very good player for several years. The Suns fans are getting an excellent player and should be very excited because he's playing great basketball and he's a great young man."

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
I wonder how it is possible that Dragic buyout his 3 years contract, and none of Tau`s Spurs didn`t ?
Spurs traded him because he wasn`t going to NBA ?? :bang
-
Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
Because the spurs front office are a bunch of cheap ass mother fuckers...you didn't know that?

For a Rockets fan, you sure do spend a lot of time obsessing about the Spurs, Louis.

Dragic had only one year left on his contract.
I don't know if this is true though, still nothing in Slovenian media. If it is, I'm not sure if it's good for him, I think he needed one more year in Europe.

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
-
Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
This is true.
Tau let him fly to Phoenix to have physical tests and negociate with the Suns.
The problem was that Tau was asking 2M for the buyout. With Phoenix offering 3 or 4 years, Dragic will pay the difference with what the suns were willing to pay.
-
Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
National media is reporting that it's a done deal.
1.5 mio buyout. Will have 2mio pay in the first year, to help him with the buyout.

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
The Spurs are no fun if they aren't going to take risks!
Absolutely no balls in having guys like Van Exel play over building talent like Beno Udrih.
Absolutely no balls by not sigining Scola just to unload a crappy player like Butler.
Absolutley no balls by not negotiating with Splitter to get him in the NBA. Now both Scola and Dragic from Tau are in the NBA because the other teams are willing to make the commitment.
We are being hoodwinked by our rivals (Suns and Rockets) because we are all too conservative!
The best we should do now is give our youth playing time. None of this B.S. of playing Finley for 23 minutes a game!

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
This is bad news for the Spurs. Dragic showed multiple times in international play that he can stay in front of Parker. Outside of Devin Harris, not to many other people in the world can say that.
-
Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
TAU give Scola to Rockets and Dragic to Suns but they will never give Scola to Spurs or Splitter either. And Spurs is believe never Dragic either.
Does TAU managers hate Spurs?

I think you are overrating his defense. Don't get me wrong, his defense is good, but not that good to take Parker out. I watched Arroyo destroy him, about month ago, so he has his weaknesses and limitations. He is a rookie for gods sake. He will find himself in all sorts of trouble this year and his learning curve will have to be steep as hell, if he is to be a successful NBA guard.
Parker will be OK, book it!

He played REALLY WELL in a couple of games against Parker.
In 1 game he basically shut him down. (i never seen Parker more frustrated than then)
But yeah... he is a rookie and wonīt do miracles like Suns organisation&fans expect.
He will be a diferent PG than Nash is. Nash is superb in offense and Dragic is a way better defensive player. He also hustles, rebounds and is not afraid of contact.
He has a really high ceiling imo. (like some other lazy Slovenian PG...)
Letīs hope he is going to reach it.
But I do not think Spurs should be afraid of Suns as a serious competition.
Shaq will probably break down by christmas.

I really don't understand how or why Tau agreed to allow Dragic to leave. Did they not think as highly of him as they did Splitter, whom they desparately wanted to retain?
Furthermore, if Dragic is so fucking good, why didn't the Spurs simply keep him for themselves? What do the Spurs see in Hill that they rate him so much better than Dragic? Or was it Dragic's contractual situation that made him such a perceived risk?
It's frustrating to see several of the Spurs chief rivals fortify their rosters, while the Spurs either give away talent for pennies on the dollar (Scola) or lose out on prime Euro prospects (Splitter, Jaktovas) because of international economics or bad blood between management teams.

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
Very happy for Goran. He is one of my favorites and will surprise NBA fans who have never seen him play because he can be tenacious. His shot has improved, too.
This is the second instance that I know of in the past 2 off-seasons where an NBA team helped a player secure a buy-out of a contract when no buy-out was even in the contract. It also was made possible, of course, because they used a second round pick on him.
The situation with Splitter was created because of the limit of the amount the Spurs could spend on him because of where they drafted him. It is kind of ironic-- because of their problems negotiating with Scola, the Spurs decided to use a first round pick to secure a specific salary amount that could not be negotiated. Then it bit them in the butt because the player simply did not accept that amount then.

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
Hmm, not really.
Don't get me wrong, Dragic has potential, however he is not NBA ready at all. He shouldn't have problems on the defensive end (he is quick, agile...) however he offence is not there - especially for NBA standards.
He may end in the NBDA before new year. I hope he proves me wrong.
Go Dragic, go!

Uhh...his grandfather was the one who founded Caterpillar, hence the name Holt Caterpillar...here's a little info..
Holt Caterpillar Tractor
More about:
The first practical demonstration of this tractor took place in a peat field on Roberts Island on November 24, 1904, and was patented and in production by December of 1907. The existing machine represents the earliest gasoline-powered track-type tractors that were to help revolutionize agriculture, logging, construction, road building, and transportation around the world. Its design and development is credited to Benjamin Holt (1849-1920), president of the Holt Manufacturing Company of Stockton.

Now that makes me wonder, who is better George Hill or Dragic?
Dragic has got some pretty impressive ball handling skills (based on the videos I watched), seems to be ambidextrous too. He however looks too thin too be a NBA player.
Hill however is extremely atheletic, however his ball handling skills aren't that great nor is his ability to slash the lane.
So who did we trade the rights to Dragic? Malik Hairston??! :-(

I need both Sho and Beno to get moved to Orlando with Hedo and then I can delete the Pacers and Kings logos. :lol
I kept the Raptors one because I like Jose Calderon and the Mango tree is for our dearly departed from our team Brent Barry. :)

In case you haven't noticed, when European players come to the NBA, their defense almost always gets better -- not worse. Like I've said, I've seen Dragic stay in front of Parker. No matter where that occurs, that is definitely noteworthy. I'm not sure that five players on the planet can claim that.
Hopefully Dragic takes some time to transition and Parker has improved ... but this is definitely not good news for the Spurs.

You must have missed our discussion. My bet was based upon the stipulation that Rasho had to be on the Raptors still on June 30, 2008. "Technically" he was but the trade to the Pacers had been agreed to in principle clearly before that date. In addition, I posted in April that Rasho would be picking up his player option in order to play for Slovenia this summer due to the July scheduling of the Olympic qualifier tournament games. Timvp let me off the hook, especially considering that my punishment was a sig that said "I love Jackie Butler" and Timvp was so wrong about him.

Yeah, isn't that a real cause to worry.
That's 2 players now that other NBA teams have negotiated with Tau to be released.
The least the R.C. can do to redeem himself from the Scola is to at least bring in Splitter.
It's downright embarrasing for us to be hoodwinked twice by two other NBA teams. The Suns trade up for us and grab Dragic, they didn't that once before and we gave away Barbosa.
The Rockets are also toying around with our front office.

True, timvp won the bet. Luckily for you I usually don't cash in my bets. I think there are about a good half dozen posters who owe me either cash, sigs or titles for losing bets. I just let you join the club.

The reason that was the bet was because you hated Butler for "replacing" Rasho. Not for his superstar talent.

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
Why is this in the Spurs forum?
It's irrelevant to the Spurs - the trade was made before the pick. If the Spurs wanted Dragic, they would have pick him.
I moved 3 Dragic threads to the NBA forum yesterday. You'd think this guy was Jordan. :lmao

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
I like the way Drgic plays, he plays with a lot of heart.
However, calling it a bad news from Spurs is quite a reach. From what I've seen of him, Dragic isn't a great prospect or a player able to have an impact in his rookie year. His offensive game is very underdeveloped.

Pop needs to be called out for this as well. Everyone here loves to treat the guy with kid gloves. He's just as involved in our personnel decisions as R.C.
And whoever you want to blame, the fact is this is another black eye for what's been a pretty shitty summer for the Spurs FO.
I guess all that's left to do is re-sign Horry and they can make this summer's failure complete.

Re: Dragic to sign with Suns
The Suns, having added both Lopez and Dragic via the draft, are now building a roster to help them become a better defensive team. With Kerr and Porter running the show, this is quite a departure from their offensive-only mindset under D'Antoni.
Depending how these two pan out, they could be significant building blocks needed to help them challenge the Spurs and Fakers for supremacy in the West over the next few years.

Dragic May Not Sign Until September
Goran Dragic may not sign a contract with the Suns until September, according to The Arizona Republic.
Phoenix is expected to give Dragic, a second-round pick, a contract worth lottery-type money.
His physical will be done Tuesday, but Dragic may not sign right away because of financial obligations he must meet with Tau Ceramica, his Spanish club.
