Re: Its On - USA v Argentina - AKA Whottttttttttt does Argentina
Props to Argentina they played a good effort w/o Manu. Hope he gets better.
I was expecting to USA to win, but win by a close amount instead of 20, more like 5-10, but under extenuating circumstances Arg needed to fill Manu's 20 point void and they couldn't.

I might have talked smack in this thread, but the game was on the line. I'm not Argentine or American, but I chose to go for Argentina cause I like their players better. I just don't like half the players that were on the US team so I did not want to go for them. Had Tim Duncan been on the team it may have been a different story.
Anyway, good game from USA. The US was definitely the better team last night.

Re: Its On - USA v Argentina - AKA Whottttttttttt does Argentina
Just wanted to drop by an congratulate the US on kicking our ass. There is no doubt this US team is the best in the world right now, by a freaking mile. Not that you couldn't tell that on paper. Shit, the bench is probably the second best team in the world right now :lol
To all the devious motherfuckers in this thread bating the shit out of my Argie brethren, I must admit, shit talking is your forte. I guess its the practice afforded by having to talk smack with overconfident Suns, Mavs, Laker trolls around here, that has allowed the honing of said skill. Having said that, a big belated FUCK YOU is in order here :lol
I'm damn proud of this Argentine squad. There isn't a damn thing we can complain about what they've done. This time around we just simply got outplayed by the best, no shame in that. I fucking hate that Manu had to get injured though...

Even though im not American, thats pretty classy considering you had every right to put an asterix next to the win since your best player missed the entire game. And deep down i know you feel that way :lol.
But good stuff.
Scola > Manu

Oh and saying Team USA is about money when Argentina was just saved by Carlos Delfino ... a guy who just signed in Nowhere, Russia solely for the money. Not to mention Scola, who complained about money for half a decade before coming to the NBA.
Argentina doesn't have innocence any longer. They are as Americanized as the Americans.
Wrong. Someone like Paolo Quinteros or Porta got injured during the Olympics, and they would have problems feeding their families, and not in the Latrell Sprewell sense.
Kobe could retire from basketball right now and would still be a millonaire weel into his sixties.
Argentina has VISA and their chest because they need that money to run the Argentinian Basketball Confederation. Team USA is an offshot of the NBA profits, they don't need any endorsments to function.
Most of you don't have any idea of the kind of conditions that most of the Argentinian players had to endure early in their careers to be able to progress. Some might say "yeah, but Melo is from tha hood". Let me tell you being in a "hood" in the US is paradise compared to the problems some of the Argentinian players had to face when they were 11 to 20 years old.

I agree overall with the good guys part, except for Carmelo Anthony. This guy has no place in that team and it's a shame that such an asshole has a gold medal hanging from his chest.

But don't act like the US players don't have heart, desire and care about winning just as much as the Argentinian players. Just because they're more talanted doesn't mean they lack heart or chemistry.
Lol. Angry much, Iraqi Information Minister?

No prestige, no respect, and damn sure no money...is that the way it works in Poland and Argentina with their Olympic Basketball players?
Tell me again who is doing this more for material(and otherwise) gain? Truely, all the NBA players are getting out of this is a gold medal...and literally nothing else. Not even good will from their countrymen...
Manu has made his money playing for the Spurs and his biggest endorsments are from Nike, Gatorade, Time Warner...spot a trend there? Did he sign those because of the 2004 Olympics?

Re: Its On - USA v Argentina - AKA Whottttttttttt does Argentina
Anyway, congrats to the US, you won fair and square, there were some questionable calls, but when the difference is 20 points, there are no excuses, you were more talented. This time, you actually played like a team and were good winners (except for Melo, complete asshole).
I'm so fucking proud of this Argentina team. With Manu down, they man up and make it a game against the USA and then go and beat the shit out of Lithuania. This is a suitable ending for this generation. Every tournament they have played since 2001, they have finished in one of the top 4 spots. Against Lithuania it was all there, ball movement, teamwork, defense...
What best represented their spirit was that moment when Nocioni, limping on one leg, fought for a rebound over Javtokas, then ran after the loose ball, dived on his head to the floor, and then Delfino dived too. One can only be thankful for those guys who could stay home and enjoy their millions and instead they gave it all for a medal.

I guess it's Argentina's turn to say "Imagine how good a game we might have had if both teams had had all their players."

Tim wasn't getting called for fouls in that one game, it was on a consistent basis in which Tim was getting called for fouls like crazy, it must have been something he was doing for a variety of refs to call fouls on him for every single game.

Yes, what he was doing was was being the best player in the world at the time.

I'm sure you are aware of the differences in FIBA rules. It's not just court length, time, etc. They look at the game from a different perspective. Duncan couldn't seem to make that adjustment. It's like everybody says here: Playing good internationally doesn't translate to being good in the NBA and vice versa.
There maybe an aspect or two that some people have a hard time adjusting to and since the olympics are too short, maybe TD couldn't have adjusted. Also, TD not playing wasn't the reason Team USA sucked that year.

He was hand checking them when they (players) were on a drive (move).
Tim likes to have slight contact with opponent in that kind of situations.
It was interpreted as foul, Tim did not adjusted much during the tournament. Well he was more passive on D on some occasions.
That is it
