Spurs fans will also be happy ;) to learn that TP is taking the French NT very seriously. He has decided to be the leader of the team with an Olympic medal in 2012 as goal.
He has accepted to be captain of the team for the first time since 2003 and is stressing that players should play together each summer.
Expect TP to play each summer until 2012 with the French NT. :elephant
:pctoss
Got damn I hate international basketball. The French team is never going to do win crap. Besides TP, the other players are all varying degrees of suck. Plus the French somehow play even less FIBA style than the Americans. If you ever want to see one-pass-and-shoot, watch the French play basketball. The times I've watched them play, if Parker passes he never gets the ball back.
The only thing worse than French doctors might be French coaches . . .
I hate to say that but you're right on this one.
They were painfull to watch in the last euro, and still almost made it to the olympics if not for a shitty finish vs future winner Russia.
Which makes me hope that with a real system and a real coach they may achieve something.
French fed shoud hire a god damn f***ing serbian coach to teach those guys how to play team ball.
What is Pop doing during summers ?
:td
Sorry but that's plain wrong.
Aside of the "old" players like Parker, Diaw, Pietrus or Turiaf, there is a lot of young players who could be very good in a two or three years. While French NT has been huge disaster lately, the talent is there and this team could be very strong in three or four years for the Olympics.
The Spurs shouldn't draft an international player ever again and relief it's fans from this anguish.
Are you psychic? If not, you should probably wait before you declare me wrong.
Are you talking about the Pietrus who doesn't play on the French NT because he lacks fundamentals or the Pietrus who is a below average summer league player? Parker is good but none of those other three have games conducive to FIBA rules. Diaw is the closest but everyone now knows you just beat him up and he eventually disappears.
Talent isn't the problem. The problem is the coaching somehow doesn't tell the team that it is okay to pass more than once in a half court set. Plus outside shooting has been a major weakness. I don't know of any deadeye shooters in the French pipeline.
Batum, Noah, Ajinca, Mahinmi, De Culo and the other young French players look promising ... but more NBA than FIBA.
Meh, don't buy it. We'll see, I guess. France basketball reminds me of Team USA in 2002 ... except without as much talent.
Plus with the shady doctors and the ultimatum happy coaches, France might burn all bridges with NBA teams by 2012.
FIBA rules will change before 2012, they will be closer to NBA's ones.
Fixing coaching is light year easier than fixing lack of talent. The lack of half court set is also a result of a lack of scoring bigs. Mahinmi could fix that (finger crossed).
Abdoulaye MBaye, Nando De Colo, Edwin Jackson and Rodrigue Beaubois are good shooters. None is great for the moment but the upside is there. And aside Beaubois, they are SG, French NT weakest spot for years.
The fact that the three point line will be further will make the FIBA games less 3 point shooting dependent.
De Colo is more FIBA than NBA. He is an quite unathletic undersized SG.
I don't even know if he will go in NBA given that a Russian team has still offer $500K to his team in France to get him.
French doctors >>>>>>>>>>> Spurs doctors.
Diaw can be good in fiba basket ball, he always have been better than tp (except last summer).Quote:

I was excited a few years back by french NT's potential with Parker, Diaw, Pietrus and the young prospects who entered the NBA (Moiso, Petro, Gelabale).
But you have to admit today that this generation didn't prove itself and has been disapointing so far.
I'm more optimistic about the younger one (Batum, Ajinca...) which is very skilled.
Parker is the best!...:toast
three questions...
1) why so happy about TP playing in the offseason if last time he did he got injured and forced Manu to extent himself physically in the regular season to then collapse in the playoffs with visible results last year?
2) if you already saw what happened to Manu in the olympics what is making you so happy about risking TP's health for playing for the National Team? If TP keeps playing until 2012 there is NO WAY Manu will miss the world cup in Turkey (i do love that TP is getting what National Pride is all about :))
3) is Ian Mahimni on the roster?
Here goes.....I could careless who TP is playing for right now. If TP isnt in a spurs uniform then the only thing i care about is his health. We already have one of our big 3 hurt. What happens if TP gets hurt. Ill tell you what happens. The same amount of people who goto Rampage and Silver Stars games. Thats what happens. I remember the days of 5-7 thousand fans showing up to Spurs games. Im not for repeating history when it comes to the Spurs. This is no different then when a starter gets caught playing a pickup game during his rehab. (greg oden) Plain dumb in my book. If the season doesnt start soon, our big 2 might not be playing. And you cant say i got something against the french, cos my wife is french.
First, I'm not "so happy" the pink elephant was there to tease people. I take Spurs' winning a ring over French NT winning an Olympic medal (even the gold one). However, I respect Parker's choice and I will enjoy watching him play during summers.
Second, your question is incredibly lame. I hope it was a joke and if it wasn't, shame on you and I hope you will realize the stupidity and the lameness of your question.
Is it still a joke ?
You are now saying that Manu instead of analyzing if his body can allow him to play during summers and if he still wants to play for Argentina NT, will be childish and say to himself "If Tony plays for his NT, I will play for mine." ?
Mahinmi isn't on the roster this year. He was selected but he and/or Spurs have turned down the selection.
And what happens if TP gets hurt in one of the 100 games he will play with Spurs this season ?
And what happens if TP gets hurt in the pre-season games he will play with Spurs ?
And what happens if TP gets hurt in climbing the stairs of his house ?
Come on, he will play 3 games with France, i think he can do that without destroying his career.
For some husbands, it is a good reason to hate french ! :p:
I am proud of TP for choosing to contribute to the NT team as well and I hope he takes them to the next level. I am also not making him guilty of Manu not being able to get to the off season 100% due to his early season injury.
BUT i did buy the elephant was a shown of happiness. my wishes for TP are the best and i just hope for him to come out of this one in his best shape ever. If he goes down as well there won;t be any playoffs next year (there is where i am worried since both of them are equally important to the team) when one is down the other steps up with both down we'd be in BIG trouble
Sorry... :yield the question would make more sense if being directed to ducks... :devil
Well... it is always the players choice but the FO knows their power of trying to convince him lowers with TP going at it EVERY offseason as it seems he will.
I am not questions that TP's body endurance is WAY higher than Manu's but still it won;t be positive for the Spurs showing they can't stop their players from representing their NT that's all
I wonder why... :stirpot:
It is obvious your not a Spurs Fan at all. When's the last time you went to a game? When did you become a Spurs Fan? And your comment about my wife, i cant argue that one :lol (A wife is a wife no matter where she's from). Then again a wife isnt a wife until you've been married over 23 years. Oh and enjoy my ignore list, where mickey mouse and non Spurs Fans go. :wow
I don't think there will be a lot of negotiations between Manu and Spurs.
In 2009, Argentina NT will play the Americas championship. There are few incentives for Manu to play it.
If Manu hasn't signed an extension with Spurs, he will be a FA in 2010. Teams won't have leverage on Manu. It will be up to Manu to say that he will only sign with a team that let him play the WC.
If Manu has sign an extension with Spurs before the 2010 summer and given Manu's age and durability, I don't see Spurs giving an extension for Manu without knowing exactly what are his plans with the NT.
He doesn't play qualifiers anymore :wakeup and ofcourse next one won;t be an exemption never thought about this upcoming tournament...
I don't think he will ever bring that up for negotiations and you sound like you are predicting if he will be completely useless by 2010... i am not so sure about that but you could be right though... time will tell...
The Spurs know that eventually Manu will play a last tournament with the NT and i think the target is Turkey... they have known all this from day one and despite the extension wasn;t done already supposedly due to him playing the Team HAS NO RIGHT of using that as a negotiation factor in a contract :lol
back on Topic how many assist and steals is TP averaging :)
You are just stupid. Tell me 1 thing i said in my post that indicates you i am not a Spurs fan.
I live in France, but i watch all the games except maybe 6 or 7... every years.
Injuries happen.
Tony will play 3 games with France.
Tony will play about 100 games with Spurs.
So why the fans are so paranoid with injuries ?
If tony gets hurt playing basketball, it could be with France (3%) or Spurs (97%).
He will play 3 games with France, it's not a big deal.
Stop thinking that the absolute worst is going to happen ...
And now imagine spurs would have signed Tiago...:elephant
As long as the other team is not coached by Phil Jackson, TP will be fine
Almost all basketball players are going to play in the summer-- if it's not in organized games in europe or elsewhere, it'll be in pick up games, or celebrity And 1/Rucker park-type events where showboating and entertaining moves are expected... either way, there will always be the chance of injuries. Some coaches have come out and said they'd rather see players in organized games rather than in the more chaotic and risky pick up situations. Jordan always used the summers to focus on specific things, like perimeter shooting, left handed shots around the rim, etc. Either way, you are not going to stop players from playing, and aside from sitting out to let injuries heal, it's probably preferable to have them play a little in the summer to keep them sharper-- and, besides, doesn't it seem odd to tell a professional basketball player that he is forbidden for two months to play.... basketball?
