My mom's intelligence was completely underrated, as was her ruthlessness to those who dared to cross her -- except among those she crushed. She gave a really good interview as well. Never tried to pretend she was something she wasn't or knew something she didn't.

Academically, I know Palin is smarter than my mom was. Mom could barely do simple math, struggled in history and sciences, but had a firm grip on English (she was an English major her only semester at SAC).
My mom was much wiser than Palin seems to be, though. She had an understanding of how people work and what people want and need that was amazing. She could manipulate just about anyone.
