Why did so many of us (whites) dedicate so much time, money and energy over the past two years campaigning for Obama. He said he was intrigued by the notion. You are simply saying it is true, therefore it is true, rather than explaining why it is true.
I think it is crazy. You go to Europe - Swedish people and Italians look different, speak a different language, have vastly different cultures, etc... Yet in America it is just assumed that white people=white.
But when it comes to notions of race and mixed-race, Europeans are generally flabbergasted by our focue on the notion of labelling someone based on skin color.
The problem is compartmentalization - people are individuals, and it seems that all sides continually re-inforce the notion of their allegiance to a racial, religious, or ethnic group in a way that forces them apart from their shared humanity with others.

The fact that lots of people are wrong about something does not turn it into a fact. In the 1490s, most Europeans thought Cuba and the Dominican Republic were islands off of a landmass that was connected to Asia.

You are looking at Europe through some very rose-colored glasses and is probably based on Europe back when individual countries like Sweden were completely homogenized. (nothing impressive about a society saying they don't have racial problems when they only have one race) There are major racial and ethnic tensions throughout Europe, frequent riots, and people of color suffer widespread discrimination and harassment. Look it up. (And yes, this has even become a problem in Sweden.)

The tediousness of racial identification, that is non existent in realistic aspects. What kills me is that we go through great lengths to specify most things in this world, put an exact tag on it, but when it comes to man, well a broad brush is sufficient. Get real, seriously.

The only time Obama is "Black" is when the lights go out, we're all black when the lights go out. Aside from that he is bi-racial or mulatto. I find it hilarious that in general bi-racial people get a lot of flack from the black community yet they are quick to claim Obama as one of their own. So in effect he is the first bi-racial or mulatto elected president. Here is a video for your enjoyment.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with this. There have been numerous events in Europe that have shown Europeans to have LARGE racist contingents just like in America. The most notable reference I can think of:
It's true that I first thought of the futbol world, where beer and the fan-based competitiveness may fuel such acts, but the fact remains that it is still there, and prevalent.

If Barack Obama, BARACK HUSSIEN OBAMA, was walking down the street as a regular joe and asked anybody, white, black, mexican, whoever, what his ethnicity was, NONE of them will say that he is a white guy. Over 90% would say he is a black man.
Black people in America is a mixed bunch for people of color, not just African Americans that gets thrown into that category so Barack Obama inlcuding myself are black folks.

The answer to this question is so extensive and complex, most people would rather just give you a clue and hope you figure out the rest (I.E. Spurminator)
First of all, I understand where you are coming from. In an ideal world, race shouldn't matter.
Reality however, is not ideal, and racial discrimination is very real. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the black minority of America feels better represented by a black man, someone that is more likely to have lived their discrimination first hand, than by a white man. It doesn't really matter if it turns out to be true, the fact of the matter is it happens. Its not about whether or not it SHOULD matter (it shouldn't), but that it does.
Plus, anyone that knows anything understood that if there ever was a black president, the issue of race is something that would be unavoidable, as indeed it was in this campaign.
Now, just knowing about the history of the US should be enough to make you understand how momentous an occasion we're living here. To have a black president elected just 50 some odd years removed from Brown v. Board of education?? That is light speed social evolution man! Its something to be extremely proud of. Hell, I'm not American and I'm proud of your achievement as a fellow human being.

Re: Obama has received more threats than any other president-elect, authorities say.
As a news story or a sociological study, the election of Obama is interesting for many reasons. I'll give you one: the USA was behind the curve in terms of making slavery illegal-- countries like England and France made slavery illegal before the US did, and there are many examples of Europeans actually making fun of the American revolution and the jeffersonian concept of "freedom," calling it absurd and clueless for a country with legal slavery to be shouting loudly for freedom and the pursuit of happiness for all people, but then not counting people of color as actual people. So for this same country to elect a racially mixed leader at an earlier point in time than any of those European countries (especially those that were so influential to Jefferson's philosophies) is a very unique and surprising development in world history.

This sums up another aspect of it. It has been a while since the entire earth has looked to the US as an undeniable leader and innovator... for a racially divided world, the election of a racially mixed person to the position of President of the United States is the most original thing that has happened since the original moon landing. Even avowed enemies have to shake their heads in wonder and admit that this election has dismissed many long-held criticisms of this country.

Thank you. I understand the situation a bit better now.
However, I am not quite as impressed as you are. The fact remains that many either voted or did not vote for him simply because of his race. This is nothing short of retarded.

he did play the race card, but politicians don't deserve death threats. especially our President Elect. that's simply going to get you in jail. it's stupid and pointless. if you disagree with him like me, fine, but he's our President, so we gotta deal with what we got. There will be no "He's not my President" bullshit from me, ala GWB.

Black people in America is a mixed bunch for people of color, not just African Americans that gets thrown into that category so Barack Obama inlcuding myself are black folks.
Also if you wanna get legal about it, you determine your ethnicity by who your father is anyway.
Reality with knowledge? Or do you mean to replace what supposedly is with what should be? Even the Spanish do a better job with racial identification, so it's not like the world doesn't see this, and even if it didn't it still wouldn't be right.
Are you in agreement with this form of identification? DO you think it's just to be thrown into a mass category, while others have their specifications? There is no fairness there.
I don't care what the common Joe has to say about this, because the common Joe isn't mixed. The common Joe most often could care less. This isn't an issue that is going to just go away either, the population of mixed people is only going to increase.
So, the law is right no matter what? Even if what you say is law, doesn't mean it is correct. If the law says you should be a slave, would you agree with this law? If the law impedes in anyway upon your freedoms would you still agree with it?
It sounds like you are going along to get along.

We can say what it is supposed to be all day but will that change reality at the moment? Like for example we can say players of a certian basketball team have great stats and pull in great numbers. With stats like that, they should win the next freakin championship. But is that championship really a reality? Not really because there are many other factors that could hinder a championship run.
And we sure do got a lot of factors here in America.

Honestly, Im ok with the identification because I've been treated as a person that is in the mass category. Its been ingrained into me since childhood. Thats basic human survival instinct too. You stick with your group.
Even if bi-racial people did have their own specifications, they still will be thrown into the mass category and possibly treated as such. Some people think Barbosa from the Suns is black but hes not! He's freakin Brazilian.

Yeah no doubt it will increase. I agree with you there. Until then maybe thats when things will change.

Your comparison is kind of extreme because I won't go to jail for putting down different ethniticies on applications. I do that all the time. It's not really impeding on my freedoms.
I understand what you are saying though but this whole race thing is more of a social thing than a law thing. I mean shit, back in those slave days Im sure white people thought owning a slave was not entirely a good thing but society at the time deemed it acceptable.

But, Creepn, it seems to me that you believe that identifying reality is the same thing as justification. Giving into the system as it stands is what SLOWS the positive progress of history. If no one is willing to buck "reality" and attempt a stand based on ideology/knowledge/philosophy, then all the idealists will simply become realists (and in many cases, cynics) and be in perfect place to quash all the future generations of idealists into becoming like themselves, etc....
Going along to get along is saying, "I'm not sure the world will ever get better, so why even try". A self-fulfilling prophecy.

That's pretty inspiring but I wouldnt even know where to start. What would be the official name for bi-racial people? Certianly not mutt or half-breed or half-afros as another certian poster put it.
"Bi-Racial"? No. Thats like saying "My name is Name.".

My point is that there shouldn't be an official OR un-official name. The idea is to progress towards a society free of labels and necessary allegiance to cliques and such. At least, that is my idea.

See, you already completely missed the gist of my earlier comment. You've given in. I guess it is easier to give in than go against the current, but not more admirable.

The problem is those were just from right wing nuts. Trumps got to worry about the New World Order Globalist Illuminati going after him.
