Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Sean was great last night. The mention of Rose was very ballsy. I am glad he said it!!
I think AJ's number should be retired.... But only one of them. The whole ceremony was very moving, and of course classy. I expected no less from the organization. San Antonio really does have the best fans in the world.

Sounds to me that they must have forgot to cut off the beer sales at the proper time.

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
I liked it when Kerr said that Pop's suit should be retired and hung on the rafters. :)
I think when all is said and done, they need to name the arena or a street after Pop, because he was a huge part of putting the franchise on the map

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
How about naming a soft drink after him?

brilliant!

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
pop wont want to get recognized for anything.
When pop retires, itll be quiet, without fanfare, and without a retirement ceremony.
Fans will be ok with it too, the stupid fans in this town are still pissed at him for Bob HIll, Malik Rose, and whatever else.
-
Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Pop had nothing to do with Rose's trade. It was all front office.

Popatop? :lol

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Id say Pop had a hand in it, basketball wise though, not personally.
Once again Jim, thats not ME thinking that, its the all intelligent Spurs fans in san antonio that think that.
-
Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
I would say, Pop reluctantly agreed.
But to make my point, has Pop ever ever made a trade in midseason?
No, especially a team that is #1 in the league and relies of team chemistry perhaps more than any championship team in the history of bball.
Taking a chance to hurt team chemistry is a huge gamble and nobody can ever say that Pop is considered a gambling man, am I right?
-
Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Pop isn't a gamling man, but, he saw the benefits of the trade outweighed the negatives.
Back to Sean.
Im amazed he didn't start ballin..
Also, cool comments by him about Pop and Peter Holt.
Maybe those comments could shed some light on how nice of guys those guys are.

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Whoever it was on a previous thread that said they would probably play "simply the best" last night....Nailed it!!!!

They play that at every retirement ceremony. I was at DRob's and they played it then.

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Avery Johnson was a nice guard with a very animated perspective on what works and what doesn't. If he was as good as the audience there last night thought, he wouldn't have played for every Western team in the NBA, nor would the Spurs have thought of trading him or cutting him. I agree, if the Spurs hang his jersey up, it's "Katy Bar the Door!" Everyone's jersey will be up there

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
they played his taco cabana commercial....so i was satisfied....missed having malik at the ceremony though.....Good to have #32 up there....he deserved it, and so does avery.
-
Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Having the TC commercial played was fucking classic.
The crowd kept asking him to say it, but alas, Sean did not want to.
-
Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
My favorite Sean TC commercial was the radio ad he did right after returning from Detroit.
"What was the worst part of being in Detroit? The cold? The snow? The people? No...THEY HAD NO TACO CABANAS!" :lol
-
Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Thought it was solid of both Tony and Manu to wear #32 jerseys to the ceremony. Neither played with Sean, but both respected the man and the event by wearing his jersey.
It seems to me that they both get it.

Kori, why would anyone not like AJ?
I do not understand that at all? Help me out here, I am really trying to figure this out. Are you privy to some inside info that I am not aware of?

Count me in as one who believes Avery's number shouldn't be hanging, just an opinion.

duh...with a name like you have, I can see why you do not want to have a 3rd PG's number up there.

I was just trying to say that I'm not an AJ-lover. I just don't have much attachment to the players that were here prior to me really liking the Spurs.

Oh, I thought you were just trying to push timvp's button.

Re: Elliott Retirement Ceremony
Not really related to the current conversation, but this is a very nice picture. I was there when they were taking these pictures at halftime. It was great to be in the room with these five, along with Kerr, Peter Holt, Governor Perry, etc.
