Spurs-Killers are gone
No Devin Harris, Diop and Jerry Brickhouse.
Maybe Jerry is playing but not the same old Stackhouse.
Believe me, Stackhouse is always plays his best basketball before when playing against the spurs especially in that 2006 series. He's fade away was automatic vs. spurs(i don't know why).
Go SPURS Go! :flag:

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
You keep thinking all that, sweetie.

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
We shoulda traded Dirk for Kidd instead of Harris/Diop, that way we would match up better w/ the Spurs.

ummm that would make it easier for spurs without a fast big man.

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Spurstalk deems Devin Harris as Oscar Robertson and Diop as Bill Russell

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
This series is all about Josh Howard...if he plays ala 2006 form, Dallas is insanely dangerous. If he plays like the last 2 seasons, Spurs will win

I would rather to see him getting wasted by Bowen than watch him sucking in the postseason against the spurs. :bang

Dude those guys seriously messed us up because they made the matchups so tough. Devin Harris had about 50 layups in the only blowout game in 2006, and Diop had a huge talent for giving Timmy fits. In fact it was Diop's defense in overtime of Game 7 that won it for you guys. They were both a nightmare for us.

I think Stack is still injured. Mavs fans, will he play?

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
No Stack....thank God. He makes Finley's speed look like Tony Parker's

After Duncan went to town on him to the tune of 32 PPG on +50% shooting. Tim played about 40 minutes a night and carried the team, he just ran out of gas in Overtime. Having said that, Diop defended Timmy as well as any other big man. If Duncan is on, he can get Dampier into foul trouble pretty quick - and that leaves Ryan Hollins and Bass to defend Timmy - neither who have a chance.
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
I'd put money that if given the chance, Ryan Hollins will be a lot more productive on the defensive end and glass than yall think he will be.
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Yeah it's good to see them gone especiallly harris. I don't get why so many even on this Spurs board are so worried about dallas. Their playing well now but it's the playoffs they'll choke like always. And we're just better than them all our injuries and we still finish ahead of them. They've never been better than us we got hosed in 06 as Manu did not foul on that 3-point play. Why the worry? Fuck the mavs!
-

Hollins>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Diop

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
that Dirk play still makes me mad.
Anyway, Dirk is the real problem for the Spurs. Harris was a big problem too, but Dirk is still the scoring centerpiece to the Mavs.
Luckily, Howard is a shell of his former scoring self, and the Mavs are much weaker in their front court defensively.
We should be fine.

but they still have joey crawford. hehe

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
This is the match up I wanted for the Spurs.
Dirk is meek. It's in his make-up.
The same guy who folded against the Heat, the same one who got eliminated by the 8th seeded Warriors by "taking what the defense gives me." Sorry, no pass for superstars its your job to put the team on your back, not lead the charge to bury your head in a hole.
Tony Parker is going to feast. I mean, he's going to set records against the Mavs, draw so many fouls TD can take it easy.
Spurs have been getting back to prevent transition all year. So good luck to J-Kidd on that.
Oh and Pop > Carlisle

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Is this the same Devin Harris who scored 2 points in game 7? Or the one that had 5 to's in game 7? Is this the same Diop who came back to Dallas this year and couldn't get off the bench?
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Hollins is much much better than Diop. Has anyone heard of Diop since he went to Charlotte? Didn't think so.
Duncan choked in game 7. Plain and simple. I know SpurFan can't beat to hear those words, but he missed two point blank layups on the final posession, airballed a hookshot in OT, and then traveled before even dribbling.

Diop sucks for sure, but Harris played d on Parker like no one else. He gave him fits.

"Meek" Dirk sent the Spurs asses packing last time they met and there STILL isn't anyone on that roster that can hold him down.

Devin Harris is not the reason the spurs lost that series.

No, but he was a player who the Spurs had trouble with. The Mavs are now down to one guy that the Spurs can't match up with.

He was a big part. Avery was another reason.

I love Diop but if you know you're reaching when you say the Senegalian Swatter was a matchup "nightmare" for the greatest PF ever.

yeah I know. The spurs had such an easy time with Howard last time too :tu

It was more of Dirk and Howard getting whatever they wanted. That'll be the case this year too.

They only had problems in the first quarter.
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Diop had 2 or 3 good or lucky possesions in OT and that made him the Duncan stopper :lmao
Other than that, dude got clowned by Timmy
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Should we loop Adrian Griffin in there too as a Spur killer? Cause he's gone too.

or KVH with some bigs 3's in Game 7?
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
I don't know how the Mavs are going to overcome the loss of KVH either.
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Yeah my bad, I forgot about KVH's quickness. The Spurs didn't have an answer for him all series.

Recently Dirk meekly took it up the ass against the 8th seeded Warriors and lost in the first round, a year after D-Wade took the Finals from Dirk (or did he cave under the pressure) and showed him how to win a series.

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
What about Quis? His cheerleading helped a ton.
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Loss of Manu >>>>>>>> Loss of Diop/Harris
If Mavs lose the series its not bc Diop and Harris arent playing

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
Terry always seems to play well against the spurs, he's still there.

Not at all. You had a coach that:
A) Knew all of our plays
B) Made your team play defense like nobody else
We just couldn't score enough. On top of that, we had no answer for Devin and Dirk, which compounded the problem. Actually, Devin was even more key than Dirk in that series, because Dirk we already know we have a problem containing, but he only pretty much takes jumpers (at least these days he does). But Devin drove right through and not only scored, but got our bigs in foul trouble, plus made Tony work hard on defense.
You can laugh all you want at the importance we give Devin, but he was one of the guards that gave our team the most problems during the Duncan era. Since he's gone, we've beaten your team fairly consistently.

Check the schedule for me. Are the Mavs playing the Warriors or the Heat this weekend? Or are they still playing the Spurs - a team that has no one to match up with him?
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
It'll come down to whatever Howard shows up how quickly Mavs forget what he played like before last month
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
It will come down to bench play......bottom line!
-
Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
no match up problems for the spurs...the mavs are pussies...they'll find a way to choke

The Spurs don't need to match up against 1 player. (in the past, the system is still there at least..)
They are adept at marginalizing the impact, see series against Cavs 2007.
As for Dirk, the series against the Heat and Warriors showed his nature.
D-wade (and refs) led his team to 4 straight wins after going down 0-2 in the Finals to take the Championship.
Dirk and team lost 4 straight.
How he played against them seems to be the norm.
2006 against the Spurs was the exception.
It doesn't all fall on 1 player, but your Superstar sets the tone, and if I saw my franchise guy fold the way he did against the Warriors, well that would have far reaching implications on how the rest of his career would go, because we have glimpsed what he is made of. And it doesn't seem to be of that sterner stuff.
TD and TP are minted champions many times over.

My grandmother could beat Bonner in a game of one-on-one, so don't start thinking so much of your team.

Re: Spurs-Killers are gone
I think it has to do with Dallas liking the tempo of the game San Antonio presents. It's not all about player matchups but team style matchups as well. Teams that run give Dallas trouble.
