We need someone to defend him, I think I remember Hill swatting his shit and defending him pretty well. But of course Pop will not give him any playing time.
He's real good at selling offensive fouls.
You got to have the speed to stay in close though.
He owned Parker!
The kid is pretty damn good, especially given his small stature. Even so, doesn't excuse the poor play by Parker in the 2nd half. And Matt Bonner? GTFOuttahere
Let's see where Ducks and Kace are now. He kicked Tony's ass.
sorry, but JJ Barea isn't good..he's a scrub..he has skills, but he's about 5'8 and has no athleticism..players like that aren't supposed to dominate a team with "defensive principles" like the Spurs..
I can safely say that this was the most embarrassing performance our team has allowed from an individual player in recent memory..he abused Parker on both sides of the floor, and that should never happen..
take the Phil Jackson approach and start knocking him down the lane like they did to Parker all those series. shake is confidence and see how big he really is.
All he did was ride Tony's hip on every drive and draw 50/50 offensive/defenisve fouls
fuck outa here.
Tony is at fault too...he should've pulled up all second half, hit or miss.
ill take my chances with barea every time.
JJB thrives on situations like this, kid has balls. He was surely our MVP tonight, along with Damp
I tip my hat for him.
I can respect guys who aren't wimps during the playoffs.
I agree. If Tony is going to be called for offensive fouls, he or other Spurs players should knock him hard, not dirty, but hard. Because in all honesty we can't really allow such a thing to happen by JJ Barea, we have Dirk, Howard, and Terry to worry about.
JJ was driving in and penetrating and finding other Mavs to get into a groove or putting up a shot that would either go in or have a Dampier put back.
Also, I firmly believe that we need George Hill logging in some backup point guard minutes.
JJ Barea clearly has skills, a lot of skills..that's why he's in the NBA, despite his height..
it doesn't change the fact that he's not supposed to break down a D and dominate like he did against a team that is SUPPOSED to have defensive principles..he isn't athletic like Nate Robinson..he's a short guy that isn't athletic..
the worst part of all was defense..guys JJ Barea's size should NEVER be able to play NBA-level D, let alone on a guy that is supposed to be a top 3 PG in the NBA..the Mavs should be punished for having Barea on the floor, just like how we were punished for having Bonner on the floor..
you would think Tony Parker could do that..
He is the new Devin Harris. :D
J. Barea
spurs will watch film and make an adjustment
I've seen him play some games during the regular season and he at least showed some brains.
He has a ceiling in the physical department (offensive skills) but as a backup PG he's not that bad, he played a smart game and read the defenses well, so he deserves credit.
Also he had enough speed to stay in front of Parker. That's not an easy thing to do for any PG.
if a scrub like barea is going to do this all series then you just tip your hat to them.
we can get any shot against this team but our defense has to be top notch.
thats not going to happend with bonner getting heavy mins.
Also we need Bowen logging in like 35 minutes per game. I don't care.
Oh yeah and for the record I did not make this thread to bash Tony. This is about JJ Barea and WTF is happening.
Manu is the team's true backup point and this is where him not being on the roster sucks. He allows Tony to take a breather, can be on the floor with Mason at the 3, and possibly even sldie over to the 3 to allow George and Parker to take care of the backcourt, but such is life.
Hill should likely log more minutes as the series progresses and Pop truly identifies Barea as an unstoppable force. I still believe at such a critical junture he would be best at logging time at SG while guarding the point and switching off to Terry. That way he can allow the offense to come to him.
Barea has made amazing improvements. He used to be thought of as a scrub.
When your team is being broken down by Frodo on skates, you know you have problems.
i really wouldnt mind seeing barea guard Tp all series. they still dont have an answer for him, pop just need to manage his mins better and that 2nd unit has got to hold the fort.
Your mvp was wearing black and white. Amazing dampier fouls every fucking other player in the league but not Duncan, This is the continued revenge of crawford you think these refs don't stick together. And gay j barea give me a break he's a little pussy with his mouth guard, he's a luck chuck faggot who had the refs suck him off for some unknown reason.
Take Parker out for a bit, replace him with Hill and replace his offense with Gooden. I would have thought Pop would love Hill for his defense, sure he cannot score like Parker but his defense is pretty good
Nice adjustment by Dallas with Barea...Where was our adjustment, putting G Hill on him????
Man...Bonner was terrible tonight!
The question remains: How do teams continue to take guys like Barea and make then good back-up PG's while the Spurs still can't seem to develop one?
Barea got into Tony's head. And that is inexcusable at this point in time.
FU for putting me and Ducks in the same category.
anyway, i didn't see the game yet. I assume Tony gets time defending Terry and Kidd and they had a quiet game. Even Barea was 14 pts at 6-14, not shooting 80 %.
but he already gave Tony problems in the RS. He attacked him like he had something to prove. we'll have to find a way to contain him better though.
but only looking at the boxscore, the scoring was obviously very well shared for the mavs. with Howard with 25 pts in almost only three QT. and bass and dampier at 12-15. it looks like we have multiple adjustements to make and at multiple position.
a back up point guard is eating our MVP alive :vomit:
his defense on tony on the 2nd half ? i prefer to think it was tony missing or running out of gas. i didn't see anyone able to really stop tony one on one in this league. if the mavs have a secret weapon with this dwarf, it would be unexpected and terrible for us. we'll see.
I'm not just talking about Hill. I am talking about years of no decent back-up PG on the Spurs while other teams manage to find guys who are not even drafted who can be decent back-up PG's.
And playing Mason at PG pretty much throws out the notion that the Spurs will only play pure PG's. If they will play Mason at it. why not Hill? At least Hill can defend PG's better than Mason can.
Did you not say you did not even watch the game- How can you make a comment like that?
Hill is more like a Jason Terry, a Jeff Hornacek (more athletic), or a Joe Dumars. That is what he has been groomed as primarily. Pop has won despite the PG claims so I'm not as concerned as most.
He was doing with Mason what he would do with Manu, who would be seeing time at the point if healthy, not Hill. Hill can still defend PG's without having to run the point himself and Mason was not turning the ball over so again, I'm not as concerned as most. The only thing I could see him needing to do more is using screens to get into the lane. He's a very good passer when he draws defenders that way rather than a guy that might look for his own shot.
He's just another flopper.
