Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
I know TD is Mega SuperStar and also is part of the NBA's history a multiple champion, a gentleman and the man why this team has been succefull ... but I think is time to draw a plan for next 5 years.
That Master plan must be around Tony Parker!
Manu and TD are old, and are playing with injuries, so accept that, those years are gone, we need to rebuild.

Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
yep manu for bosh
manu is better then prince
-
Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
FUCK THAT.............. TD kept us in the game dumbass.....besides Tony. FUCK YOU!!!!
-
Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
No. This team has to get healthy. The Big Three aren't the problem. The role players are the problem. Give the team ONE role player who stepped up today and they probably win.
One.
-
Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
Tony, Tim and manu. that's the core. and old Bruce still worth more than any other role players.
-
Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
2 postseason in a row no healthy manu
does he have to have three in a row before you trade him?
oh do you just burrying you headinthesand and hope he is healthy next year?

Rasheed we should get Rasheed in the offseason.

Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
Rebuilding around a PG has only worked with Isiah Thomas, New Orleans have done it with Paul to no success, Utah have done it to D-Will to no success.

With the way Gooden crapped the bed on the road, I'm starting to like that idea.

Manu becomes a really juice (juicy?) trade asset next season. (I wouldn't like to see him go, but it's still true)

as great as TP has played, this shows you just how valuable Manu is to this team.

The question is not who but when.

Believe it or not, Detroit actually have worse role players than the Spurs.

shows you spurs need 3 players to score in the high teens or in the 20's
most playoff w's teams have 3 players scoring in high teens or twenty's

If Raptors trade Bosh is 'cause they would like to get something in return beyod 2010, with Manu they don't get that.

I love Manu but the Spurs losing doesn't have much to do with him at the moment. Yes, they win this series with Manu. But if the point you are trying to make is that the Spurs would win this series trading out TP for Manu ...... that's way off base.
The Spurs didn't even need a superstar like Manu. They just needed an offensive role player to step up. Hell, placing Hill into the rotation going into the game might have been enough.

Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
Rebuild the supporting cast.
-
Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
Building a team around a point guard, is both extremely difficult, and foolish.
EDIT: Unless you have that rare point guard that can dominate in multiple facets of the game, and make everyone around them much better players (Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson)

Agreed. Ship Finley/Udoka/Oberto/Vaughn out, let Bowen retire and see what you can get.

thats not the point im making at all timvp.
im saying that manu instantly makes our 2nd unit a whole lot better and that this team doesnt have much of a chance in the playoffs without him.
pop has said it , tp and td have said it and this series just proves it.
the point im making is that even with TP playing at a superstar level, manu will always be the x factor for this team.

so trade tp for bosh?
and then the spurs can be like portland a good team without a point guard?

Like I said, have you seen his team?
Also as the season has gone on i've tended to back away from wanting Sheed, he's been pretty awful. McDyees would be a much better option, he's a solid 10-15 rebounds a night player.
-
Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
We need another solid defensive big and an athletic SF. Keep the core 3 (TD,TP, and Manu).

What? Why would you trade TP for bosh? You just don't rebuild around Tony.

Wallace is the perfect fit for us: He'd be an improved version of Horry.

you can't build around a PG. sorry.

Re: Is there any doubt around who Spurs should rebuild this team?
trading manu would be the dumbest thing this franchise will ever do.
there is no trade out there that will ever get equal value for what manu does.
the only dumb shit who would like that is ducks.

OK. we got it. but with manu + Tim, we lose by 20+ tonight. We all know this team is built around a three players core. What's your point ?
Add a Dirk, Howard, Barrea, Terry even Kidd, maybe Dampier like with Tim and Tony, and we win this game. The X-factor thing is bullshit. All we need is others options to score. 2 isn't enough.
I'm glad that third option is usually manu considering the player he is. but put any other good offensive player, and that would have been enough tonight.
The fact is when you have a team built around three players and one of them is (consistently) missing, that hurts your chance.
TP is playing better than we could hope. And Timmy maybe less well that we could hope (kness ?). so, we're in trouble.
and a lot of people aren't considering one of the big reason we lost tonight : REBOUNDING.
The mavs shot poorly so we could consider our defense OK.
tony's outstanding performance and Tim good game made our offense decent overall.
REBOUNDING (lack of it) killed us.

I agree. Udoka isn't that person and Fin was no where insight. Mason was on the bench a lot. Can't really look anywhere else. Gooden? and his headband suffocating his brain?

That's where the young talent will come into play. Hill/Mahinmi/Gist/Hairston would be a good starting point. Sanikidze is a wild card. Then there's MWilliams, we'll see what he can do. They also have the Warriors' 2nd round pick which will be #37. Plus, it does look like Splitter will be available (or at least more likely to be available) in 2010. They also have their MLE to use this summer, which could be used to find a solid role player. All is not lost, but Pop needs to be willing to go with a young, inexperienced supporting cast at some point.
Also, I guess Javtokas is still alive. I'm not sure he'd be an upgrade over Oberto, but I think he'd cost less and Oberto's health might be an issue.
If there'd be a silver and black lining in exiting this postseason early, it'd be that the Spurs would have a greater impetus to shake things up.

It's true that the role players sucked tonight, but is also true that outside Tim and Tony nobody had more than 3 fg attemps coming into the 4th quarter. The "X-factor thing" to me represents Manu's hability to make players around him better and that isn't bullshit IMO.
