Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
Did anyone see it?
Post game. He was asked about playing international ball this summer and if he's learned from Manu's injury. He said he's not worried because Manu was over 30 and he's still young.
WTF?!
Last time I checked, being young doesn't make you invulnerable to being injured.
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for playing international ball is stupid.
For the record, Parker has already gotten injured before playing for France
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
Way to make the night worse Buddy :lol
JK.
Yeah its beyond retarded and just plain stupid for him to do it.

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
International ball is always going to be ever-present in sports. Get over it.

We all need to get Eva behind closed doors and get her to tell Tony No Mas SEX if he plays French Fairy ball this summer!!!

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
Good for him. I hope he represents his country honorably, and has a good summer.
For all the bitching and complaining, I'm pretty sure a bunch of people here will be watching him perform with France when the games happen.
Gotta get a basketball fix somehow, and this time it's going to be longer than usual...

spurs better fkn buy insurance for all players on international duties or have that disclosed on all new contracts, fuck that shit it better not be with AIG also lol.......
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
International play should be for amatuers only, otherwise it's another kind of pro league. Honor your country all you want, but do it when you're an amatuer.
Pro teams are within their rights to restrict their players from playing in other pro leagues.

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
at least manu was defending a gold medal.
france sucks, haha.

The national teams have to. Otherwise they can't play.

Fair enough, but they should be IMO.

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
He's not going to get hurt, calm down. I'm pretty sure there will be rules set forth by Pop for his other team.

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
I don't know how it is in the USA, but in Europe and everywhere else, playing for your country is the most you can do in your career.
France with Tony won in 2000 the "FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship" and TP was the MVP of the tournament.
Since then, he is the leader of this new generation (post 2000 Olympic Games).
France record since 1999
1999 European Championship : 4th place.
2000 Olympic Games : 2nd (Silver medal).
2001 European Championship : 6th place.
2003 European Championship : 4th place.
2005 European Championship : 3rd place.
2006 FIBA World Championship : 5th place.
The problem is, since 2006 a lot of french players are not playing anymore for their national team. But i think it's gonna change now.
France, today, has a lot of good players and could do something special in the years to come if everyone is on the same track.
It's a great honor to represent your country in sports. It's not difficult to understand.
When Tony was a teenager, his country gave him a great formation. That's one of the reasons he is the player he is today. Without this formation he wouldn't be able to play in the NBA today. Tony knows that, and beyond that, he is a true competitor and love playing for his NT.
The NBA season is off during 6 months. You really believe that a NBA player doesn't play basketball during those 6 months.
A player can get injured playing with friends, or practicing... or simply walking in the street (one false move : sprained ankle.)
You can't expect the worse everytime, otherwise you're not doing anything anymore.
So, Tony will play some games for France, what a big deal.
He played for France last year and see the result : he had a great season with the Spurs.
Last year, with a lot of french players MIA, Tony had to carry the French team and he did a fantastic job... Maybe what he did with the French team was a good training for what he did with the Spurs this year.
The more you play international games, the better player you will become.
TP is improving his game every year, thanks to the Spurs and thanks to the French team.
See the positives, not always the negatives... :toast
Oh, and :flag::flag::flag:

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
He's going to play, whether we like it or not. So we might as well learn to accept it. It's an honor for any player to play for their national team.
Anyways, what are we worried about? Tony has more than 4 months of vacation coming up! He SHOULD be playing ball! Who the hell needs 4 months of vacation?
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
Anyone knows about the schedule? The rest in between games and before the NBA season? Will Mahinmi also play?
Best wishes to TP. After what he did for the Spurs in the play-offs, he deserves a pass to play for his country.
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
but but but... Kill Bill Pana says France sucks so why should he play?
just kidding, I hope he plays well - anyway loosing in the first round gives him time to rest
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
Besides Tony Longoria, France has also got plentiful players that can play awesome basketball games. I think France is always a contender in the globe even without Tony Longoria, a squad consisting of Turiaf, Diaw, double Piterus is good enough to keep their team competitive in world wide.
-
Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
Go France! They havent been really great last times, but I hope they can qualify for poland, they have a good team and with a superstar like tony, they should be able to easily make the eurobasket. Its a wonderful thing for a player to play for your NT. Injuries happen everywhere.

France did not even qualify for Eurobasket so they have to play a qualifying tournament in August first to get there- probably their biggest competition is Italy who ended up in their same group in the draw.
Then, if they make it, there will be the actual Eurobasket tournament from September 7-20, 2009 which is unfortunately fairly close to training camp.

Re: Parker's reasoning for his little concern playing international ball is stupid.
let the dude play. he'll get some substantial rest and play for the french NT. that will allow him to come into training camp raring to go while others will have to ramp up.
injuries can happen anytime, practice, in a NBA game or playing for you NT.

Oh, and :flag::flag::flag:
thank you for saving me the time of writing that. some fans have this retarded notion that teams own players. that's not the way it works. the rules are very clear, players have a LEGAL RIGHT to play for their NT. what's more, the guys that play for their NT are MORE DESIRABLE because it shows they have a competitive spirit and love for the game that goes beyond their contract. "but injuries, but injuries..." is for cowards. any player that plays thinking about injuries is done.
in 07-08, an international player carried the spurs for the season till he ran out of gas and got injured, in large part because he had very little help from role players.
in 08-09, another international player carried the spurs for the season till he ran out of gas, in large part because he had very little help from role players.
and some spurs fans want to blame international players. blame the FO and coach for riding these guys without developing backups and rotations.

They have to play in qualification tournament first. Italy is in same group as them. So I am not sure who Italy will send but rumors is team will be something like Danilo Galinari, Marco Belineli, Andrea Bargnani, Maurice Taylor, Luigi Datome, Massimo Bulleri, Angelo Gigli, Luca Vitali and players like this.
So there is very strong chance if Italy does send an A team that Parker will play maybe for 3 days or so and already be eliminated.

Sometimes Parker speaks before he thinks.
