he isnt nearly as good as he used to be
Hedo going to Toronto probably makes Marion available. And even though Marion on paper could possible fit enough to make him an option for the Spurs, I'm bumping this thread to say Marion would be my absolute last option. Horrible teammate and disappears in the playoffs.
Pass.
After whatever the spurs do with the MLE I would like to see them go after a title hungry veteran like a Shawn Marion, Grant Hill, or Antonio McDyess. If we sign someone like Wallace it could convince one of these guys to jump on board to win a championship. They have made plenty of money so if they want a title their best oppurtunity would be by taking spare change from a team like the Spurs.
Even ignoring the character issues with Marion..we play a half-court style, and everybody knows Marion has no ability at all to play this style..
Fucking Marion
I was playing vs Miami in NBA 2k9; I thought he passed the ball inside but it was a dagger 3.
Fucking retarded looking jump-shot
I've got to admit, when I heard that Toronto would probably have to renounce the rights to Delfino, Marion, and Parker, I had to wonder if this emo would be worth taking a gamble on. I think I might do so, begrudgedly, if Wallace or 'Dyess passed on the Spurs. Maybe you could get him on a one-year deal where he busted his ass for a contract in '10? (I think I just threw-up in my mouth a little..)
I can't stand the guy's insecure ass but he can still play a little, and using him at the 4 might be a better option than using some journeyman/scrub big who's more the prototypical 4/5..
I really don't want the Spurs to have to feel like they have to go small because of an inability to get the appropriate help for Tim. The last thing I want to see is another year of Pop experimenting with a type of basketball he feels he has to play, because of what he doesn't have at his disposal.
But I guess we'd really have nothing to worry about with the likes of Blair and Mahinmi to count on, so I guess bring the D-Bag on.. :downspin: :smokin :drunk :wtf
(Sheed? Please don't let this D-Bag don the silver and black...)
I think the guy's looking for a lot of money, but I don't know where it's coming from.
Marvin Williams would be a much younger and more talented choice to go after for the small ball 4 type. He also has a ton of upside (I guess I miss the draft already!) and if we could get him away from Atlanta, we would much rather have him over Marion. I am not saying it's the way to go, or even that the Hawks wouldn't match, but if you are going to spend $$$ to play small ball, Marvin Williams is the guy Spurs fans should want.
Marion would be a good pickup as a vet minimum contract chasing a ring, and the fact that he would never sign a deal like that for the purpose of winning, is exactly why he isn't a guy you want in the silver and black.
No to Shawn Marion! The Spurs need a big!!!
if we dont get sheed i much prefer to spend the MLE on Shawn Marion, sheed is the only big man out there that worth for the Spurs to spend on him the MLE cause he fit for what the Spurs need in a big. if the Spurs can't get sheed there is no big that worth the MLE so Marion could be a good option for the MLE cause he is quality player, can play 3 positions and he is good defender.
Kobyz,
I have to disagree with you.
The Spurs need someone to help TD with rebounding, post defense, and blocking a shot or two.
That should be their main focus...not another wing player.
They need length and size along the frontline.....they have enough wing players.
Even though Marion is a good defender, he's only 6'7 and would have no chance against Odom or Gasol.
Marion is a great rebounder and can give us lineup options with match ups advantages, i also think that he can guard well Lamar Odom. for the MLE Marion have a great value.
Rasheed is the only big in the FA that worth the MLE for us so if we could not get sheed a great plan for us will be the sign Marion with the MLE and then try to use the expiring contracts of Bonner, Mason and Fin to get a big.
Players like Marion, Marvin Williams, or Odom may be willing to take a 1-year MLE deal. 2010 is going to have a lot of teams with serious cap room making runs at a few high-end free agents. There's gonna be a few teams that miss the boat on the FAs and will have money to spend. Marion, Williams and Odom will be there to get the sloppy seconds - which could be a pretty high-end deal.
So these players may be available for a 1-year deal - but that's putting all our eggs in the Splitter basket for next year.
I wouldn't mind Marion as a backup SF, so long as we sign Sheed with the MLE.
i wouldn't hate the idea of adding marion, but his complaining about his role and being the 3rd option in PHX would indicate that he is NOT a "title hungry" veteran.
there would definitely be doubts as to whether he would have any interest in going to a team where he would be the 5th option...
The only way I see us getting Marion is through a S&T. If he signs for the MLE finley or mason(more likely)+bonner might get him to us. If Mcclinton can provide the immediate 3pt shooting a lot of people think he can I would be very much for this.
He has had character issues in the past, but if anyone can knock some sense into him its Pop and Duncan. And he would fit perfectly as the backup SF playing 20-25 a night.
Uh Getting Jefferson should end this discussion
Starting Line-up
Parker
Mason
Jefferson
Blair
Duncan
Small Ball - 2nd Unit
Hill
McClinton
Ginobili
Marion
Mahinmi
But Marion would need to be ok with coming of the bench... which by the sounds of the above comments, he too much of a princess to accept it.
If Spurs get Marion, I ,wouldn't be worried by him disappearing in the playoffs or being a bad teammate. What would worry me is that he seems to be on the decline.
