After Lawrence v. Texas, there was from some circles. But many would assert there's a legitimate state interest tied to welfare of women and children involved in such relationships. Scalia's dissent in Lawrence (which many seem to be asserting here) cited majority morality consensus (legislating on morality, mentioning bestiality specifically as an example). But if you can't find a legitimate state interest against homosexuality and civil unions other than "animus" (and Romer suggests, with the current court make-up, that would be difficult), they will eventually fall under Equal Protection. I think it's inevitable with regards to civil unions.
Re: Is NY next for same-sex marriage?
I don't represent most people in this regard, so don't lump in everyone who supports gay marriage with me, but I don't honestly have a problem with polygamy. Different religious traditions (including the second largest religious tradition on the planet, Islam) have sanctioned polygamy for ever...and society never broke down.
I don't see the harm in consenting adults entering into any relationship they feel like, why is it anyone's business what personal decisions people make?
Re: Is NY next for same-sex marriage?
I don't understand why polygamy is illegal in America. Marriages with incest can cause health problems like retardation but I'm pretty sure polygamy doesn't. I just don't get why gay people should be allowed to get married but polygamy supporters and enthusiasts can't. Besides, polygamous couples cannot control how they feel. They were born that way.

Just to bring this up, until there a surefire way to communicate with animals and know their minds, beastiality can NEVER be considered consensual. Pardon the pun, but that's a different animal altogether.

I'm betting that cows don't consent to being turned into steaks either.
Re: Is NY next for same-sex marriage?
Two guys or two women getting married doesn't effect my marriage one bit.
Re: Is NY next for same-sex marriage?
What about a man marrying two women or a woman marrying two men?

Inherent gender equality and unhealthy environments for children with potential for sexual abuse are both legitimate interests for the state, it's not just an issue of morality.

Nope, but again to most people that's a completely different issue.
The act of sex with a human causes people to think of animals in more human terms. When they're foodstuff, they are objectified. It's a convenient mental distinction.
I'm sorry, but it's idiotic to include bestiality in the "slippery slope" argument against same-sex marriage. It ranks up there with sex with children and incest as asinine arguments. It's just not really related to homosexuality or polygamy.

Nope. Personally I don't give a damn about beastiality one way or another. As a society we vacillate between thinking of animals as possessions and second class people to accomodate our views of loving pets, but sanctioning deaths to provide food. I'm not a vegan, so what right do I have to complain about beastiality.
But I really feel sorry for you if you don't find a difference between what consenting adults do, and acts that can not legally be considered mutually consenting.

I feel sorry for you that you are babbling on with no real point being made.

The government should quit raping our country.

Heh. Quite true. I explained it was a completely different argument than homosexuality and polygamy. It doesn't mean I care about beastiality; it means I care about bad comparisons and associations.

it's not a bad comparison or association. You admitted yourself you have no right to complain about bestiality.

is this another rhetorical question?

I would agree that this a pointless argument though.
