Eh...North Korea is a huge shithole, they are also just about impossible to defeat due to the countries that want them there and their geogrpahical proximity to them. Plus, the South Koreans are kind of douchebags about us being there. Anyway, at least you can see why they are a shithole. Similar with Pakistan and Syria.

The entire problem with the middle east has been from one thing: european imperialism. The UK/France/Dutch/Etc went in at various times and staked claims from basic things like agriculture to the much coveted oil. The result is the region has been decimated from foreign influence and they hate everyone outside now. The cold war and WW2 made things even worse as much needed oil reserves were located in the countries. With outside sources like the USSR and US later influencing who came to power in these countries, it pretty much seeded what was needed for charismatic dictators to rise to power in defiance of the "foreigners".

Plus the entire debacle that was the creation of Isreal.

What can we do? Who knows. We are probably screwed whether we let them fight each other or if we guide diplomacy ourselves. What's funny is that europeans that criticize the US for what we do in the middle east are the ones who started this entire mess in the first place.

She's not a seasoned vet like Manu. Newt can wait until after the all star break because people generally know him and what he's about.


She's more like George Hill. She needs as much playing time as possible in order to reach her potential. She doesn't need to make her move now, but she does need to start forming her platform. If she waits too long she won't be able to get her message out effectively.

Good point. Values are context dependent.

But I find it interesting that -- more and more -- criticism from the right distills the outrage of an even *loftier* political correctness, rather than proceeding from the vantage of (a more traditional) *individualism*. Racial justice is not maligned but instead upheld by Sotomayor's conservative critics, who would protect us from her racism and sexism.
