Get over it.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
no way parker and Jefferson avg 36 min. Pop would not allow it
-
Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I hope hill averages closer to 20 min and Parker averages a little less just in case, since hes playing this summer.

I would imagine the goal would be to have Tony, RJ, and Timmy somewhere in the 30-32 minute range, Manu somewhere between 25-28. Finley will get some time (hopefully not more than 10 minutes), and I'll be surprised if Mahinmi doesn't get some time (unless of course he's hurt like we should be expecting him to be). ***** will probably be less than 30 as well (probably between 22-27).

yeah we don't want to wear him out all season long, especially towards play-off time
-
Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I also think Gist will get some playing time(if he plays well this summer) when Pop rests some guys like Duncan or whoever on roadtrips.

Too many minutes for Manu. And based on this roster on this day you have to figure Finley gets rotation minutes as well. A 9 man rotation is pretty thin for regular-season Pop. Take 8 from Manu and 8 from Mason and give them to Finley.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
The OP forgot to take smallball into account, I guess we'll play some with RJ at the 4.
So not 96min for post players.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
Okay, I'll be the one to say it. There's only 2 names under PG. Pop likes to carry 3. Vaughn is coming back. Not saying he's going to play, but Pop will have him on the roster.
-
Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I think mcclinton if he plays well, will technically be the 3rd pg even though he plays the sg.

Nah, Vaughn's time is done. In 2005, they went with only two points guards on the roster ... that was with a worse version of TP and a rookie Beno. TP and Hill will probably be enough as long as Hill looks decent in summer league.
If not, the Spurs will sign a third string point guard. But I highly doubt it'll be Vaughn.

That probably pretty close. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jefferson lead the team in minutes at around 33 or 34. Ginobili might be close to 27. That unknown bigman depends on the player but I would pencil whoever it is around 28 and give those four extra minutes to the wings due to small ball.

Something like that. It'd be nice to lower Finley even more and give more minutes to Hill at SG but 12 is probably the minimum amount of minutes Finley will play.
It'd also be a good sign if Mahinmi or Gist could pass Bonner on the list and turn Bonner into more of a specialist.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I think the Spurs are ok with the possibility of having two point guards who don't really play the point all that well as long as they can score and defend. They have been trying to stock up on bigger guards with some PG skills (Manu, Mason, Nando, maybe even Williams) to offset any lack of playmaking from the smaller guards.

In 2005 we had Barry though. I think Pop trusted him at backup PG more than he trusts whatever combination of Hill/Mason/Manu/McClinton/Williams we'd have this year. Sure, we're all hoping Hill steps up and solidifies the role, but what if he doesn't? I'm not saying I think Vaughn is the best way to use a roster spot, but given Vaughn's familiarity with the team, and Pop's respect for him I think there's a really good chance Vaughn is on the team at least during the first part of the season. If Hill or whomever steps up and proves they can handle the role, then Pop might be okay cutting Vaughn loose. JMO of course.........

Looks good to me. And pretty fair all around. :tu
Anything to keep the minutes down for Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I believe you have to cut Duncan's minutes; definitely no back-to-backs, and sits the 4th in any blowouts.
-
Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
Predicting a team rotation that soon in the offseason quite makes no sense.
Let's first see what other moves Spurs will do and what prospects will do during the SL.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I wish McClinton pans out and makes Mason expendable...

need a Defensive C for the other 12 post minutes, or not, I'm a big believer in Bonner, Blair, Mahimni, and Gist, they can all have 3 more minutes

Are you sure these are your playoff minutes predictions?..PLAYOFFS?..

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
I heard Pop saying that he wanted Mahinmi to be part of the rotation last year before he got injured, so I expect him to be part of the rotation this season.
-
Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
How I would like it to be:
Starting line up-
Tony 32 - Manu 30 - Jefferson 32 - Duncan 30 - ??? 28
Bench-
Hill 20 (with some wing minutes) - Mason 30 - Blair 20 - Mahinmi 18 (and save Bonner for certain matchups)
How I think it would be:
Starting line up-
Tony 32 - Mason 28 - Jefferson 32 - Duncan 32 - ??? 28
Bench-
Hill 16 - Manu 26 - Finley 12 - Blair 20 - Bonner/Mahinmi 14
NOTE: I really hope ??? to be Rasheed Wallace.

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
oh come on.
we all know finley is gonna be closer to 20 minutes than he is to 10 minutes with Pop as coach.
let's not fool ourselves here.
-
Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
Even keeping expectations low, if the trio of Mahinmi, Blair, and Gist were able to provide
25-30 mpg total, that could go a long ways towards solving some of last year's problems.

Guards like Mason don't grow on trees... he had 5 game winning shots in his first year in a new system... (mostly in games where Parker and Manu were drawing defenders away from him)...
You can't say Mason is expendable based on a single series in which he was forced to play a different role (one in which everyone but Pop, knew he would be less effective). Fortunately Pop figured it out, and hopefully that 'experiment' is officially canned... now the team can focus on a title run next season...
Mason will be big next year... even if he is our 5th or 6th offensive option...

Re: Roster Setup as of 7/2
Why are so many people intent on starting Manu??? He's 32, and it's time to recognise that Mason is the starter. Manu should be used as a spark in the 2nd/3rd, and to close out the 4th. We brought in Jefferson so that he can be the other slasher in the starting lineup.
Parker-Mason-Jefferson-Duncan-Dice/Sheed is a very balanced starting unit.
Hill-Manu-Fin/Hairston/Gist-Blair/Bonner/Mahinmi (depending on matchups) is a killer second unit.
No reason to play Manu more than half a game until mid-March/April - he needs his legs in the playoffs or we're toast again, so protect him at all costs.
