We don't have a big chance to beat Celtics, not even Lakers.
Then, should we consider RJ's trade, which ruin the hypothetical 2010 plan, to be a failure?

Mcdyess is overrated. Zaza! If not him davis isn't that bad.
what a shit thing to say. you just think that and decide to make a thread? come on, its so un needed.
Regardless of how the McDyess situation turns out...I will consider this thread a failure.
Dude, way to write off a season 4 months before it begins. :rolleyes
Get some perspective and come back when you have.
More summer hysteria!
Please-- take up a hobby, like reading or swimming.
then sign Marvin Williams improves every year, very athletic and a nice fit also very young
Don't count out a trade.
The Blair/Mahinmi combo... I am optimistic...
Just hope Pop has the patience and those guys work their butts off.
ye what's the rush there?
btw what's the point of this thread?
Sign Gooden. Trade expiring contracts of Finley and Gooden to the Bulls for Tyrus Thomas. Win.
The Spurs have many reasons to be excited. They have added depth, athleticism, youth, and scoring. All of these were problems for them last year. Any team that adds Manu Ginobili and Richard Jefferson to their perimeter is taking a huge step forward. To suggest otherwise is assinine.
Of course, whether this team can or cannot win a title depends on the development of their bigs. Nobody knows how those guys will develop. But the moves this team has made in the offseason will at least put them in position to compete. There are no guarantees in the NBA, but I am excited about the moves SA has made.
Is Ian Injured or Healthy?
even with Dice the Spurs wouldn't of been favoured at all to beat either Boston or L.A. Spurs need a big guy over 6'9 who can rebound and block shots..thats all they need.
How many "we can't beat the Lakers" threads are needed? If you feel that the Spurs are not good enough to beat LA or the Celtics then you probably do not watch enough basketball to have a very good opinion.
Good God all-freaking mighty..can we not wave the white flag before the season starts? We possibly could have beaten LA with a healthy Manu...I would have liked our chances. Now, not only do we have him, we have a guy in Richard Jefferson who is a legitimate star, and we're going to get a good big that is better than what we've got...I don't get why everyone's freaking out...settle down.
As Tim Duncan once said to Chris Paul "Calm the fuck down."
We have time and options. A trade is always a possibility.
I agree, not only that but we wont be able to beat the clippers. Pop will have a heart attack during the halftime of the game where the clippers are ahead by 54, he will die in duncan's arms. Duncan will be so traumatized he will kill tony and himself the next day in a messy murder homocide, we wont beat anyone else for the rest of the season. We will become the laughing stock of the world. The spurs organization will fold. At&t will fold also because of the all the money they lost getting the naming rights to the center. Half the cellphones in the world will fail, and i will lose all those 15,000 rollover minutes i was saving up for the past 3 years.
Jefferson is a nice addition but it's not enough to beat lakers...

We're 3 months away from the season starting and it's already over.
Fucking bandwagoner, go root for the cavs.. I'm sure they need more fans up there. :rolleyes
The goal, whether in 2010 or now, was to build a team that had a legit shot at winning 1 more title before Duncan retired. Now, you can build a team that has a legit shot and still not win. That would not be a failure.
The failure would be to make moves that most agree give you no real shot at beating the best teams in the league in a 7 games series while handcuffing your flexibility.
You cannot evaluate the "RJ trade" in isolation. You have to evaluate the entire plan. If the Spurs do not get significant help at the Center position (does not need to be a "fantasy" player, just someone who is solid defensively and hard nosed and that fits in their role(s)) I agree the "plan" would appear to be a failure with regards to giving the team a legit shot to win.
We do not know how this will play out, but we can speculate on one move vs another move. Truth is many things happen and things can change, but we have to wait and see who is on the floor before we can make a serious assessment. We can speculate on moves and talk about them, but we will not know until the paper is signed.
The goal is not to win a title this year. The goal is to give the team the best shot to win one before Duncan is retired. The sooner the better, but keep the big goal in mind.
We never know that guy the Spurs signed the other day could be good. He was a lottery pick in 2002 or something like that. They must have seen something good in him, hes been over seas playing over there since 2007. But if he isnt any good I would like to sign Zaza Pachilla not Antonio Mcdyess, Mcdyess is too old and is not going to get any better.
Fuck the plan for 2010, dude! We need to stop making predictions about the Spurs, it does no service to the board and only causes panic or anger. And besides... We're all gonna die like two years after that!!! Ahhhhh!!
*An aspect of the polar shift theory claims that on December 21, 2012, a shift of the axis of the Earth’s rotation will bring a host of devastating natural disasters.
*The Orion Prophecy is a book that claims the Earth’s magnetic field will flip-flop in 2012, causing mass chaos. The truth is that the magnetic field will in fact reverse at some point (it has done so many times), but this does not happen overnight.
*Some Hindus regard 2012 as the year an avatar -- a god in human form -- will appear on earth and usher in a new age, one presumably favorable to the Hindu faithful.
*Meanwhile, alien devotees believe that 2012 is the year when those aliens who first gave human civilization a kick start will return to see how we’ve done. Some believe they’ll give us another boost or two if we haven’t lived up to potential, while others expect mass slavery as punishment for our slacker ways.
*Finally, Nostradamus predicted the apocalypse for 2012, but you’ll have to wait until 2013 to see how it ends.
All this and now you tell me that the Spurs won't beat the Lakers? I can't take it anymore! BTW, I am having a Kool-aid and exotic cheese plate party for all Spurs Talkers that agree with the original poster, please contact me to get the directions to my compound outside of Schertz, TX.
where is the guy who started this thread anyway?
