Congrads!!! Has the NBA been lying about height even worse than before, and they're only 6'2?
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
did you get a picture with them on your cell phone?

James keeps saying that, but how does the Haislip signing affect his role? I have a feeling he might be back in Europe or spending a lot of time with the Toros.

Or getting cut, unfortunately. It's a tough business, and make no mistake.

Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
The other option is that they are grooming him as a 3.

That would be great to allow him to be the back up for Jefferson at the 3, which is of course a need.
Very interesting.

Great if he can play the 3, but that is the $64K question.
Sounds like he's been told he's part of the team though, so that is my guess - they are trying to make Gist into the backup 3. Either that, or he's talking out his arse.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
If James signs he should just play the 3... develop heavy minutes at that position in Austin... damn our starting 5 in SL:
Hill
McClinton
Gist
Blair
Mahimni
the 5 of them could end up being signed :wow
Malik has to look SUPER well if he's going to make it... Marcus Injury came at the wrong time... damn...

Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
james gists fist of the north star?
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
from what i read from scouts on gist when in turkey last year, it appears that he can play the 3 or 4 spot.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
I've been saying he should play the 3 for a while..I don't think he has a legit future in the NBA as a 4, at least IMO..
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
wasn't there an article where he said that he is more comfortable and more natural playing the 3? He moves his feet as if he can definitely play the 3, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
IS it me or does our Summer league roster almost seems like a full blown NBA roster that could compete with some NBA teams?
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
Gist sounds like he'll be on the roster from all the talking he's been doing. Has he really improved so much he'd get those 10-15 minutes behind RJ right away?

So have I and that is the first thing I refuted when Haislip was signed and everyone said good bye Gist.
There are some conflicting reports, but many saying he could be a long 3. We will have to see.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
Gist has said in a recent interview that he knows he can play some 3. I doubt he would say that if the Spurs had already told him they want him to be strictly a 4 in their system.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
Well Bruno posted a link about Pop saying he was not a 3 to refute my claim. But then there were articles where Gist, his current coach and posters who watched him play said he could play the 3? So, who knows? But one thing is for sure, his future with the team would be much brighter if he was actually a 3.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
He may or may not be a long 3, but either way a mobile 4 is the next best thing.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
Maybe they don't consider him a 3 but will have him with the Toros all season to see if he can adapt to that position?
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
My hope is that Gist can truly play the 3. The SL can't start soon enough.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
Ya, but as a mobile 4, the Spurs already have a lot of prospects in that position: Haislip, Blair, Bonner...
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
It would be nice for the Spurs to have a back up 3, such as Gist. It is not a glaring hole, but one that would be nice to have filled with cheap, young and athletic talent.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
I think Haislip is the only one that is a real threat to Gist's potential roster spot, but even then, the Spurs may see Gist as their future Haislip since he is 6 years younger.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
It will be interesting to see who Haislip bumps down the line. We know the Spurs are not paying him to come sit at the end of the bench.
-
Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
if Gist plays the 3 very well he is staying...

The Spurs have plenty of roster spots, don't they? Besides, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Gist is telling everyone this because more because he's confident than because he's counting on a spot.

No. That team would get destroyed by the Clippers.

:lol @ you people thinking that Gist is going to get minutes at the 3 over Finley.

Said but true. The Blair-man is wise. Have him as the 3rd-4th big, Pop!!! Fuck the Red Rocket!!!

Only because they don't have any experience yet. There could very well be a lot of guys here that turn into legitimate contributors.

Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
I miss the days when I used to run into the Spurs places around town. Those were fun times. :)

No kidding. It's a great summer league group, but people shouldn't get carried away.

People said last year that Pop would never agree to trading Bruce Bowen, and now we see that he did. If a young, improving, high energy Gist shows he deserves reserve minutes at SF, I think he'll get them.

Re: George Hill and James Gist at North Star
I repeate again 4 u. james will be a younger, bigger and dunker Bruce Bowen in a couple of years. I saw his potential. i'm expecting a bright fuure for him.
