I think he's trying to work his way back.
Sign him using the LLE left.
Can't really hate on Gooden. He produced his azz off while with the Spurs. His per-minute numbers were ridiculous. The attributes that didn't make him a good long-term fit in San Antonio -- namely a lack of basketball IQ -- were mostly things out of his control at this point of his NBA career.
Good luck, Goody :tu
:tu
Wish him well. It's a shame it didn't work out for us but he'll find a team he can help.
If it can be twitted, is it love?
It would have been nice to keep Gooden, but there's just no way you can say no to Dice when he's the exact player this team needed. If Dice had said no, Drew would have been my next choice though after Sheed and Zaza were off the market.
Thank you Gooden for at least giving us fans hope last year. You definitely did better in 2 months with the Spurs than Bonner did all last year. I wish you could stay but it doesnt seem possible at this point. Good luck to you wherever you may go. Just don't go to the Lakers, Celtics, Suns, Mavs, or Cavs.
Aside from all the bashing that most people give him on here, I am truly gonna miss Gooden. I thought he was a pretty solid pickup last season, and he provided what we all thought he would provide: offense and rebounding. We never expected him to be a great defender, and his bball IQ might not be that great, but he's a very solid player, and he's going to be able to land somewhere they can really use him.
I would be completely down to sign him for the LLE, if we weren't loaded in the frontcourt now. His offense alone off the bench could have been good for the Spurs. Wherever he ends up, I wish him well.
:tu to ya Drew...!
Call R.C. tomorrow and tell him you'll take the LLE and that you are one hell of a backup Point Guard. Or tell R.C. you should replace Bonner. That should seal the deal. :toast
I'd say they're the best too.

I think it's unfair to say that.
The Spurs system is difficult to learn and Pop didn't play him much before the playoffs.
Maybe with a lot of practice with the team before the season he could have been a really good player for the Spurs...
But with Blair, Haislip, Mahinmi & Bonner, there's no room anymore for him in the team.
Any rumors about where he might be headed?
Bummer. I was hoping he'd find his way back, but that pretty much came to an end the moment 'Dice said yes.
Good luck, Drew. :tu
It's to bad that Gooden's stay didn't end well.

gooden should be brought back as a 3rd reserve. He learned the plays faster than anyone I've seen don a Spurs Jersy besides Timmy and D-Rob.
Gonna miss Drew. He'd be a hell of a backup to Dice.
Gooden did what was asked of him without complaint or second guessing.
He came to the Spurs with high hopes and was never really given a chance to fulfill them. I can't think of too many players who could have handled a seemngly unfair situation any better. It would be fitting if the Spurs could retain him or at least help him to a better destination.
I bet he signs for the LLE if he's out there long enough without a MLE offer.
shit, id say sign him for the LEE, Dyce and Gooden while timmy rest in the bench.
If we can get him for the LLE I'm all for it. Defensive liability but he knows how to score. :tu
good luck gooden!
Thanks Gooden.
Does that mean the 2007 finals picture go back up of him getting his ass handed to him?
Someone is going to offer him more than the LLE. He's a guy that can put points on the board...and there are definitely teams that will pay for that.
Is it possible a sign and trade with OKC : they sign Gooden for 3 millions and then trade him to us for Bonner and a 1 ch. ?
if he doesnt sign for the LLE he should play somewhere else. I wish him all the best and would like to see him back for the LLE, but 3mio? thats 6mio for Holt to pay....I know, I'm sounding like Ebenezer Scrooge himself, but Holt has done so much this offseason, we shouldnt blame him for not paying insane money for lesser players!
:tu good luck Drew. Thanks for the effort.
Yall are killin me... No room? Lesser player? lol... I won't even say why that's so funny. Yall should know.
I would LOVE Gooden back for the LLE if he would do it. I expect him to get a bigger than LLE contract from Orlando tho. They could definatly use him, and he lives there.
Either way... I Twittered him the other day and said I hope he comes back, but if not, thanks for coming here last year when he had other choices... but thanks again Drew!
Good Luck Gooden
A classy organization produces classy players
Class... all the best for Gooden :tu
He'd be a great backup if his price weren't so high. I think he's still expecting better than MLE money for his next contract.
Very classy. Good luck Drew.
That was classy. :tu
Agree with everyone else Gooden was a class act and if he'll take the LLE we'd love to have him back.
classy :tu
Drew Gooden will be missed - I still hope he grows his hair back the way it was a few years ago. He had that little patch of hair on the back of his head. I called it "yak fluff". Best hair-do ever!! GL DREW!
Classy. He will be missed, he did a fine job last year, I wish him the best but no lakers, cavs, celts, mavs, magic... pllleeeaaasssse
Pop should have played him in the play-offs
is dis love is dis love is dis love that I'm feeling?
Thanks for setting me straight about the LLE. That is great news. I was hoping that he signed for the minimum. If we can get Gooden or Williams or Rasho, this would be a pretty much perfect offseason.
* It only took about 8 or 9 years to reach my 1,000 post..:king
I liked Gooden a lot. He wasn't the smartest guy out there, but he always brought 110%. It'd be great if we could keep him somehow, can't think of any reason why we wouldnt' want his energy coming off the bench...
Congrats on 1K posts, Big P!
Gooden was a reliable scorer, but maybe that's because he never passed the ball out to his teammates and took all the shots while he was in the game. Still, as a bench player maybe that was his role.
He was suspect perhaps on the defensive end--but it's not easy picking up the Spurs system.
I wish him well.
Now I know that Gooden isn't a "space the floor" type of player that Pops loves and we used Bonner as last year but although we are accumulating bigs, several are unproven.
A couple of posters mentioned a team with cap room signing him and trading him to us for Bonner, a sack of basketballs and the team washing machine but is this situation below possible?
Spurs trade Bonner to a team with cap space in return for a trade exception. Spurs then use it to offer a contract to Gooden starting at Bonner's salary of 3.25 million.
It adds Gooden at a decent price he might accept without crowding the frontcourt further. Is there anything in the league rule that prevent this from happening?
Didn't see an appreciation thread for Drew, but as some fans posted earlier, he called our fan base the best in the NBA.
I must admit I was hopeful we can retain him, not because his defense sucks or because of his questionable IQ, but because he was a professional. Did whatever he was asked and didn't complain about playing time. And as TIMVP mentioned, how can you ignore his production, especially per 48 mins.
But I just wanted to thank Drew for choosing us, and for staying positive.
On another note, which team do you NOT want to see Drew on? I personally hope he doesn't go to Dallas.
where is the appreciation thread for Austin Croshere??
what exactly are we thanking him for?
Thanks for making me appreciate Rasho Nesterovich more.
No to Dallas or LA.
You still want to thank him, if he goes to Dallas or L.A?
It seems like he'd be a good fit on the Knicks.
Class act player. He didn't end his time here, but he's got a high motor and I have respect for him.
According to Marc Stein, the Pistons have Rasho ahead of Gooden now. i still don't understand why Gooden's considered so poorly:
"It's believed that the Pistons, as of Thursday, have Rasho Nesterovic and Chris Wilcox ahead of Drew Gooden as their next free-agent targets, since it appears that they can't assemble an offer sheet rich enough for Glen Davis to keep the Boston Celtics from matching."

That's insane. Well, I guess since Detroit's Center is Kwame Brown, they probably would look at a guy like Rasho. Gooden is more of a PF. That's still a bit weird, though.
Sign him with LLE and whatever money available left....promise him great chance for ring and everything that possible so he can stay...he definitely adds more firepower to the roster. We got RJ, Dice and Blair. Why dont add another one to secure number 5???
Gooden for the LLE :jack
Gooden is a class act and will sign for more than the LLE someplace Im sure.
Thats true but Manu was mostly injured and Tim was playing on one leg while he was here so i think the Spurs needed someone to assume somewhat of an offensive role to give Tim and Tony some help. Last year our offense was basically Tim and Tony plus spot up shooters that couldn't create. If he was on the roster this year (which he most likely won't be) i'm sure he would buy into the Spurs system more considering the roster that we'll have.
