Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Lakers are still in the first spot. You can't really put them any lower considering they are the defending champs.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Healthy Spurs> Defending Over Hyped Champion Lakers
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Mavs over Magic? That is stupid. You are stupid.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
True, but wouldn't it be nicer if the defending champion part was on the Spurs side? I think the Lakers would have been beat last year with a healthy Spurs team. It didn't wind up that way though. Until then, give the Lakers their due. Spurs will bust their ass this season.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Lakers-defending champs, but still need a back up pg, need to see if LO stays
Boston-if healthy, they are also proven.
SA- need to see how rookies pan out, see if RJ can play solid D
Cavs-still need somebody to defend the pick and roll
Orlando-Everybody slept on them last season and look what happened
Portland-gained some expirence last season but still have a long way to go
Dallas- like the addition of Marion but still need a solid center

Vince Carter will be a poison this year for them IMO. Mavs will still be a good team. I think Orlando has just gotten worse this offseason.

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
I'm a Spurs fan too, but I think the Lakers and Celts have to be ranked 1 and 2 out of fairness... the Lakers are the defending champs and the Celts went further in the playoffs missing one star player than the Spurs did in a similar situation. Still, I like the chances for a 5th San Antonio title this season.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Anyone who puts Boston 4th needs to have their head examined. If they don't have massive injuries, they win 65 games minimum this year.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Lakers
Spurs/Boston
Cleveland
Orlando
Denver
Dallas
Portland
..........................does it matter after these teams?

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Why are the Wizards on the bottom? They did a nice job this offseason.

True. In fact the Celtics went farther than SA and they were missing a more important player than the Spurs were. KG was more important to Boston than Ginobili was to SA

The Lakers marched through a wounded Spurs squad and the Mavericks did the same. Give both teams their props, but if health is not an issue, the Spurs should match up well against just about anyone.

Is really hard to tell before seeing how each team adapts to their new guys but I'd go with:
1-Lakers
2-Celtics
3-Spurs
4-Cavs
No other team can win the NBA championship.

The rest don't matter. Marion isn't going to help the Mavs as much as everyone thinks. They added Marion, and lost Bass. That's not much of an upgrade. Their frontcourt can't compete with the 5 teams listed up there. Remember they got dominated by the Nuggets. Portland is too young. Nuggets stayed the same, while everyone got a whole lot better. Rockets don't have McGrady or Yao Ming.

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
You automatically have to start with the defending champs untill something happens. That something could be losing Odom but, I fully expect him to sign with the Lakers soon. Kobe is rubbing Buss's inner thing right about now.
If KG is healthy then Boston starts off in 2nd place. If our new and young guys pan out like we expect them too then we will be right there with the Lakers and Celtics. Then it'll be which one gets on a roll come playoff time.

I don't agree. Usually you do, but not always. I think you can take other factors into account. I think the Celtics with Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Sheed and Rondo (with their excellent bench and an easier Eastern Conference), have an edge over Fisher, Bryant, Artest, Gasol, and Bynum (with a weaker bench and a harder road to the Finals).
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Realistically, Spurs should probably be ranked about 5th. After Lakers, Cavs, Magic and Celtics. You can't move them up until they prove something. Last time we were on the court we walked out of the first round.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
How in the world can Washington be in 30?
Heck, the Kings and New Jersey can fight for that last spot. Washington will be in the playoffs.

true, but i would also say that the mavs were a much better and complete team than the bulls who did have some nice players in gordon, salmons, and rose.
howard, kidd, and dirk though... little more proven and tough to match up with imo

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Amazing how you guys just completely ignore the defending Eastern conference champs, Orlando Magic. We got eliminated in the first round so we should be lower. It's Lakers, Orlando, and then we go from there. Orlando is making some nice moves to keep them in contention for a title. Bass was a good pickup for them and now Matt Barnes too along with Vince Carter, they have a solid core and vets at that surrounding Howard, give them props. I'd take the Spurs over Cleveland but over Boston would be a close one because they have Wallace and Garnett to throw at Tim, the have Paul Pierce who a beast and their team defense is outstanding when they are healthy and should be better with Wallace. Lakers, Orlando, Boston, Spurs, Cavs. Yeah, I think they in the top five and could be tied with Boston but until we see how this season goes Orlando and LA are the top 2 we all chasing them.

Magic were not even legit contenders last year. They beat Celtics without KG. Then faced LeChoke who was more worried about his pregame teatrics.
Magic are the Mavs of the East. Mavs beat an injured Spurs and were also non-contenders. Just got lucky. Stand-ins. That's how lucky the Fakers were last year.

They made it to the Finals and played well against the Lakers that's all that matters. They won regardless of the circumstances and that's what I'm saying. We lost in the 1st round to a wack Mavs teams but we still lost.

Boston being deep is a statement that baffles me, they have no bench. Portland is possibly the deepest team in the league.

The Celts are going to have a BIG drop-off this year. KG is no longer am elite player, Allen and Pierce are dropping and are too old, and Sheed has little in the tank, he is not going to add anything.

I'm assuming they get Davis back..
that would give them 9 players that can collectively make a significant impact on the game in many different ways, and also the possibility of getting Marbury back too..
Orlando is the deepest team in the NBA IMO, but Boston has the best mixture of depth and talent, assuming they get Baby back, at least IMO..

You absolutely cannot place the Spurs anywhere in the top 4 spots. They simply haven't proven themselves yet with their new roster.
It goes like this:
1. Lakers
2. Boston
3. Orlando
4. Cleveland
5. San Antonio
-

In no particular order:
San Antonio, Los Angeles, Cleavland, Orlando, or Boston............The bottom line is whoever stays the HEALTHIEST will end up on top.

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
1. Celtics -If KG is healthy they're the team to beat again.
2. Lakers - They lost Ariza and possibly Odom and gained an aging
psychopath. We'll see how it plays out.
3. Spurs - Poised to shock the world. Health is their main variable.
4. Cavs - Shaq and Lebron are going to tear shit up.
5. Magic - Meh
6. Mavs
7. Nuggets

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Seriously I think you are bonkers.
Lakers on top (just by a hair cause they are defending champs and they got Artest)
Cavs - James is pissed
Magic, Boston, Spurs, Denver should be the next tier. Hard to rank them at this point in time.
But Wizards at the bottom? OMG. Arenas if back should make them a lot better. Butler should be back after a bad year. Theres still Randy Foye, Mike Miller and Jamison. Not forgetting that they have Flip Saunders as a coach.
Instead you put the Grizzlies at 16 on what basis? 3 Freaking ball hogs in Randolph, Mayo and Gay. Randolph alone will ensure that they implode.
There are a few other slightly questionable ones that I wont even go into.

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
Even when healthy last season the Spurs were not very impressive. Weak bench, weak front court, mediocre defense. They weren't winning any titles with that team. Stop kidding yourselves, the Spurs just weren't that good last season.
-
Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
1. celtics - everyone is back and they are a scary team
2. spurs - see above
3. lakers - pretty strong, but felt they had a run against a weak cast, if odom goes, look for a quick out in the PO
4. Magic - a little too stacked, i thought hedo was an important piece of the puzzle for them ... now they jus look like a TANK .. dont know if that will mesh
5. Cavs .. Shaq in the paint, means pretty much lane is clogged, add to that lebron's iffy shooting, and the lane is going to be PACKED for this one ..
6. others dont matter ...

I agree that Nugs should be above Mavs until we can prove that we can beat them. We lost 2 bench players, Bass and Wright but gained a starter, Marion. I think Marion will more then make-up for those 2.

Most fans wants their team to be on top of course. To be honest this kind of thread is garbage. There is a lot of factors to be first seed in come to the season. Health, Chemistry, etc.... We won't know til the season starts. Obviously teams will be adjusting. Yes i will say Lakers is number one because they are champs who cares. But not for long, A lot of the team will gun them done.
AND I WILL SAY THIS GO SPURS GO.. :lobt2:

They did NOT play well against the Lakers. Did you even watch the Finals?

Re: NBA Power Rankings as of now for 09-10 season
I watched enough to know that little mistakes cost them and Lee was goaltended at the end of one game they lost, which they should have won. They should have won atleast two games they lost, did you watch the Finals?

They lost cause they missed their FTs. If they make their FTs, they are up 3-1 going into the final game in Orlando. Instead, because they sucked at the charity stripe, LA went into game 5 up 3-1.

Actually it was not a goaltend. The rule is "if a player touches the rim, net, or backboard in a way that causes the Basketball to miss or change it's normal direction, then it is a goaltend.'' Pau did touch the rim, but he did not shake it in a way that even remotely affected the basketball's flight path. The ball was clearly going to miss regardless of whether or not Pau touched the rim, and Pau touching the rim did absolutely nothing to alter the flight of the shot

Yes i did. The only game they should have won is the game they did win. There are no moral victories in sports, the team with the most points at the end of the game should win, obviously.

You are simply in denial, stupid, or both.
Even Phil Jackson admitted Pau interfered, causing the baskboard to shake. Replay shows his hand getting caught in the net as he swats at the ball. And you are wrong, the shot looks absolutely dead-on till it hits the backboard, where it CLEARLY takes a unnatural bounce.

:lmao at Spur fan. What a bitch he is. Always complaining about what could have or should have happened.
In professional sports there are NO MORAL VICTORIES. A win is a win is a win.

It goes like this:
1. Lakers
2. Boston
3. Orlando
4. Cleveland
5. San Antonio
Lakers - possibly losing odom, lost ariza, added a guy that got into kobes face in the playoffs
boston - added rasheed wallace
orlando - added carter and bass
cleveland -added shaq
so...? i don't understand.. none of these teams have proven anything with their new rosters
:bang

Go watch the video again assface. It did not take an unnatural bounce, not even close. And give a link for Phil saying Pau interfered.

Watch this, and then try to say it's a goaltend. The ball clearly was off the mark already

but none would ever think they didn't improve either. get over it, they were ahead of the Spurs last season and even if the Spurs have improved significantly on paper, they will need to prove they closed the gap.

i didn't say one thing about the spurs being better than the lakers last season.. and i didn't say the teams hadn't improved.. i was simply pointing out that he contradicted himself
but that seems to be a common theme with this guy
