Now that French were dumb enough to win a game they should of lost the chance Greece does not win gold just became much smaller. So you can remember this thread well at the end of the tournament.

You are claiming that the Greek NT staff looked at the current standings in the other group and calculated the most likely outcome of the remaining six games to yield final standings with the Spanish NT in 4th place.

With Spain likely to finish 4th, the Greek NT staff wished to avoid a quarterfinal matchup with Spain, preferring to meet them later in the tournament. To accomplish this, Greece did not want to finish first in their own group and lost to Russia intentionally in order to accomplish this goal.

Why would any team supposedly lose on purpose, I don't believe they lost on purpose, they just aren't as good.

If Greece wanted to avoid Spain then they could just lose the final game against France.

If Russia beat Macedonia and France beat Greece (which is highly possible) then Greece will finish third in the group. And will probably face Slovenia or Turkey in the quarter-finals.

It's impossible to predict the standings so it would be really funny to lose "on purpose". And in any case, whichever team Greece will face from the other group it won't be easy.
