This is a recent picture, he's down to 240. How do you think it will affect his gameplay? He'll be quicker, for sure, and more agile.
Better @ 260, or 240?

I think it will help him. He played a lot lighter when he first entered the league and managed ok. The league has moved to a faster pace so I think this was smart.
:lol Boy, that pic is making the rounds. :)
Dropping weight will make him quicker but I don't think it will affect his strength because strength in the paint is more of a mental thing and confidence.
It'll help his knees, and that's really all that matters for us..Duncan is an anchor defensively first and foremost, and the quickness will obviously help him get to his spots..offensively, it'll help his face-up game, since he hasn't been as successful with it the last few years with the diminishing quickness..so that's great, especially since the NBA big man game is now more suited to that type of playing style..combine that with his much improved jump shot from last year, and he's adjusting his game very nicely to age and league style..
There aren't any big banger Cs in the West anymore with Shaq out East, and Yao out for the season..I really can't even think of one that is relevant..
he is almost durant skinny
I gues he'll make a lot of 360 dunks!
Damn he looks thin...... :wow
Great news. He's probably just about as lean as he can be right now and that should do wonders for his chronically injured knees.
Damn someone needs to feed that guy a sandwich or something.
Hmmm 10 pounds of muscle probably wouldnt hurt.
is that recent? He's wearing a 2009 all-star adidas undershirt.
It was supposedly taken early August.
I'm still gathering info on it. From the Selena Gomez side of it it seems legit, but I'm not positive yet.
I wasn't going to post it until I had more info, but it fit the weight loss conversation. I probably should have waited. :lol
what is good for his knees is good for the spurs
two of my greatest loves
selena gomez
and
tim duncan
(btw i'm 17 so me loving selena gomez isn't so creepy)
I think it'll be better for wear and tear, but he still won't be "quick", and he's going to get banged around by other big guys. Might make the minutes a bit easier on his body though.
Gasol is around 240 so whatever strength advantage had against Gasol, it's gone now.
That pic looks doctored to me.
I'd say it's legit, but very well could be from February. Don't know.
I hope Duncan is taking his vitamens.
Does anyone know what that photo shoot is for
Gasol is a finesse player, Odom barely has any ability in the post(especially against good defenders), and Bynum can't even stay on the floor with his tendency to foul instead of play defense..
All impact players, but their bulk won't be a problem IMO..maybe Bynum if he can consistently get to his legendary(!!!) 5-game peaks..
Gasol is obviously a top player btw, I'm just saying it won't be any different..Duncan has never consistently had problems with Gasol in the past though..

hey, Spurs finally got their long SF!
It's funny. I always thought that Duncan would naturally slide over to the C position at some point, but he seems to be becoming even more of a PF than ever now that the big boys are no longer in the WC. They adjusted his offense to face the basket and shoot more jumpers last year, and now he's slimming down to more of a PF size.
God damn, its like you copied and pasted my post from realgm.com
Oh wait, you did.

I think the weight loss will help him to play better than he has in years.
Dropping to 240 def helps him.
I saw Tim at the H-E-B on NW Military today and that picture is pretty spot on. He looks as lean (or skinny, depending on how you see it) as he was when he first entered the league.
I'm not really sure if it will help him or not, but damn he looks too skinny
A healthy Tim Duncan is always reliable, that's the key..we all know that..and this is why he had to do something for his knees..as long as he's healthy, we'll be fine..
its not going to add 2-3 inches to his vertical :(
Not to mention when we turn the Human Bowling Ball Blair loose on softie Gasol and Bynum. Which is not to say Laker does not have a formidable front line.Quote:

Gasol, Bynum and Joey Crawford will be tough to overcome.
if only tim duncan is more ripped....drob :D
OMG it's Selena Gomez!!
Tim Duncan... eats?
hello Selena.
It would really help too if he lost 10 years.
The reason we added the Dice, Theo and Haislip/Blair is to take pressure off Tim as our real center. I expect Timmy to return to playing the 4 offensively and being a monster on defense while the new "Bruz Brothers" hammer on the likes Pau and Lamar. When Tim has an advantage at center we can always throw in Bonner to rain down 3's.
looking good!
I wonder how he managed it. Yoga, yogurt, or salads? Will he try to gain weight as the long season progresses? I think it means that he will be reclaiming his title as "best power forward ever". McDyess, Blair, Haislip and Ratso will do the dirty work underneath. Should have done this last season. If Mahimni is anything at all the Spurs will be in fat city.
is that girl Serena Gomez?
I'm looking at Selena, man do I love her.
good for his knees as others have said. :tu all the way!
is he on the Manu Ginobili diet????
I believe the photo. My wife and I were at Silo for our anniversary a couple of weeks ago and in walked Tim and Amy. It's not like i'm used to seeing him that close but the first thing that came to mind was that he seemed real slimmed down. He looked like a kid.
Thanks for the story. I wouldn't have posted the pic if I thought it was fake.
I'm still working on confirmation of the date of the pic, but I did some research. Because of the shirt he's in some have thought the pic was taken at the All-Star game.
I checked Duncan's pics from the All-Star break and I don't think it's from February. His hair wasn't as grown out at the break, his beard was heavier and he looked heavier.
February 14.

Early August (if I can ever confirm it. :lol)

salena how tall is she?
she looks like a cutie, asl?
first off, official or inofficial numbers about the weight of a player have to be taken with a grain of salt, much more than about the height. (and as we know, that numbers are very often not accurate, for whatever reason).
so forget about all those "jesus, he's only 240, he will get pushed around by all the guys who are 250 and more" talk. very often the listed 240 guy will in fact be 250 and the 250 guy will be just 240.
however.
fact is, Tim has lost weight and the lost weight will help his moves on offense (and this moves didn't look as quick and easy in the last 2 years) and it will help his health, which is the major point.
and as far as I can judge, Tim's strength and game is based on his strong legs in the fist place and didn't depend that much on the upper body. usually you can retain the strength of your legs pretty well, even if you slim down significantly. just a matter of focus in the weight training. of course, physical laws tell that a body of 260lbs takes more energy to move than one of 240lbs. this will hurt Tim in some situations. on the other hand, factoring in the dynamical aspects, in many situations a more dynamic and quicker Tim will be more difficult to defend. at worst it's a wash, with the benefit of a significantly lower burden on the knees.
It was a long off season, but I was also wondering on the specifics of how he got to 240.
Was also wondering how throwing tractor tires last year didn't trim him down?
Didn't Pop did say that the plan is to start him "out of shape"? Though TD at 240 doesn't really look out of shape to me. So there's a chance he will gain weight as the season goes...
I just watched a movie called the "year of yao" or something like that. His first year he was much, much lighter than now. Ever since he's probably put on 40 pounds his injuries have started.
Bulk is over-rated in basketball. Good for timmah, unfortunately it will help him out a LOT. Dangit!! :)
Getting in shape will never hurt.... Lean & Mean is what we want in the big fundamental........
pic looks a bit weird imo ...
I think he should drop 12 more pounds :downspin:
