Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
The Spurs FO and Duncan would never get to that point. If the front office told Tim to pack it in when he still wants to play and can contribute to a team the Spurs deserve to have him leave. Fortunately for basketball fans guys who don't start can still play significant minutes and roles. If you are a back up quarterback that isn't going to happen. Duncan still has tread left on the tires so no need to worry yet.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
Unlike Favre, when Duncan is done, he will know it and walk away and have no problem doing so.
TD's final press conference will probably go like this..
"It's been a blast, thanks to my teammates, thanks to Pop and the organization, thanks to the people of San Antonio....i'm headed to the pool....later."
:)

If he pulled a Favre then he has all the right in the world to play quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. :hat

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
Its a business ya'll.
He could go to the Lakes or Mavs though and I'd still love him.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
I was in Milwakee on business the day that Farve retired from the Packers, it was hilarious. I woke up in my hotel, went to go get some breakfast and everyone was just PALE white. I know, I know, it's milwaukee, but you know what I mean. I mean even their black guy was pale, that is how bad it was. I didn't even know what was going on. Then I went to my training, and all of the people from the office hosting the training, same thing, they were all pale too. I was like, "WTF is going on? Was there another terrorist attack or something??" This lady just looked at me with tears welling up in her eyes, paused for a moment, then looked down and said "Brett Favre retired, I thought everyone knew, I am sorry." I almost laughed.
Nearest thing I can compare it to locally is when David retired, even then it was more a joyous occasion, celebrating all he has done. Weird.
I kinda wish I had been there the day he signed with the Vikings.

Agreed. Calling him a rude name is just childish.

I can't even think about it. I joke with a friend of mine that we won't ever see TD again until his kids hit junior high and he volunteers to coach their basketball teams. By then he'll have a pot belly and a long shaggy beard.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
The more important the game, the more Brett Favre sucks.
The more important the game, the more Tim Duncan dominates.
The comparisons end there.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
The only reason it would suck is we would have to wait a couple more years until they put the bronze statue at half-court.
That's right. Play around it.

Then we bring Horry back to hip check Nash into it.

Hell, given the state of the center position in the league, he could probably still hack it 10-15 minutes a game.:lol

Instead, the Packers management used Favre. They knew no matter how bad the Packers sucked, they would still sell tickets and be on national TV if they had Favre.
An excellent example of this was two years ago. The Packers could have aquired Randy Moss for a measly 4th round draft pick, as Favre wanted. But no! The Pack held out for only a 5th round pick, so Moss went to New England and scored 34 touchdowns in only two seasons, and topping 1000 yeards both seasons.
The Spurs management would NEVER act like the Packers management, so the question of what Duncan would do is moot.
Great post. When I read the first post of this thread, I was going to say that I don't understand why people think Favre is the bad guy. The real culprit between Favre and the Packers was the Packer's head coach, whatever that meathead's name is, as well as the GM. Favre wanted to come back and they said no - simple enough. The Packers closed the door on Favre, or he never would have ended up with the Jets.
But Galileo makes some good points that I hadn't heard, furthering making the case that Favre isn't the bad guy. Favre was doing them a favor by coming back, but the egos of the head coach and the GM overpowered them and they made a bonehead decision to not allow him to return. Now Favre wil beat them by four touchdowns on their own field.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
I wouldn't like it but if it went down like Favre's situtation I would not blame Tim. Remember, Favre pretty much got pushed out of Green bay. He was not going to get a real opportunity to compete for the starting position, was not ready to be a back up and was not quite ready to retire either.
I don't like how long it takes Favre to decide if he is going to play again each season but I don't blame him one bit for what he has done. I wouldn't blame Tim either if he were in a similar situation.

Great Post.
At least someone here sees the light, and has not been duped by the media.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
If this hypothetical, however unlikely, came to pass I'd probably be a little pissed. I'd still want #21 retired. Hell, I don't think I'd even be able muster a real boo towards the guy who got the Spurs four titles. As long as he's not out raping nuns and firebombing orphanages I'll still probably be a fan.

Re: What would you think if Duncan pulled a Favre?
Hypothetically, if he did it, I would still love him... even if it was the Lakers. As long as he didn't have some resurrected 8-10 years of beast status left in him and carried them to a shitload of championships. I would be fine with 1-2 years to ride it out and try to get one last ring.
especially if the Spurs, after all he's done for the team and city, were trying to force his decision making so they could know what the timetable was gonna be on making Dejuan Blair the cornerstone of the franchise
With that said..... he would never do it.
