To that end, Bonner is not much different than Barry of Finley. I will give Bonner credit in that he's younger and has the heart and desire of a lion. He's not much on athletic skill and will never even be a good defender, but he will hustle. Finley, on the other hand, was once an athletic freak, and could've been a better defender and rebounder in his prime. Now he has just morphed into a one-trick pony, who add nothing if he's not hitting his outside shot.

I agree.
Had this injury happened a week ago, Pop could've possible made a move to resign Anthony Tolliver. Seeing as how Pop is hell-bent on finding the spread-the-floor, shooting big (the next Robert Horry), perhaps this move would've made sense for him again. Of course, the Blazers signed him last week.
Re: McDonald: Matt Bonner cannot be replaced
Come on SenorSpur are you suggesting that Tolliver is > Haislip? :wow

Not at all, it's just I think Pop would probably be more inclined to like and trust him a bit more. After all, Tolliver played earned some meaningful minutes early last season for Pop. Haislip hasn't played.

Thank you for continuing to be so ignorant. It's gotten to the point that it's simply hilarious. You guys just can't let it go. Bonner(and Finley, or whoever is playing mediocre or less during the current week) is the anti-christ to your Spurs fantasy world and it's killing you inside. You've turned into self-hating Spurs freaks having nervous breakdowns in "public". My life is so much more enjoyable knowing that someone like you is having a much worse time than I am. Inconsistent 14-10 seasons are frustrating but at least I know how the game is played.
By all means, please keep canceling your appointments with the psychiatrist and continue writing about Matt Bonner and the Apocalypse.
We're having a great time at your expense.
:lmao:downspin::lmao
Maybe you ought to call yours and ask for an adjustment in medications. You live to enjoy the misery of others? Yes, I think you should make an appointment real soon.

exactly.
Re: McDonald: Matt Bonner cannot be replaced
he is a big security blanket for that player who wants to pass out of the double team. others are going to have to step up their permiter shooting.
Re: McDonald: Matt Bonner cannot be replaced
though Bonner has a valuable skill set, I have to question if it is a necessary skill set for this team. We have gotten away from what made us a near dynasty, defense, and Matt Bonner is a liability in this area.
I don't discredit his heart and I love to see him diving for loose balls and playing hard when in the game, but there are guys like that in the league that get paid a lot less and play better defense.
It's great that he spreads the floor and all, but shouldn't Ginobili, Jefferson, Mason, Finley, Hill, Bogans and Parker be enough threats out of a double team to keep a defense honest?
Let's let him get healthy, get this team to gel over the next month and then ship him out while he has value.

Matt Bonner's defense isn't as much of a liability now that he's playing in the 2nd unit. And he's improved his rebounding at least. But where he excels is the fact that he's the perfect big-man to pair up with Blair in the 2nd unit. The opposing teams' big can't lay off him on the 3pt line and this just opens the entire middle up for Blair to wreak havoc. It's a devastating duo and presents a nightmare for opposing teams.
He's part of what has made that 2nd unit so deadly this year.

Excellent point. As one of the best 3pt shooters in the league it has to draw out the other big.

Isn't this where all that depth that we've been crowing about since Sept is supposed to come into play?
We have some big men on the bench who have to be used.

I don't think everyone shares your opinions on Bonner.

Offensively, yes.
Defensively? Neither man can protect the rim effectively enough for this to be viable for more than short stints.
