while I agree that tanking for the lottery this year doesn't make any sense, there are occasions where "losing the battle but winning the war" have merit.

It took getting destroyed by the Mavericks in the first round for Pop to finally dig up George Hill from his shallow grave and play him. The same Pop who had proclaimed that Hill wouldn't be playing and that the playoffs weren't for him.

It took losses for that to happen. It took injuries to get Stephen Jackson playing time.

There's times for strategic retreats, but this year isn't one of those times as far as missing the playoffs.

PHX was in the lottery, and they don't even play their guy. And that's with a coach who plays young guys like Dragic, Lopez and Dudley. Would a Spurs pick at 14 be any better, provided they hadn't already traded that pick for some 36 year old broken down big man?

Pop would stick a lottery pick in an Iron Mask and lock him in an English dungeon.

Damn I love that pic of Duncan and DRob holding the trophies. You can see the contrast in body types of the two .. both about the same height but Duncan is long, lean, with huge hands and longer arms and DRob is more compact but much more powerfully built. What a pair they made and what a shame they only played together a couple of seasons.
