the meniscus tear was really the setback that prevented him from ever really getting the opportunity to see any real time on the court this season. i certainly hope that he can carry his g-league success over to the summer league, stay healthy and then get a shot at cracking the rotation next season.
Oh yeah I’d take a flier on Thybull too.
So you know, all Spurs fans know our calling card has always been defense
In nearly an entire season of NBA play, gamewise, Huestis hasn't shown the makings of an NBA defender, and he'll be 28 in December. Detroit thought so much of SJ that they salary dumped him at the deadline.
Moore is shooting 38% from 3, and is leading the ASpurs with 9.0 boards a game, at 6'8" 220. He's outboarding the jumping jack drafted from USC last year (Metu), the guy that actually played minutes for the big club (Eubanks), and Brimah, who is 6'10" 230.
Any thoughts why they haven’t called him up, while we’ve seen Metu and Eubanks. Personally Eubanks is not bad, just meh and not the critical position that Spurs need. Because I like Eubanks limiting Aldridge minutes cleaning up. But I would love to have Spurs get that athletic SF that seem to completetge puzzle. Or is it Bertans? Because he’s sure shot and could stay in front, rebound, pass.
No idea. I was speculating elsewhere that maybe they're hiding him, hoping to be at the front of the line to sign him this off season. He shoots well from 3, but he also has the third highest 2P% on the club for guys with appreciable games played (there's a lot of roster churn in the g-league). His 2G% is .569, and only Brimah (.625) and Eubanks (.649) are better inside the arc. He played for Larry Brown at SMU, so you don't have to project his defense.
What ever happened to Hillard? I remember last season he got a little bit of run with the big team. I was looking at his and White stats on the Austin Spurs last season and they played great.
Ben Moore has solid stats but to say he can shoot from 3 and he doesnt even shoot more than two attempts per game is kind of being disingenuous. I read an article with Larry Brown praising the young man so I hope he continues to get better and maybe get a look from our team this year or during the off season
My only concern with Walker is I hope he can become an efficient off ball scorer. It seems like he’s a good go to guy in the g league anyways, but his usage looks pretty high there
With Spurs being eliminated from the playoffs and tonight's game is the last of the regular season, it will be interesting to see what big team does with Metu/LWIV and two-way players.
Metu and Walker will spend the rest of the season and post season with the big club. They’re on the 15 man roster, after all. I’m not sure about the two ways, and what happens to them after the g-league season. I know they can’t be active or play in the post season.
I just came in here to ask the G-League watchers about Amida Brimah. Howś that bloke?
I liked what he could have been, a better and younger Dedmon..
and that means what (not that it's true, because this is undefined until he really has minutes to play)? the Spurs roster has some players in the same situation, the difference is that this kid is really a project at this time, and if there is any chance of him polishing his game, it sure is worth a test (not that it matters, he's going to have a whole season with significant minutes in memphis, then people will know if he can play). The most that could happen, it would be Bruno not having any impact in the team (like Quincy this season, that is, a risk-free situation)
Did I see Moore in street clothes at the bench last night? Does it mean we might start seeing him play? I’m happy for that. I mean I rather see him and Lonnie than Dante/QPon out there.
He can’t play but since he is on G League two way contract and season is over he and Eubanks will be with team supporting them.
Calm down Hexstatic,i have no problem with your knowledge of Austin Spurs. You obviously watch them and know them more than i do.
Hence when we had a disagreement about Lonnie i didn't dispute your opinion of his potential.I have only watched him on the main team and i didn't like him there. You said he has raw talent and a high ceiling and i'm waiting to see just that in the coming years.
My issue is you underselling other players that you have not watched just by looking at their stats.I don't do that and i don't like it when other people do that.Hell if you had said "Black athletic guy who dunks,Pop doesn't like him",i'd have said "Fair enough" and moved along.
In my book that's not judging with equal standards. So i called you out on it.
If you have a problem with that,my opinion doesn't have to mean jackshit to you.Just move along.
In the end,in case you didn't get it already,my issue was how you judge talent, not the talent itself. The last dude i can be accused of being a fanboy about is Tim Duncan and that was a long time ago.
Umm what’s Elite Camp?
It's a g-league thing.

Following the draft, the team traded the player rights to Reese and a 2020 second round pick in exchange for the player rights to Kavion Pippen from the Santa Cruz Warriors.
SAN ANTONIO (October 30, 2019) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have assigned forward Luka Samanic and guard/forward Keldon Johnson to the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League....

Going to have to catch a couple of these games.
Hopefully, since the PG play should be improved this year, these guys will make big strides.
So, Austin will have Keldon Johnson and Kaleb Johnson. That won't be confusing at all.
Spurs currently up 92-81

I watched most of the game. Keldon is a beast driving to the hoop. I wont be sad if Lonnie doesnt make it in our roster. Keldon could be that guy instead. Samanic had nice passes and looks like hes getting stronger. Lyles is definitely a placeholder for Samanic. They have the same skillset, while Samanic being more explosive and flashy.
Apparently DJ, Mills, and Derozan were there at the game. Austin is about an hour from SA. I think thats great leadership from these guys.
I was hoping Keldon would show some 3P production that might get him a few games in SA. It wasn't there tonight, for him or Samanic. But what the hell is Daulton Hommes doing jacking up 8 threes in 17 minutes?
Spoon's numbers look pretty decent. How did he look at the point?
I was impressed with the rookies :flag:
Here are the condensed game highlights from today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXILO08DTqo
Was at the game. It was nice. Murray, DeRozan and Mills were there. It looks like the coaching staff really likes Johnson, because they kept pulling him aside to talk to him. It wasn't a situation where he was messing up, as the box score shows. It was more like they were depending on him quarterbacking the team while he was out there. I'm not sure if he'll play this season in SA, but he will do so soon. He's going to be too good for the d-league very soon.
Also, the refs sucked.
Here are some highlights for those of us that were not able to watch the game :)

Happy to see he did well
What will be really bizarre is if that Toronto 1st ends up becoming the best part of the load management trade
Johnson might end up being better than Samanic tbh.
I said it before, and ill say it again. Keldon's measurables, body movement reminds me a LOT of Harden. He keeps his arms up when driving exactly like Harden. This dude will be a foul collector in the NBA. Once he learns to shoot and do step back 3s--watch out.
Does he have outside range?
Spurs playing again tonight.
https://gleague.nba.com/games/20191109/AUSRGV/
Keldon CANNOT be stopped at the rim. He also shines in clutch moments. They gave him the ball like he was a star and he came through. I havent felt confident in a rookie since Kawhi. Lonnie certainly didnt display this much fight as a rookie. BIG BODY isnt soft at all. And he plays within the offense, not being a black hole who just chucks shit up like Lonnie. Keldon is moving up the ranks for me. Lonnie just seems like another Jonathan Simmons with his lack of IQ.
Watched only highlights from these two games but I'm very impressed and surprised by what I've seen from Keldon. When drafted he seemed more of a stay in the corner on offense and defend kind of guy with limited upside but a solid energy role player floor (say a PJ Tucker). They clearly see more in him, letting him run the offense and drive relentlessly. His finishing and ball handling look way better than advertised. If his jump shot improves, especially off the dribble 3, he'll shatter his upside expectations.
your speed change is encouraging
How’s Luka looked?
Was at the game last night, here are some of my thoughts watching it live.
Luka has some nice passes. He’s also really skinny compared to Eubanks. Made a nice three that he launched without hesitation. He missed another that he had more time on. I also liked his footwork on defense. He’s very athletic. The main thing is he needs more bulk.
Keldon was the best player for Austin. He could go get a bucket when needed. He had several times where he took it to the hoop strong and finished with contact. Had a couple boneheaded turnovers. Otherwise, you could tell a definite difference when he was on the court.
witherspoon didn’t play.
Still needs to put on weight. In the game I watched, he also didn't really seem to be engaged defensively. He had some really nice offensive plays around the rim though. He seemed comfortable bringing the ball up after a rebound too. Like in comparison to Metu, Luka showed much better handles and poise with the ball. I don't necessarily think he's going to be a wing, but he'll probably be fine attacking closeouts as an NBA four. It was also nice that he didn't try to do too much right away. I mean, I would have loved to seen him just dominate, but in comparison to Metu (I wasn't impressed with Chim most of the night if that wasn't obvious), he played under control and tried to fit into the offense.

Keldon Johnson should get NBA minutes if he keeps playing like this
How is this team more interesting than the mothership team?
My only hope for the young guys is that by the time they get real NBA minutes, they'll be coached by somebody else.
The thing is, he looked like dog shit in the preseason, primarily against players also auditioning for an NBA spot. He's not ready.
It's a BAD sign if you are a first rounder, and not tearing up the g-league, but the opposite doesn't make you an NBA player, just a better prospect.
Kids these days come into the league with very few tools other than athleticism, and perhaps a jump shot. They don't have a rocker step move, they don't understand about the triple threat position and how to rip through using the defender's momentum against them, they don't know how to initiate or absorb contact and finish. As a result, they get very few open looks at the NBA level, never get to the FT line, lose confidence, and fail. It happens over and over and over, usually to about half of every draft class, including lottery picks. The Spurs have found a different way, and their cadre of successful NBA players drafted in the late 20s speaks to it's effectiveness.
I said if he keeps playing like this. If he puts up 20+ in every game Pop should get him some minutes, he can't be worse than Belinelli and the kid plays defense. It will take a while for him to get there, but not even Walker was putting up those stats on a nightly basis
I rather see Keldon getting minutes than Beli tbh
Get rid of Demar an Marco for Mo Bamba an play Lonnie Walker an Keldon Johnson. Start the freaking youth movement already. good god it cant be that hard. We're already losing so hell, what's the worse that could happen!?! Fuck fire Pop an let Beckey coach. The Big 3 era is over, Pop's should be too.
Spurs play the Warriors tonight at 7:30.

Not sure if KJ can get those shots off in the big leagues. Wonder how his non layup percentage is?
He was 5/17 and 0/3, and the Spurs got blown out. Next game.
They ... kinda did.

Edit: But, yeah, for box score clarity, they should show 2-for-2 at the line even if only one is attempted. Otherwise it's pretty weird.
