Wow, thanks for clearing that up. We moved down south, and I haven't been to a single game in Austin this season. I had no idea.
So I guess they're trying to speed the game up with that? It's REALLY going to punish the poor FT shooters.I know the points should even out over time, but it puts a lot more pressure on that one FT. I think the bad FT shooters are going to shoot an even lower percentage. And it won't matter if the points even out next game, if a couple of empty possessions costs you tonight's game.It will also give teams that much more reason to intentionally foul guys like Drummond or Dwight Howard, and an opponent could pretty much force one of those guys off the floor - at least until the last two minutes.
Now I'm interested to see how this shakes out.
Keldon Johnson and Metu assigned to Austin for game today.
Spurs get the win.

So Keldon goes scoreless from beyond the arc once again. He still hasn't made a three pointer all year in G-League. His free throw percentage was ok in college so he has it in him to be a decent three point shooter in the NBA but he hasn't shown he can hit one yet in G-League. Pop sure as hell isn't gonna give him playing time if he can't space the floor.
the funny thing is the Austin Spurs are also one of the teams with the least 3-point attempts in the entire G-League. Popovich's antiquated system has spread all over this organization:lmao
I was at the game yesterday. Metu looked like a man among boys out there. Keldon wasn’t too bad either. I was surprised how the SA players weren’t the focus of the offense. Ledbetter and Farrel were letting it fly. Scottie Pippen’s nephew(?) looked pretty strong too and looks just like Scottie with a similar game. Austin took 29 3point attempts. So RC’s post above is extra dumb. Fun game. We’re going to attend regularly, so I hope to meet some of y’all.
Austin Spurs are 18th in the G-League at 3-point attempts and have played 1 or 2 more games than any team that's behind them which means they are actually ranked a lot lower. Last year they were 26th out of 27 teams dumbo. But keep sniffing. Sniff sniff. Here are some sources before you ask me where I got that info from

I congratulate you on your investigative skills. I should have expanded on my insult to make the point that why the fuck would you shoot threes when your roster doesn’t have many (any?) reliable 3 point shooters. Want DDR hucking airballs or Lonnie hitting the side of the backboard rather than the Spurs settling for the shots that the roster dictates. You act as if Pop has never heard of a 3 pointer before or that our last championship never happened. But you need to bitch about Pop, so go ahead with your bad takes.
Ouch I felt that :reading
Watching this game instead of the Spurs game since league pass isnt covering that game lmao
Luka Samanic is dominating offensively. 21 pts in 19 mins. Killing it from inside and outside. Wide range offensive repertoire. Defensively not bad either

Luka with an array of offense and looking smooth:
Luka has been looking good, hopefully he’s working hard in the weight room. He showed a bunch of different moves last night with out hesitation too. Really optimistic that this years Spurs draft class pans out.

Keldon misses all his three point attempts once again. He has yet to make one this season, shooting 0% at 2 attempts a game. Looking more and more like we drafted the shooting guard version of Kyle Anderson.
He's shot a grand total of 10 3-pointers so far. So, yeah, he's 0-10. Marco started this season 1-11.
Is he a SG or a SF?
The point is, his career isn't over after 10 missed 3-pointers in the G-League. You would have got that if your dial wasn't set on Extra-Jackass.
Beli gets paid almost $6M, and his only reason to exist is 3-pointers (sure as shit isn't anything else). He went through a dry stretch almost identical to KJ's to start the season. I think Keldon went 3-4 from 3P in his first SL game, and I don't think he's hit one since. For all I know, they're doctoring his stroke to make it better, but it's causing some disruption short term.
I'm just not quite ready to start calling an end to his 3P shooting career on the basis of 10 shots.
People who want to give up on first round picks there first year are just plain fucking idiots

It really is more fun watching the Austin Spurs rather than our main cast, holy shit. Luka's shooting stroke is great for a player his size, and Keldon is a bucket getter at this level. Would love to see some more shooting from him further in the season though.
Keldon goes 0-3 on three pointers. Still sitting at 0% on the season from three point range. For someone hyped as a 3&D prospect, he sure seems to struggle with the three pointer part. His free throw percentage is good so he has the potential to be a decent three point shooter.
Thanks ace for posting the highlights! :tu
Luka Samanic has some really nice handles for a big guy, nothing too flashy as most of his moves are behind the back straight line drives and spin moves, I’d like to see him work out of the p/r and if he can play at different speeds with the ball in his hands
Damn Luka got some nice spin moves really liking this draft pick.

A bad shooting night. A couple guys shot ok, but everybody else was lousy. Turkey hangover?
Ehhh from what I’ve seen, Keldon isn’t getting the best 3 point opportunities, needs to be set up better on 3s by teammates
Yeah terrible shooting night. 14 rebs for Luka looks promising
Spurs will still have the same problems next year as they have this year...too many guards(Weatherspoon, Keldon Johnson), not enough 3pt shooting.
That's my point, new guards and less 3pt shooting. Forbes, and Bellinelli both gone but replaced with inconsistent but young shooting guards with questionable 3pt shots. Not a winning plan if you are struggling with the 3pt shot already. Your looking at Trey Lyles and Derrick White to shoot the three-yikes!
Trey has looked like a reliable 3 pt shooter who had a cold start to the season. He has a nice stroke.
I always believed White was a good shooter who just lacked confidence. His college numbers agree with this. He has been shooting more 3s these last few games.
Lonnie Walker also has a decent three pointer.

Keldon finally hit a 3 tonight.
Tonight's game will air on FSSW in the middle of the night (2:30-4:30 am SA Time).
Thanks, Ace. I was going to post, but you're always there with the goods. It's good that Keldon finally got the lid off from the 3P line. Even without the 3's, he's been putting up points. He had 23 tonight, but the 7 TO's won't get him time in SA.
Metu is starting to really intrigue me. I thought he looked pretty bad in the limited minutes we saw him. But he's been looking pretty good lately. Tonight he had 25 and 12, 3 steals and a block - and no TO's. He's not a 3P shooter, but his 2P% has gotten a LOT better. I hope that means he's seriously improving. It's tempting to say that it's the G-League, but all the other G-League players are playing against G-League opponents.
Metu doesnt look bad at all and damn luka can run that floor and dish
I think Metu will be our eventual Gay replacement. His style has evolved over these past few years and you could see hints of Rudy Gays post up game in there. Gay must have spent a lot of time with Metu.
All 4 of our guys look like they have a chance to crack the rotation next year. That's very promising
Luka is looking good.
Fluid with his playmaking.
Metu looks like a completely different player than last season... Nice mid-range jumper, finishes around the rim, and most impressively he's not afraid to dunk the ball in different situations much unlike Poeltl, who seems to have skipped that part of the Big Man Seminar. Very interesting prospect to watch develop. Luka also looks good... I hope the coaches get him shooting 3's at a high rate soon, same as Keldon. We know they can physically overpower G-League opponents, but without a reliable shot they're not getting much playing time in SA.
Metu has a very broad skillset, it's all about which parts of it can translate to the NBA. It also seems like they have Keldon handling the ball a lot, so he becomes a better playmaker and knows how to score coming off screens.
Spurs got the win tonight.

Saw the game in Frisco in person against the Legends on Wed. All the Spurs draft picks from the last 2 years had good moments. Metu looked very good on both sides of the floor. He showed range with his shot, speed up and down the floor getting ahead of the defense with alley opp dunks and even pretty good defense/defensive rebounding.
Samanic and Johnson both had very good moments showing their skill sets.
Luka got a little dinged on the knee which limited him for awhile in the game, but his mobility and shooting stroke look good. He is still growing into his body and needs another 10-15 pounds of muscle to power through opposing players. His ability to get up and down the floor is impressive - especially with the ball in his hand.
Keldon is a very physical ball player with no fear going hard to the rim. The draft picks will get a bunch of experience this year in Austin and hopefully move up to the big club full time next year.
Who knows, if the season goes south record wise in the next couple of months maybe SA will be a possibility in March and April for the Austin players. I don't think the FO will keep them off the floor in SA if the Spurs are lottery bound late this season.
Keldon with that Derrick White speed, lol. He’s looking good though.
Most excited about Luka though. How’d he do?
Do Luka and Metu Play roughly the same position? or do they play different positions. From what I can see it looks like both are more modern day PF but is one of the better at SF or C or would they both be more pf/SF combos?
Do you think they could play together at the Pro level against most teams or would it take more teams without a big for them to play together?
on a side note Dejounte is my favorite player right now and I think Pop is hurting his skills but making him defer to much

Matt Bonner and Derrick White work well off of each other on commentary.
Pretty cool, they had Derrick white doing commentary for a while. He wasn’t half bad.
For those who go regularly, are tickets to those games pretty reasonable? Might have to hit one up while I’m in for holidays.
KJ finally made a 3 and now I think he has made some in each of the last 3 games.
Looking at stats Metu seems to be doing very well down there. I will be glad when he gets some actual run up in the big league.
Another 25 from KJ tonight. Love the energy and emotion he plays with.
Metu looks way more confident and comfortable than I've seen in the past. Hopefully that continues.
Can't be drawing too much conclusions from G-League games, but Metu looks like an interestingly athletic player. We definitely need someone on the team who can finish at the rim like he does, dude goes for the dunk a lot. I like his energy, he should get the call up and show what he's made of in non-garbage minutes
The thing is, I wouldnt play Metu over Lyles and I wouldnt play Metu over Eubanks to play C since Metu will get pushed around like he always does. Metu has no chance of getting minutes unless Aldridge gets traded or he suddenly gets agile enough to play SF.
I’m liking what I’ve seen so far this season from Metu even when he played with the Spurs granted it was garbage time he showed some flashes.
